Default Stop Facebook Status Update in "People"?

Anyone know of any way to prevent status updates in "People"? I just don't like seeing the green flashing balls next to everyones name.

Other than unlinking them of course.. I like to have their display pictures.

Update: I think I solved it, untested so far.

I went to the "updaves and events" tab and then menu > data settings > disable notification updates.

Before, i was just pressing menu in the "all" tab.
