tone seems to have a little less bass in calls and music, so it doesn't sound muffled on bluetooth Not seeing, hearing, or noticing anything else yet.

BoomSound used to be active when listening with my jaybird freedom sprints..it's not now and I have to say quality is lowered at least with these ear buds...very scratchy sounding now.

Yep, new message "Boomsound is not available over bluetooth connections"

They should have restricted it to Boomsound is not available on calls, or just make it user selectable for bluetooth. I have LG Tone 730's.

updated first post with information on new updates.

Perhaps because you are on probation? That is the only thing I can think of.

I am going to start using Extreme Power Saving at 6 am tomorrow and see how long my pone lasts

Watching Netflix and Hulu while at the gym....audio keeps failing....it doesn't show BT disconnected or any error for that matter swap back to Pandora and it works flawlessly.

****edit****

After 2 hours of streaming media there are some definite issues with sound and volume quality on my phone. Pandora is ok but the sound is not as rich or as loud as before. Streaming video on Hulu, Netflix, cbs etc is so quiet now that I have to crank up the phone and earbud volume to max to hear it...as well as sound cutting out entirely.

My battery app went stupid after enabling EPSM. Seriously, EPSM shuts off everything. I love it. I was at 40% after texting all day and some downloads at work. This going to be great.

After testing EPSM I disabled it and could no longer access the play store. It gave me an enable background data message. I checked and it was enabled. Had to reboot phone to clear the error.

I have GSAM Battery Monitor on my phone. After the first EPSM try my app still showed me how many hours my phone has been unplugged. After using EPSM again, it's like the app has forgotten how long my phone has been unplugged. My Battery Notifier Pro app experienced the same thing. I assume EPSM stops all apps from even reading your phone. I have to track the hours unplugged by hand now. Just hand me an abacus.

I'm also noticing a general slow down of phone performance post update. I wonder if their general stability improvements were done by turning down the processor....I don't normally go by benchmark apps but after running and comparing to the pre update numbers the app is reporting a significant decrease in performance.

That's probably why the kernel was taking a crazy amount of the battery.

have you rebooted the phone since doing the update. Sometimes a second restart helps

What benchmark app are you using. Would like to compare numbers, post update and maybe even get someone that still hasn't updated to post a bench using the same benchmark app.

Yes I've rebooted. I used a couple different benchmark apps but the only one I had history in was Antutu. Prior to update the number was 36950 post update it's 29943.

My phone has gotten exceedingly glitchy. I reset back to factory and am still experiencing issues. I called HTC and they advised wiping the cache partition by going into the Hboot screen and choosing recovery and then when the ! comes up holding down the power and vol up key...there were more instructions but infortunately my phone glitches out on the ! screen and I can't get any further options to complete the instructions they gave. She recommended that I send my phone in to HTC. I advised I would just return in to the store and either get a new one or revert back to my other phone.

Try this: ( you will have fun getting it right!)

Power off phone (be sure to turn off fast reboot in settings first). Boot into recovery by holding volume-down key and then holding power key until boot menu appears. Volume down to RECOVERY and tap power to select. HTC logo appears followed by a blank, dim screen. Now, tap all three together: power, volume up and down, and release immediately. You may have to repeat this until you get the timing just right. Black screen appears and sd card error message scrolls. After about ten seconds, recovery menu appears (all in very small font). Volume-down to "wipe cache partition" at bottom of list and tap power key. Cache gets cleared. Then select "reboot system now" by tapping power key again. Done!

Thanks for the assist...apparently my timing must suck because I get stuck on the exclamation point screen.

***edit***

GEEEZ it must be my trex arms and fat fingers...that took FOREVER to get right but I did eventually get to the screen to wipe the cache partition. It was the up down volume that was the key. HTC said vol up only and it just wouldn't go with that. Thanks SolApathy!!

The update seems to have removed the option to turn the Home screen button into a Menu button by holding it down. No big loss since it didn't work to begin with but interesting choice to remove it completely rather than get it to work. Maybe they just couldn't get it to reliably work with Google Now?

