Exclamation Alarm not working properly

Hi all,

I've been having an off-and-on issue with the stock alarm on my HTC One V. Let me explain.

I have 3 alarms set in the morning: 4:15am, 4:25am, and 5:15am. The 4:15 alarm is my main alarm, but I know I won't actually get out of bed until 4:25 (hence the second alarm). The 5:15 alarm is a backup in case I turn off the first two alarms, and is the latest I can wake up.

I go to bed around 10pm, with a fully-charged phone. I press the power button once to turn the screen off, after double- and triple-checking that all of the alarms are set.

And here comes the problem: the alarms NEVER GO OFF. Not even one of them! This is a new problem -- during the first month or two of having the phone the alarms worked perfectly. Now, I have started using a standard alarm clock, set to 4:30am. When that goes off, I press the power button once on my phone, wait 2-3 seconds, and the 4:15 and 4:25 alarms begin to go off. This happens with the stock alarm as well as "Alarm Clock Xtreme Free" and "Alarm Clock Plus".

I am beginning to think that my phone is going into "too deep" of a sleep mode. If the screen is off for a long period of time (more than 2 hours), the phone does not seem to update the time. For example, I turned the screen off at 7:01am this morning. At 9:30am, I turned the screen back on and noticed that for 2-3 seconds the clock still said 7:01am. Then it "woke up" and "refreshed" itself and the time switched to 9:30am. I don't think this is how the phone is supposed to function... right?

Someone please tell me you have had this problem and know of a fix. I hate the BEEP-BEEP-BEEP of traditional alarms (it is terrifying to wake up to that noise) and I can't wake up to music, so the alarm on my phone is the best option. My last two phones (a Motorola Razr (the original pink flip one) from Verizon, and an LG Chocolate Touch from Verizon) had no problems with their alarms and I relied solely on those for years and years.

Thanks in advance for all of your help. I'm confident that SOMEONE can figure this out.

-Christina

Oh also -- I'm not sure if this problem coincided with the download/installation of the Android 4.0.3 software update. I am now running Software Version 1.08.652.11 710RD -- this update was supposed to fix the battery-indicator issue that was present on some phones, including mine. It seems that the software update fixed that problem.

Not that that helps you any, but I'm having the exact same issue... feels like the phone goes into deep sleep after a while and loses track of time, networks and other things. I think the time before this happens is about five hours... but that's just a guess based on the old times I've seen when it comes on.

I contacted HTC about the issue (on the suggestion of another user in a related forum post). They immediately contacted me back asking for information about my phone and some contact information, but I haven't heard anything yet.

On a positive note: I found the app "Timeriffic" and I set it up to change my volume settings about 20 minutes before my alarm is supposed to go off. I don't actually need it to change any settings, but it seems that this app will work even if your phone is in a deep sleep. Then, once it "does its thing", my phone is no longer in a deep sleep and my alarms (both stock and Alarm Clock Xtreme Free) work flawlessly.

I know it's not a permanent or ideal fix, but it works and the Timeriffic app doesn't take up much space and runs totally behind-the-scenes (it doesn't have to be open in your Recent Apps in order to work properly).

I'll keep you updated if I hear from HTC or find a better solution.

I just started having this issue too - caused me to be late for work! My thought was that I had the phone set on vibrate or all ringers and vibrate off when I went to bed that night. I wasn't sure, but lately I've been verifying that my ringer was turned up before I go to sleep, and so far it has worked. Of course, this has only been a few days now...

Have you tried checking the volume with yours?

Yeah, mine isn't a volume issue.

As a side note: my boyfriend has the same phone, purchased 1 month before mine, and his alarm works fine.

I've tried Timeriffic now, too, and it really seems to fix the issue - apart from additionally being incredibly useful otherwise :-) Thanks for the hint!

