com.htc.provider force quit in peep, but only on wifi
i have had a problem with peep in the last day that only occurs when im on wifi... this is manifested when i update peep which provokes the message "the process com.htc.provider has stopped unexpectedly. please try again" and the need to force quit the process. is there anyway to fix this? should i uninstall peep and reinstall it? does anyone have a copy of peep?
Try clearing the Peep cache in "Manage Applications". Twitter reset the maximum status ID yesterday and it can cause probs with some clients. A simple cache clear is reported to work with Peep.

i had cleared that cache from the settings in peep already, so instead i went to manage apps and deleted all stored data and it worked perfectly
thank you very much...
what did twitter change yesterday, what is maximum status ID?
it has now gone back to acting up, is it possible that this twitter update is messing up the HTC server and that they need to fix it before it will start t work on peep?
Mine too, same issue here, must be something changed at their end. I'm also unlucky enough to also have the Vodfone issue, tried fixing it once but to no avail. Wonder if HTC will update Peep to sort the issue out?
i updated my ROM to the latest official HTC orange 2.whatever last night and then started to get this problem. my girlfriend is on the original ROM and her peep is working fine!
I have the same problem here in the Netherlands. Updated my Hero with the official firmware release last week and since a day or two Peep won't retrieve new tweets.. Instead it loads a while and I get the "has stopped unexpectedly"-message. I like the way Peep works, so I haven't yet felt the need to try any other mobile Twitter-app.. Hope there will be a solution soon..
im hoping it gets fixed, it's a bit annoying. trying twidroid at the moment, but rather peep because it has a widget instead of a program shortcut.not the end of the world but was better when it worked!
Damn, could it be that we are actually victims of the second Twitpocalypse? (As noted in Slug's link.) That's kinda sad in a way.. :P Explanation here.
its getting a little worse, its happened three times now that my phone has reset the home screen after the error message when trying to sync new tweets. by reset the home screen i mean it clears everything and has the loading screen until it reloads all of the widgets and shortcuts, just like when you boot the phone. anyone else getting this as well?
Yup, I got the same problem after trying it a couple of times. I think I'm gonna wait this one out and leave Peep alone for now, hoping it'll be fixed soon. There are enough alternatives, but still..
Hmmmm mine still has the same problem. I cleared cache and settings but it still gives me the Force Quit error :/ and no Tweet from HTC about solving the issue yet.
Still the same for me too, I cleared cache yesterday, appeared to fix the problem, but as soon as I get over 100 tweets or so I start getting the force close error again. Interestingly enough it only happens when I'm on mobile net, WiFi is fine.
yes my exultation was premature... it worked yesterday but today its back to force quits...
have people been experiencing two force quit messages? the original one i posted, and for the first time i have experienced this one below... have people had this one all along or is it new? if new this might suggest that HTC have done some changes, or that the twitpocalypse is getting worse.
"the application peep (process com.htc.twitter) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
I got this back from HTC today from Mike in the NA Team:
"This issue is currently under investogation with Taiwan, and we hope to have an update soon.
Best Regards
Mike"
thanks for that, and thank mike for the information... also can you please ask mike, if indeed you can contact him again, to tell us when the problem is resolved if we need to update or change any settings?
Still a problem for me.
Is anyone else tickled by the irony of HTC using Twitter to keep people updated about fixes to their Twitter client, or is it just me?
Try clearing cache and retrying if you haven't done it, because it does seem to be fine on my Hero now.... (touch wood, cross fingers, lucky rabbit foot, 4 leaf clover, etc).

LOL yes
after posting the twitter message i lol'd a little, until i got the force quit error message and had a full homepage restart, at which point i lol'd no more

last time i cleared the cache it worked for about 2 or 3 refreshes, until it filled up with tweets and crashed again as is custom these day
I have a Hero here in Australia (it is unbranded but I am using it with Vodafone here) and it is mostly working very well. I am experiencing a couple of frustrating problems I have also seen mentioned elsewhere.
1) Quite frequently (several times a day) I get: "sorry the process com.htc.provider has stopped unexpectedly". I sometimes get this even when wifi is off. Is Peep the cause of all those? Can I uninstall/disable it if I use Fandroid? Sometimes I notice the weather has stopped updating, but not too worried about that.
2) The Market Place does not show many of the Apps from developers. Often I can see the free version but then can't buy the full version. Sometimes nothing can be found even after I contact the developers and they tell me what to search for.
I don't now how to update the ROM/firmware, so I am still using the official ROM that came with it, version 2.73.707.9
I never had an animated flip-clock so I guess this is relatively up to date.

It can be. Peep on my handset wasn't affected by the so called "Twitpocalypse" bug but many other users report problems similar to yours.

You can try.... log-in to Twitter via Settings - Social networking, open Peep, set the update interval to 'manual', then log-out. Bloomin' thing will still start of its own accord but at least won't do anything. Only way to uninstall Peep is to delete the app with root access.

"Priced applications" are not available to users in Australia yet, I'm afraid. See here for confirmation.

Still having problems with Peep! Anyone heard anthing further as to when this might be resolved? Have tried other client apps, but nothing offers a similar widget, which i find extremely useful.
Have tried iTweet and Swift and both are pretty poor in my opinion.
I am having the same problem. I have stopped the Peep process using some app manager and hopefully that'll stop the error message till HTC release an update. In the mean time I am using Twidroid.
i have to say that some odd things are happening, the hero often tells me there are new tweets and indeed there are, but any attempt at manual refresh causes the force quit... so i have my peep somewhat up to date but it is only able to update seldomly.
