Makes sense doesn't it? However, if I keep waiting for AT&T vague time frame deadlines for LTE to come true, I'll grow old. HSPA+ isn't even properly rolled out. I don't mind AT&T speeds on HSPA7.2mbps devices. It's fairly good and in NYC tends to be very good, but they are just not game changers or not even a competitor in the 4G market.
If they weren't throwing out false claims about their 4G I would have absolutely no problem with AT&T. But their recent CES keynote was 1.5hrs of thin air nonsense without a single solid announcement I'm fed up with them.
Marketing...
Ha ha ha. Honestly i have seen the SAME behavior from every major player in the tech industry at one time or another. Just randomly pick someone. Apple? Intel? IBM? ..doesnt matter who you pick, they have all done the vaporware marketing trick. 90% of the time.....they come through with the promises (although it almost ruins the company when they don't). Honestly i dont see a company like AT&T dropping the ball with something like HSPA+ and LTE. Delays and excuses..maybe, but not a total fumble. I would be VERY shocked to see that.
I think the points/arguments on both sides of that little debate were adequately represented..
Hey man, I'm an AT&T longtime customer myself. I'm just irritated that nothing gets precisely announced and done on their network. While every other network has 4G user experience in place. Some of them like T-mo and Sprint have much much less money. Something is fishy that's all I'm saying.

I think when the dust settles AT&T will have the best 4G network because the LTE will be able to drop back to hspa+ not like others that go from LTE/Wimax and drop back to 3G speeds.

Sounds phenomenal in theory, very appealing.. I've been hearing that from AT&T for the past 3 months.
And do you or anyone from AT&T happen to know when will their have their LTE/HSPA+ network deployed? end of 2013? Cause Verizon already has it's LTE in 38 cities and 60 airports. It's kind of degrading to talk about this anymore...
Exactly, there is never a launch date with AT&T concerning their network.
The important thing is that they already sell HSPA+ devices with speeds throttled to what iPhone 3G from 2009 used to be able to achieve.

If I wasn't AT&T customer, I wouldn't know the tricks they use. Why don't I leave, because I'm still under the contract.
I will open another line and just get a thunderbolt to mess with it. Who knows, it may worth shelling out a few hundred $$$ for termination fee.
One of the main reasons I've been with AT&T is global roaming.

yea the non GSM/sim issue has always kept me here going to italy as much as I do. I have been happy with AT&T there customer service has always been good to me and I get service wherever I go in the US so for the little things like this i just have patience. good things come to those who wait
Honestly if I get just as fast or almost just as fast of speeds as Verizon's 'new technology' LTE network than f it. I dont care if it is 3G on steroids, doesnt matter to me one bit.
AT&T's customer service is amazing and I have no issues what so ever with the company. They've got an amazing long term strategy in place that will truly be the most reliable network in America once it is fully up and running. I know that might be 2012-13 but thats ok, I can deal with HSPA+ backhaul till then cause once it goes LTE with HSPA+ to back it up it will definitely be the most reliable. I like what their doing personally and like I said im happy with the speed of the network now, nevermind when they 'flip the switch' for backhauled true HSPA+ in my area. Im sure LTE is faster but not enough where I will be able to tell a difference. Ill stick with AT&T and their great customer service and wait the extra second or two for a browser page to upload.

Yea, since running custom roms I've been seeing better speeds as well. With CM7, I have been getting 5Mbps down @ home on a consistent basis. Flashed back to the stock rom and I'm only seeing 2Mbps download speeds

Over 5 download and 1.25 Up.. I received at&t update yesterday and now running on H+ speeds (4g) This is only on 3 bars.. I am very pleased. Notice the "Hsdpa" connection below for proof. BTW.. this is faster than my home wifi connection. At&t finally came through!
I was getting .5-.8 download and very .3-.4 before update.. Proof in the pudding.. update worked!
Test Date: Apr 30, 2011 8:27:31 am
Connection Type: Hsdpa
Server: Nashville, TN
Download: 5.08 Mbps
Upload: 1.25 Mbps
...Ping: 155 ms
My last test was
Ping 93 ms
Down 3.85mbps
Up 1.19mbps

I have an H+ on my bar, but my network type in Settings->About Phone->Network Type is UMTS. What does this combination mean? Here are the results of my speedtest today with 3 bars and the information above:
Server: Bixby, OK
Ping: 261ms
Down: 510kbps
Up: 262kbps
Makes me wonder if they flipped some sorta switch overnite. When I woke up my phone had signal..but wasn't connected to data for some reason. I restarted it...ran a speed test...and pulled the numbers I just listed.
Previously the best I had ever gotten was around 4.5 down...and that was only once. Generally I had gotten 2.5 to 3.5 down on average.

Past couple of days i've been getting these results constantly. I had the hunch they've been doing backhaul here since i was randomly loosing service and switching to Edge a few days ago.
I've only tested on the south side Of Tulsa, OK (jenks bixby and ba too) I see we're not on the 4g map.
every time I test I get pitiful d/l during the day like 200kbps-300kbps but I do get 1mbit up pretty consistent.
If I try at night I get 1mb/1mb u/d about 50% of the time, other 50% I get about the same daytime 300kbit/1mbit. I did get as high as 3.5mbit down twice.
there's a 7.5mbit down and a 13.93mbit down both in log once too, not sure if that's correct or not, does show mobile not wifi.
Question: I still have my $30 smartphone personal unlimited I used on my blackjack II. Is that plan not having a "4g" in the name going to limit my speeds at all when we get the backhaul and such installed here?
Ping: 141ms, download: 869kbps, upload: 914kbps. I am in Columbus, Ohio! This is typical. I just called AT&T yesterday and they were supposed to make adjustments to augment my connection. Thoughts? Suggestions?
The HTC Inspire 4G was released as the first phone to run on AT&T's 4G HSPA+ network. The device features a large, 4.3-inch display, 8MP camera capable of 720p HD video capture, and a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. The name of the game here is ... Read More