Hello, I just called HTC about this after getting no where with the virgin mobile tech support. The HTC rep that I talked to knew exactly what was going on. She said the tech team is aware of the problem, and that more and more people calling in with their phone serial numbers will help them be able to fix it. She said it is a glitch with the phone, and for the moment they are recommending using an outside app from the google play store (such as timeriffic, alarm clock extreme, and go clock widgets). If others are having this problem, call 1-866-449-8358 to talk to HTC instead of talking to Virgin Mobile. VM will recommend a factory reset, which won't do anything for the issue. No current ETA on when the update will be available, but at least they are starting to get enough people calling about it. My rep checked this forum and found this thread, recommended I post so that others can try to fix the problem too.

Default Alarm clock xtreme free having problems, too.

Just wanted to let people know that my wife and I have both been having this problem with our phones, too. We tried installing alarm clock xtreme free, and we have now been having problems with it not waking us up, too. So, it doesn't seem to be a problem with just the stock alarm clock. I would have to assume it is a problem with the phone's state, or something similar.

Anyway, I'll try calling htc as suggested, and will also try timeriffic.

I have not had an issue yet, but I have only had 1V a few days. Now I am going to be paranoid about getting up in time for work.

I have been having the same issue since I purchased my phone at the end of December. I tried using the "timeriffic" app and it didn't work for me. I did contact HTC and I've cut and past their reply below. I've done everything short of a factory reset so I'll update this tomorrow to let everyone know the results. Thank you.

Thank you for contacting HTC. I understand the alarm application on the device is not working, and I would be happy to help with this matter as much as I can.

I would suggest clearing the data from the Clock application. Please pull down the notification bar and select Settings then Apps and tap the All option at the top. This will have a list of all the application on the device, please locate clock in the list and select it and press the Clear Data option and press Okay to confirm. Once this is done please set an alarm to see if this resolve the problem.

If the issue continues please try a set reset on the device and try to set another alarm. Please soft reset the phone by pressing the power button until the phone powers itself off, and then powers itself back on.

If the soft reset does not work please try clearing the cache partition on the device. Here are the steps to perform this action.

1. Please pull down the notification bar and select Settings, then tap power and make sure the Fast Boot option is unchecked. When this is complete please power off the phone.
2. Once this is done, hold the Volume Down button and tap on the Power button.
3. When you see the screen with the 3 Android images, release the Volume Down and Power buttons.
4. Use the volume button to Recovery and press power the select.
5. Press and hold volume up and press the Power button
6. Use the volume button to highlight Clear Cache Partition.
7. Please press the power button on Reboot System Now.

If clearing the cache partition does not help, we will need to do a factory data reset on the device. This will reset the phone to factory settings and reinstall Android to the device. Please note that this will remove any data you have on the device’s internal memory. This does include your contacts. You will be able to save any Phone contacts to your SD card. This is done by opening the People application then tap Menu>Import/ Export>Export to SD card then choose Phone Contacts. This will save all you contacts to your SD card. Once the reset has been performed you will go to People>Menu>Import/ Export> Import from SD card> Phone. If you have any Google contacts, these are already synced to Google. Any data like pictures and music that are saved to the SD card will not be touched. Once your information has been saved, you may perform the reset by going to Setting then tap on SD Card & Phone Storage or Storage and then choose Factory Data Reset. You would then follow the on screen prompts and the device will reset. When the reset is complete, you may set up your device as normal. Once the phone is back up and running please try setting up the alarm again to see if the issues has been resolved.

**UPDATE** I did all of the above short of a factory reset and my alarm did NOT go off this morning. :-(

Are there any updates with this issue? I have been experiencing the exact same thing on my phone I purchased a month ago. The alarm does not always wake the phone up and sound when it has been set to go off. Maybe most users don't use their phone as their alarm clock, but for those of us who do, this is pretty bad. It is a basic function. How could that go wrong?

Has HTC been able to reproduce the bug on demand and is it an active bug being worked on in their bug database?

HTC is aware of the issue. I've contacted them 3 times and each time they tell me there are no new updates. I've had enough and recently purchased a Nexus 4 and I'm heading to Straight Talk. Probably won't be purchasing a HTC device in the near future.

I've only used the alarm twice in the 30 days of owning the phone. I remember the first time that it did not go off, the second time I'm pretty sure it did. Since I rarely need it, I havn't been that worried. But I will set it to go off now. It will be needed on trips in the future.