If I press and hold on mine I get a round Google icon to click on...before It would just launch Google Now and didn't show any icons...

Right. That is the normal behavior. Prior to this update there was a setting where you can change that behavior and make a long press on the home OK the menu button in other screens (which didn't work). Now that setting is gone.

It doesn't really bother me. Before I think it was necessary because HTC took up screen real estate with the three button icon but now it is really just like Stock Android. I have all the Nexus Devices so I am just used to the three button menu choice.

On the MOTO G (GPE),w/some apps, the menu button would be positioned to the right of the other three buttons. This was ideal.

In other situations, menu access was all over the place, but, really wasn't an issue,as the handset was small enough to comfortably navigate.

One other feature/option I forgot to check for:

Is there an option to hide the on-screen buttons for each app?
This is something the FLEX has,& is really cool for media consumption.
If it's not there,it's not a deal breaker.
From experience w/the FLEX,at 1st,I enabled the hide feature on every app (w/just a small tab on the bottom of the screen to access the buttons when needed).
However, this proved to actually just add a bit of frustration & I gradually added back the on-screen buttons to most apps, except those to where access to navigation isn't desired/needed for an extended amount of time (games/videos/etc....)
Anyway, after a lengthy hands-on yesterday,I'll be dropping by T-Mobile after work on Friday to pick one up,(seriously considering going in late & picking it up @ the opening bell)......

For the most part the Menu Icon is in the upper right hand corner on most apps but it tends to move around depending on the developer. No there isn't an option to hide the on screen buttons in so far as I have found. But I like having the buttons there. They disappear when watching a full screen video and other things like that.

I kinda like that just as well, call it SMART-HIDE if you will. This functionality will no doubt improve as developers continue to update their apps....

It's called immersion mode, the app dev needs to implement it for it to happen.

So I got a call last night from HTC Special Projects team regarding the Bluetooth issue (was really surprised to get any reply!) I reported and they have stated it it is a bug , and that it was important enough to warrant a call. Apparently I was the first to report it, and they are quickly working on resolving it and putting out a patch to resolve the issue and potential exploit concerns

for those unfamiliar with the issue-

Normally when BT is active you can choose 2 options:

-Phone visible to everything (with a timeout menu item available to adjust the length of visibility)
-Phone only visible to paired devices.

The HTC M8 is missing the option to hide the phone from all unpaired devices, meaning when BT is on, everyone can not only see it, but they can also attempt to pair to it (imagine some annoying person in a internet cafe trying to request access which pops up a request on your screen) While they would not be able to connect they could annoy you with pop-ups requesting connections which would be quite aggravating.

On the more sinister side of things it make the phone more of a target for exploits by saying "I'm here, try to hack me!" Though anyone can sniff your BT address this just makes you a little more tasty than everyone else.

I will not go into the details of how they can exploit BT, with it's limited effective range, but there are many exploits out there that can allow hackers to remotely access a phone (provided they are within range) and use it to make calls, access data, listen in on conversations and browse the internet.

If you frequent busy places like internet cafe's you can become a prime target.

I believe the numbers for EPSM is based on standby time for the M8. If you are actually using your phone with 5% remaining, it will not last for 15 hours.

I used EPSM for about 6 hrs last night. I came out of the modern here or there so my test is not 100% accurate. I think while in ESPM you can expect a 1.5 - 2% drop an hour while actively utilizing your phone. I did not have 3G, 4G, or WIFI enabled during my monitoring. I started at 98% and my phone was unplugged for almost 6 hrs and I experienced an 11% drop in that time frame just texting.

Default Verizon update

Just checked and yes there is an update to the phone that took the software number to 1.55.605.2.

I now have the option in the developer options to turn on High performance mode. Guess I'll give it a try.

***My apologies I didn't know there was a dedicated thread for updates. Please delete if need be***
