I recently purchased an HTC One V for Virgin Mobile and I've been trying to figure out how to add custom notification sounds (for texts, email notifications, etc) to the phone. I have had 2 previous android phones and was unsuccessful when I tried the same method as I did with those.

Has anyone successfully added custom notification sounds on this phone? If so, could you please tell me what directories you placed the sounds in or what method you used.

Putting mp3 files (with that name extension) into /notifications or /media/notifications on your /sdcard doesn't work??

It doesn't seem to. After I add them to either directory they don't appear in my list of notification sounds. That's what I did on my previous android phones and it worked fine.

I used the Zedge app to get Ringtones, Wallpapers and notification sounds. It seems to work fine with me although I don't know specifically where it stores notifications.

I have the same problem adding custom notification sounds when I try to get more it says no contacts available ?

i'm also using zedge until i have the time and patience to clip my own mp3s. i had clipped the drums from "in the air tonight" and used that as my text message alert on my last phone.

right now, w zedge, i'm using the "back to the future" chimes for texts, chewbaca's growl/purr for my morning alarm (sublime's "what happened" on my old phone). using my own image for wallpaper, i posted it in the home screen thread.

I've stored mine in a file called ...media, on the sd card. If you don't have one, make one.
If you don't have a file manager, download Estrongs File Explorer app from Google Play. The settings of that app can be set to explore UP TO ROOT. Once you have a media folder, make a new folder in that one & name it audio. In that folder, make two new others. Name them notifications, and ringtones. Download or move any custom sounds you have to those folders, according to their purpose. Close the file manager. Go to Settings>Sound. When you chose the Phone Ringtone option, you should see your custom ringtones listed with all the stock ones.
For SMS notifications, go to Messaging app & open. Go to MENU at the top right corner & touch Settings. Touch the Notifications. In that sub-menu, go to Notification sound & touch to chose a sound from the list. Your custom txt message notice sounds should be listed. Estrongs File Explorer will let you manually move & make new folders as you need. It's a MUST HAVE for stuff like this.

I have my Optimus V and my wife's HTC One V set up with the same file structure mentioned right above me with the addition of an Alarms subdirectory under Audio subdirectory. I have had the Optimus well over a year and the HTC for about a month and no problems changing ringtones or notification sounds, as well as alarms. I also use ES File Explorer on both phones and recommend this app.

On the HTC One V you can go into the settings by dragging down the notification bar and selecting settings, then Personalize and change your sounds there. You can change your ringtones for contacts, SMS, etc. various ways depending on the app you use for each purpose.

As others mentioned I also use Zedge but then I use ES File Explorer to move the ringtones, notification sounds, alarms, etc. to the directory structure I mentioned.
