Can't unlock HTC One S (with foreign SIM and T-Mobile code)
I have a perfectly functional HTC One S from T-Mobile USA. Love it, even though it still has the stock ICS with all the bloatware etc.
Problem is, the phone is locked to T-Mobile USA, and I just moved to Germany. Luckily T-Mo kindly gave me the unlock code, no problem. Unfortunately, when I put in my German SIM card, and it asks for the unlock code, it won't accept the T-Mo code as correct. I have had them triple check that the code is correct for my IMEI, and at this point T-Mobile's customer reps are saying
a) "not all SIM cards are compatible with the unlock process, try another foreign SIM" and
b) my only other option is to get a replacement device from them (which is not really an option, since I'm out of the country and besides, they would just give me an identical, locked phone - no reason to expect different results from the exact same actions).
Question: What is this business about "not all SIMs are compatible?" Could this have something to do with GBA vs. non-GBA SIMs? But as far as I can tell, putting a non-GBA SIM into the One S (which needs a GBA one, right?) would just affect its data connection, not the unlock process...?
If anyone can shed light on this, or offer any suggestions, I would really appreciate it. Going back to a flip phone is no fun, and I don't have the Euros for a new one.
