Think that the OP means that the screen lights up……HTC, by default has the green flashing LED to notify of you of a message etc. Lighting the screen up for a message uses more power than the LED.
Just cant please some people eh?
I think that some of the SMS apps (handcent, go sms et all) give the option to have the screen light up, you may want to have a look at them.
