Default Purchase experience and first impressions

I've been lurking here in the weeks leading up to the release of the Inspire 4G. I obtained much knowledge from this forum, so I decided to post some thoughts of my wonderful new phone.

I purchased the phone from an AT&T retail store at about 12:15pm on Sunday. Surprisingly, I was the only customer in the store at that time.

The sales rep admitted that he had little knowledge of the device. I actually had to explain to him that there were separate compartments for the battery and SIM/SD. The rep didn't struggle much with the battery cover. However, the rep must have been too forceful with the lower compartment. I say this because as I left the store, I noticed a large crack in the middle of the SIM/SD cover. I promptly returned to the store and received a replacement SIM/SD cover. Has anyone else experienced a cracked/damaged SIM/SD cover?

The rep told me that I was the first to purchase the Inspire. I thought that there would be much more demand for this phone.

Hardware/OS: The Inspire is a beautiful phone. The screen is bright with crisp fonts. The interface is very responsive to the touch. I have zero experience with the Android OS, so I cannot comment on the OS itself. The camera takes excellent pictures with adequate lighting. The 720p video looked excellent on playback. Note: I was outdoors in sunlight.

Voice/Data: The voice clarity was excellent during phone calls. Data seemed fast enough. However, this is my first smartphone. I haven't tried any speed tests.

Wifi: I was able to connect to my router only when the SSID was being broadcasted. I prefer to turn off SSID broadcasting. I'll have to dig further on this issue.

Data plan: I opted for the 200MB/$15 plan. I have access to Wifi at home and at work. I found an app called NetCounter in the market. It appears to be a nice app for monitoring data usage. It monitors cell and Wifi usage.

Great review, I agree with your assessment!

I just purchased this phone fromm the local Att store lets just say thank god the regional manager was there none of the reps knew anything about the phone. I mean nothing I thought it was comical the way they kept going back to the RM and asking question out of the 5 reps there it was funny watching them all hold the sim card and look at the battery slot saying "its got to go somewhere" any way after an hour phone seems nice

@Flyingfish. LOL at the clueless reps. My sales rep was competent, but a total noob to the hardware. I told him that I had watched MANY videos online.

I just got it about an hour ago at an AT&T store, I was originally planning on buying it outright for the $399.99 off contract price since I had just upgraded barely six months ago. But the guy got the manager to give me a early upgrade deal, which extremely surprised me that they did that considering I hadn't even been a year into my current contract.

I was then told by the sales rep that I only now had to pay $300, I said "fair enough I expected to pay $399."

After prying open that darn battery door, the rep was finishing things up and was about to ask me to swipe my debit card when he noticed and told me that the manager actually swiped me in for an early upgrade to this phone for only $179. Yes, $179.

My jaw dropped and I was so excited, my final price was about $190 from tax or so.
