How to delete duplicated contacts after import from sim card?

I just import all contact from a sim card, but all of them have 4 - 5 same information in each contact.

Is there a way to delete them all the duplicated ones once? Im deleting one by one, it takes a while to do.

thanks.

This would be handy to know, I have the same problem.

I am sure there is some software for this. But haven't found anything on Market as yet. Have looked a few times too...

Some pointers would be nice...

I did some search on google and market, nothing comes up to fix this.

It probably caused by the way android read the old data format from sim card. Right now android doesnt even use sim anymore, using its new way to store data.

YES...it does work...simply go to your Gmail account online, then contacts...then scroll down and select the ones you want to get rid of, then press delete. A message pops up says these changes will also be deleted from other records, Google Voice...Android...iPhones (boooo!)...etc...confirm, and you are done. I have nearly a 1000 contacts, and finding the doubled up ones took me less than 5 mins.

Nice work around, even if i do say so myself!!!

(Still would be nice to have this function on the phone and/or in Gmail...Gmail should automatically scan your contacts for duplicate data sets, and ask if you want them deleted).

After some playing around, I still dont have phone contact synch with gmail's contact, but the email that was already there inside gmail are synch into my android phone the first day I got it.

How come it only download email contact into my phone, but not sending my phone contact to gmail.

Kind of lucky to find out now there is no phone back up on my phone before my phone actually lost/damaged.

In short to answer the question of how to Sync the phone contacts in Gmail and my HTC Magic, and I have to say I am not sure as my contacts sunc automatically between gmail contacts and phone contacts. My previous phone's contacts were uploaded to my Magic when I bought it by my network provider, (didn't change network provider, always NTT Docomo for 10 years).

Mistake I made was to back up my contacts and apps using Mybackup from Market. I had to change my phone after a week using insurance, as my son had been using the phone as a spoon to stir his drink!!! New phone came to me, but old info was not able to be moved, so used the Mybackup app not knowing that Gmail had automatically sync'd my contacts.

I will try and find our how to sync to phone numbers into Gmail...and will come back with my solution...

Found this....

How do I sync android phone contacts to my online gmail acct? - Gmail Help

Specifically the last post of the thread....

Posted by DonutDude:

I had the same problem. In 1.6 using the contacts-> edit sync groups-> Sync all contacts simply does not work.

This was not a problem in cupcake because cupcake had Auto-Sync (which does work) on by default.

THIS PART: To fix your problem go to settings->Data Synchronization and enable Auto-Sync. After a minute or two your online Google contacts will be up to data again.

I just tested it, and it works. Make sure the tick boxes in Auto Sync are ticked. If they are already, then untick them, and tick them once, and the auto-aync will automatically update from that point. Check your online contacts on Gmail, info on Calendar, and emails on Gmail, and things should be sync'd perfectly. Double entries and all...now you can delete any double entries you have manually from Gmail contacts, these changes will be also made to your phone's contacts.

You now also have a back up of your phone's contact info should something terrible, like a child stirring it in a cup of OJ, happen.

Hi All,

I just downloaded an app called "Contact2Sim" and it solved all my problems - allows you to erase contacts from the SIM card as well as copy contacts from your phone to the SIM!

Gmail will scan for duplicates, logon using a pc and click on contacts on the lower right hand side of the contacts window there's an option to find and merge duplicates.
