Finally what looks to be a decent ATT android device
After what feels like ages of being stuck with AT&T and a horrible lineup of smartphones unless you wanted an iPhone, it looks like we will have a decent or possibly great handset.
Hell I'll be happy even if it's just a 3G device so long as it doesnt compare to the Moto Backfail and Samsung Craptivate.
Can't wait for CES and to learn more about the specs and launch date!
If this is basically the Desire HD with upgraded specs and a front facing camera it's a day one purchase for me.
We already know it has a 4-4.3 inch screen based on the picture, as well as 4G (probably 3.5G but that's fine). Hopefully it's running the NEW version of sense.
Device(s): Samsung Galaxy S II i777 iPhone 4S (backup)

I am so psyched about this, FINALLY a decent HTC Android Device. The Aria is nice, but was way too small for my big fingers. This and the Moto Atrix is what I am debating on.
I have always been waiting for a HTC Android phone that was decent for AT&T but, knowing it is not a dual-core phone, it looks like I won't be getting this.
Seems like a cool phone but it doesn't appear to be anything that doesn't already exist. The fact that it's finally on ATT though might save it. I'll take a look when it comes out.
So HTC is saying that the inspire will be the first handset to market in the US with the new sense UI. Being as the EVO shift has it and its being released on Jan 9th does this lead us to believe the inspire arrives before then?
Disappointing on the hardware front. Previous gen CPU, paltry battery, same old screen. Upshot is enhanced sense on a 4.3 screen, but the atrix really blows it away.

Yes it does but I will tell you for the average person I bet this phone will outsell the atrix

I don't know. I see a lot more droid x's than I do htc incredibles around. A lot of it will depend on how the carrier representatives market the phones to non tech savvy customers.

Yes but the Droid x wins because of two things size and mifi Hotspots. The HTC is gonna be favorably compared to the EVO and it has a bigger screen and nicer look than the atrix

I don't think most consumers will notice the .3" difference. I do think they'll notice HTC's superior aesthetics and the attractiveness of the sense skin, however.
That's why I say it depends on how they market it. If the representatives keep going on about how the atrix is so much faster and will last longer on a single charge, your average Joe may be swayed.

Yes possibly but I will tell you this the evo when placed next to my four inch Nexus S looks much bigger so perception is a big chuck of the sale
The Atrix is a better phone than the Inspire. However, the Inspire is already out. The Atrix is, AT LEAST, 6-8 months away from being released.
Let's just read the press release...
Quote:
Motorola ATRIX 4G will be available to AT&T customers in Q1 2011. For more ATRIX 4G information visit: www.motorola.com/atrix and www.att.com/ATRIX4G. Motorola ATRIX 4G will be available exclusively in the U.S. for AT&T customers.
To and extent. Q1 2011 (for AT&T) ends in April so three months away. It could very well be before that but for use of factual evidence to disprove the 6-8 month statement, this is the best out there. You could consider the Bell claim saying some sort of January release. Lastly, Verizon has a press conference for Tuesday for what is most likely going to be the Verizon iPhone. That may not be available for a couple months but this will make AT&T more eager to make these phones available (and hopefully push up my upgrade by a month).

The only thing I will disagree with is the Verizon iPhone claim on Tuesday there's no way Steve jobs is allowing Verizon to host that event it would be an apple event so Tuesday is not for iPhone

Well, what else would it be? They just announced a plethora of devices at CES. It is not a quarterly earnings report. What else would warrant this? Apparently Jobs may make an appearance. Check out the story below.
I don't know it's so out of charector for apple but we will see I guess
Yes, definitely out of the norm but you must consider, did Apple have a big press conference for all the other carriers launched throughout the world? No, they didn't. Granted, this is a much bigger deal but it is still somewhat relative.

Yes relatively I agree but this is huge. Another question will this be LTE or is it gonna be a ginped iPhone with no simultaneous voice and data
So then your gonna have a what original iPhone? Basically working on no simultaneous data and voice? Can you see apple allowing that? I can't
On the other hand, Apple could have a large group of aggravated customers who bought this expecting 4G when, it turns out, they will not get 4G for a year and a half. It just seems like that could end in the terms of another attenagate fiasco.

I seriously doubt the mass exodus that people are touting about. I think it will just be an even playing field.
Listen I believe many many people choose AT&T for the international ability and the simultaneous voice and data. I don't believe in the mass exodus theory either

Most people do not even know Verizon can't do this or that AT&T can. Smartphones have moved away from just being for business users and now are for everyone. This brings in the ignorance of the consumers who purchase a phone "because it looks cool". The Verizon iPhone may very well be overhyped and will lead to many disappointed consumers.

Yes but the average person does not. People on forums like this either know more about tech than the average person or are here for some sort of issue. That's why when people are looking for phone suggestions and they see a bunch of people complaining of issues, it is sort of skewed because people that do not have problems do no make posts. This sort of thing will show exactly how the average consumer does not know how to work their phone.
The HTC Inspire 4G was released as the first phone to run on AT&T's 4G HSPA+ network. The device features a large, 4.3-inch display, 8MP camera capable of 720p HD video capture, and a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. The name of the game here is ... Read More