Just to add more data to this. I tried using Alarm Clock Xtreme Free by Angle Labs, and this morning this alarm did not wake my phone up either. So it is definitely a function of the phone and/or the OS.

Alarm went off this morning, but the snooze did not work later.

I must say I was not happy with the fact that the phone has to be unlocked to access the buttons.

Add me to the no morning alarm list. Software version 1.10.652.6710RD
Tried everything except factory reset still no morning alarm. Alarm during day seems to work for most part. Phone purchased Dec and activated march.

Alarm set for 5:30 am at first worked intermittent first week, now nothing. Checking time this morning phone showed 1:35 am at 5:35 am and update to correct time within a few seconds.

Default Me too...

I have the same issue. I've had the phone for 8 months now and like it but this alarm problem is really annoying.

I first faced this issue 4 months back and a factory reset "fixed" the issue. The problem crept back last week and am trying to see if there are any other ways to fix it apart from another factory reset.

This is a new issue for me. Oddly enough BOTH mine and my wife's phones did not go off this morning. Luckily my 4 year old decided to wake us up in time.

I tried changing the time on an existing alarm and it did not go off. This was not a deep sleep issue since I only set the alarm for a few minutes and kept an eye on it.

I created a new alarm and it worked fine. Going to try deleting all my alarms and set several through out today to see how it goes. I will definitely be setting a backup alarm in the morning.

I was thinking it may have something to do with the most recent update I did a couple days ago but the alarm worked after the update for a couple days. Plus my wife did her update a week ago and worked fine until this morning.

Strange. It does not seem to be a deep sleep issue. It does not seem to be a recent update issue. Why would both our alarms stop working on the same day?

Hello, I've been having the same issue myself. I've also had no luck with any of the fixes listed. While roaming around in the Settings > Displays, gestures and buttons menu I noticed the Stay Awake setting. Many here have said that the phone seems to be going into a "deep" sleep mode when idle for long periods which freezes the internal clock (I have noticed that the clock takes a few seconds to update when woken up) and doesn't trigger the alarm. I think activating the Stay Awake feature should work around this issue for those who charge their phones while they sleep and use it as a morning alarm. I doubt it addresses the issue when the phone is unplugged, but its something. And if it works (Ill be trying it tonight for the first time) it would seem to lend credibility to the "deep sleep" theory. Good luck!

Default Alarm!!!

This just happened today! and I got my ass chewed.

My alarm was set for 0515 this morning just like it is every six weeks when I am on this 0630 - 1530 shift. Today I woke up a around 0400, looked at my phone and went back to sleep. I even checked my google hangout, so the phone was completely woken up. Went back to sleep and well, I was late.

I have hated this phone pretty much a few months after I got it, and here is just one more reason. I am going to clear the cache and use a third party app to prevent this until I can get a new device. If I remember I will come back with an update here next week with how those steps work out.

Glad I'm not the only one with this problem, though it should not be an issue.

I have been using my HTC One as an alarm for wks and I change the time as i have to be up at different times.... the alarm is the default (GOLD) ring which is continuous. All of a sudden y'day i was late for work and i thought i was just over tired and slept through it, which is unusual as it is loud but I checked it and it was set. This morning I happened to wake up before my alarm was supposed to go off and when it did, it made one 'beep' noise and went straight to snooze, didn't give me the option of 'snooze' or 'dismiss'.. i tried changing the time for a minute later to see if it was just a fluke and it did the same thing... thank god it wasn't overly important that i was to be awake this morning!!!!

Does anyone know what the problem might b?

Default Sony Experia Tipo has the same problem

I have started getting the same problem with my Sony Experia. I have an Sony Experia Tipo which is one month old. My android version is 4.0.4.

Until yesterday my alarm was working fine. Since yesterday my alarm does my switch ON if I the phone is in sleep mode for long time (I guess more than 2 hours)

After a I switch the phone after a long time, after 2-3 seconds the display updates the time and alarm starts ringing

I think the phone is not able to update the time and thats why alarm is not triggered in time.
