Default Calls going direct to voicemail

I'm finding it extremelly annoying that some calls are going straight to voicemail. When I'm at work I have a full strength signal, the phone sits on my desk all day but for some unknown reason, some calls go straight to voicemail

Yes I agree, this is the single most annoying thing I find with my Hero. I sometimes get envious when I look at classic Nokia phones and think, 'I bet those Nokias receive all calls made to them'. I used to think the problem existed with my phone network (Orange) but other phones don't have this problem and I tried my Hero in another country and I had the same problem (half of the calls made to me go directly to voicemail). I used to think I just wasn't that popular but it turns out my phone just sent calls directly to voicemail, urrrhh.

I've contacted HTC about this they told me a few things to try, I've tried them all but the problem still exists. I wory that if I send the phone in to them, i'll get a replacement that'll be worse than my current one.

Which build are you guys using? I've never had this issue on stock 2.73 or MoDaCo ROM.

Mine does it on Orange too, occasionally it just beams straight to Voicemail, regardless of signal strength, Im hoping 2.1 will resolve any radio issues.

So yeah I've factory reseted the phone, I've used 2G only for over a month now, tried using the least amount of apps at all times and some calls are still being directed straight to voicemail. What is there left to try?

I get the same issue and so does my colleague, both using Hero's on Orange... If theres an easy fix by calling business support then I'm up for it!

So, are you serious mate?

thanks...

Very serious.

I kept getting calls going to voicemail after a few rings. I tried to disable voicemail in settings but kept getting error messages. so I phoned Orange and was told it has to be disabled by them.
Which he did in a matter of seconds.
I went to settings on my phone and all voicemail was disabled.

Ahh, so the problem you were having was calls diverting to voicemail to quickly rather than them being sent directly to voicemail (without ringing) when you have service...

If thats the case, then a couple of links posted earlier in the thread are what you needed to solve the issue - increase the time before diverting to voicemail to the max which is 30 seconds...

The problem we are referring to is calls going to voicemail without ringing even though you have good service... This is noticeable as the phone is sitting on your desk with a full signal, no phone call, then suddenly a text message saying you have a missed call from someone but they didnt leave a message...

I initially thought it was due to the fact that I only get 2G in the office so it would divert while using GPRS for ActiveSync, but it happens while on 3G and HSDPA...

Getting a Desire so hoping that doesnt have the same issue...

Jaffa, hows the issue now you are running a custom 2.1 ROM?

Just thinking about handing my phone to the new starter with a custom ROM if its better?!

I know you'v probably checked this but I did it when I got my phone so worth checking...there's an option in the stock phonebook you can tick which says send directly to voicemail, and I'd grazed over it a few times and activated it for some people.....if it's only certain people then it might be worth checking that it hasn't activated itself due to a glitch or something?

Hi,

I've just got a HTC desire and I'm having the same problem but so far only seems to be when the phone is on charge calls go direct to voicemail - a little annoying when the phone needs charging regularly.

I recently did a factory reset on my Hero and it has started to send calls directly to voicemail. It's on O2. Getting really annoying as it's my personal and business phone so it will begin to p1ss people off in no time :-(

same!

I did an unscientific test and roughly 3/4 of my calls go straight to voice mail :|||
which is horrible seeing as historic bricks from 2000 were able to at least RECEIVE CALLS.
and all the iphone guys have started acting smug too

I too have Orange UK and was finding my calls got sent to answerphone before I had a chance to answer. Phoned up Orange support and the guy there told me how to change the time before the answerphone cuts in.

You dial **61*07973100123*11*??# on your phone dialer and then hit the call button. Then hit the OK button on the message that comes up a few seconds later.

The ?? represents the time in seconds you want to set before the answerphone kicks in. There is no point in setting anything longer that 20 seconds, because that is the maximimum - I have tried it with 30 and 40 and with both the answerphone kicks in after 20 seconds.

Be careful when dialing the first two "*", if you press too quickly you end up with a "p", so leave a couple of seconds between them. AFAIK this tip only works on Orange UK.

This is a specific problem where the phone doesnt even ring before going to voicemail. From what i've seen in other threads this solution is for when the phone rings, but goes to voicemail to quickly.

Thanks anwyay

Well I'm not having quite as many calls going to voicemail since I got a 3G SIM but I am having problems with txt messages not coming through for hours! and occasional problems sending.

O2 suggested I clean the SIM card as dust can cause problems, unbelievable as this is a new sim in a new phone whereas my old sim in my old phone was in a right state but still received txt and messages.

Don't get me wrong I love my HTC but if its struggling with basic phone tech well I can't se me keeping it for much longer than a year.

I am having this problem too.
I am O2 & it seems that when the phone is using 'g' it just put my calls to voicemail.
I have downloaded an app call "quick settings" that stops internet connection that I use while at work as I am only in a 'g' area but I am not really happy about this. I want my phone to be able to sync whenever it wants.
Surely there is a fix somewhere so my phone can receive call while on the internet or at least interrupt the internet so I can receive a call.
Please help.

I have had the same issue for as long as I have owned the phone (2 yrs now). I am on Orange.

Here is my theory, after runinng many tests & speaking to the slightly ******ed helpdesk support at Orange.

There seems to be a major flaw here. With many phone networks (all apart from Vodafone in the UK) data is given priority over voice. Therefore, if you have any apps or widgets open at the same time as someone is attemptinig to call you, and the app is sending or receiving data, then voice calls will go to voicemail. There is nothing that can be done about this according to Orange.

I have had many phone calls with orage regarding this, and all this does is annoyy me further.

Not sure why that the Hero seems to be more susceptible to this issue, but it does.

Go to the contacts/ People section in your phone. Select the name(s) of the person who can't call you and instead has their calls it automatically go to voice-mail.

Once their contact details comes up, under Information Section-> click on the Send To Voicemail Option-> change it to off.

You may have accidentally turned on the option to send all calls from one person or all your contacts to voicemail.

Once this is changed back to normal, it doesn't automatically go to voicemail, instead, it rings and goes to voicemail only if you are not available to answer the call.

(this is based on HTC phone format)

Hi Solver,

It's 2 years since I originally started this thread and what I've ended up doing for those 2 years is basically turning internet off when I don't need it and also leaving phone on 2G unless internet required. I do this as 3G not good at work and I sometimes end up with no mobile signal on 3G!

This works fine for me and saves battery, I get all my calls (so it was never anything to do with settings against a certain person) and as I don't use internet that often don't mind a quick swap to 3G and turn on internet when needed. Have to say I don't seem to miss calls anymore when I have got 3G and internet on but as I don't have it on all the time can't say for certain.
