Default what to do: phone won't let me install upgrade

so my phone is rooted, and I wanna download an update from software number 1.80 to 1.84, but everytime I download it and then try to install it, I get the droid next to a triangle with an exclamation point. What can I do? Do I have to unroot it? I've already factory reset the phone and formatted the SD card, to no avail.

well I unrooted it and got it back to factory settings, and installed the update, and Speed Test shows WAY faster results, but it still says HSDPA in "about phone." Is this 4G? I thought 4G was HSPA+

Yes, but now you're unrooted. Didn't need to do that...

Re-root and install this:

[ROM] Ace_Cingular_US_1.84.502.11-Radio-26_06_06 _30_M - xda-developers

This is exact rom you have now, but it is rooted. Best of both worlds...
