And just as an FYI, AT&T and Sprint are listed on Best Buy's site at the standard $199. I don't see anything about pre-ordering, tho.

Default preorder issues

I have been trying to preorder mine on sprint.com and I tried on wirefly and neither of them are working, I keep getting an redirected back to a confirm order screen at sprint and on wirefly it says that it can't confirm my payment. I tried with multiple credit cards just to make sure it wasn't an issue with that. It's 5am here and I'm pissed I can place my order. Anyone else seeing this issue?

Lets keep the pre order discussions here.

I just placed the order on sprint.com at 0235 Pacific Time. took less than 5 minutes. I went for off contract pricing and picked up the silver (white) model.

I suggest you try a different browser, remove cookies, cache. Look on your card online and see if there have been any attempts to charge the order.

Are you up to date on your bill? I'm on auto pay and it showed that I owed money for this month. I was getting an error message but once I payed the bill it went through.

I was experiencing the exact same problem. After trying 3 times with the same credit card, I used a different one and the order went through. Strange, as there were no error messages when I was doing this.

From what I have read across the interwebs,

The black is more difficult to manufacture so that is the reason for the delay. The black model may not be available until after the official launch

HTC is offering a free case. I just preordered from best buy yesterday.. Hmmmm i wonder if they will match it.

http://htconeprereg.com/brands/HTCPreReg/homebrands/index.htm

Called Best Buy and they said they don't even have any accessories for it in yet so they dont know. Best they could offer was 25% off any accessories.

Preordered from Best Buy. I get the $50 gift card, that they had people sign up for earlier in the year, and I am trading my old Evo 4G into HTC for $100. I'll keep my EVO 3D for a spare phone.

Black or BUST!

If Black doesn't come out in a reasonable amount of time I might have to get the HDC One instead and paint it Black

Waiting a little longer for the Black, if it includes the 64GB option, might be well worth it.
The Evo 4G LTE Black (June 2) -> White/Silver (July 15) release dates were about 6 weeks apart, hopefully the wait for the Black One will be shorter than that.

I wonder if HTC Is using the Micro Arc Oxidation (MAO) process again to treat their aluminum and create the Black HTC One? Yes, The CNC machining and MAO treatment are long processes, but they should have perfected it along with the build timing by now through experience creating the HTC One S, Evo 4G LTE, etc.
From the Chipworks/iFixit Teardowns we can tell that HTC has had component parts on had such as the uni-body since as early as Jan./Feb.

In my un-professional opinion that should have been more than enough time to put ALOT of uni-bodies through the supply chain, MAO process, then build up...
Maybe I'm intentionally being a little naÔve, but if they've been working on this design for as long as they claim they have been then it seems delays should not really be a factor.

Maybe they are intentionally holding back the Black to try to break the market away from the stereotypical black plastic square slab form factor? Or maybe ATT used their deep pockets to not only buy exclusivity for the motherboards with the 64GB eMMC module but to secure nearly all the black chassis as well?

Black models have certainly made it to reviewers, but fewer customers have had them for sure.

I expect that the black is more work to produce, but the silver is also more distinctive, so I wonder if that's a factor if they have to prioritise one version - get the more easily recognisable one into people's hands first?

I've never worked in marketing, so have no idea whether they'd think that way.

Get the return on production investment happening asap.

Build the standard model by priority until orders support expansion and variations.

Already a lot of radio and firmware models to support.

Going 32 GB silver is economic production sense.

Even Samsung, far wealthier, is holding back on their 64 GB model. Same reason.

The black and 64 GB model combinations will come as demand increases. Both cost more to make, so they'll come later.

It's all about turning inventory. If you don't offer two choices without money coming in, you don't run out of one choice.

Coming soon vs. We ran out = Big difference.

Default The Devil's Advocate

Just some food for thought about the HTC One. Is it, hardware wise, a great phone? Yes and no. If anything goes wrong with it, you can't fix it. If the battery goes, you can't replace it. ( see the Ifixit teardown). When it works, is it good? Yes it is really good.....but, the OS will be a year old soon.

My problem is that this company only made $1.8 million last quarter. Is this the company that will push updates, honor warranties, and basically even stay in business? Some manufacturing defects are starting to show up, like bad GPS, etc. Will there be other defects showing up? Who knows, but I am worried that HTC doesn't have the resources to carry this thing through.

Unfortunately, I think I am going to wait this one out.

The OS is one step below the latest, and they have said it will be updated soon. "One year old" sounds like what Apple were saying about the S4 before launch . No, not worried there - though TBH I'll root and go custom pretty quickly with any phone I buy, so am more concerned myself with the size of the developer base than the manufacturer's update record.

I'm not worried about warranties not being honoured, and in the EU those are 2 year warranties. And how many phones don't have some teething troubles in the first batches? The best selling android of last year still has problems with some SD cards and the international version had (and for many, still has) a bug which can cause the phone to hard brick ("sudden death syndrome"), and there are threads here about some service centres still failing to handle this properly. My point here is not bashing any brand or model (I like the S3 a lot), but rather that a nervous customer could find reasons for avoiding any manufacturer.

Yes, I'd be happier if HTC's state was better, and indeed think it will be healthier for all friends of android if it improves. But I'm going to make my choice on the merits of the device and how well I feel it suits me.

Ok, facts time.

http://www.htc.com/www/about/newsroom/2013/2013-04-08-htc-releases-unaudited-results-for-1q-2013

HTC took in $1.43 billion - that's billion with a B and that's in US dollars.

They sunk a lot of coin into the One launch and took a big hit not being able to ship at levels matching demand in March, last quarter.

I'm really sick and tired of the blogosphere fearmongering by idiot "reporters" whose understanding of manufacturing economics is at the skill level of balancing a personal checkbook.

This is a repeat of the same tired bull crap from q4 2011.

The blogosphere predicted the end of HTC for stealing from Apple. Which it never did, but it lost the case. (Anyone forget the recent closed-door session where Apple and HTC agreed to cross-license things because Apple was afraid of going to court, or do we only remember the HTC hate?)

Then the blogosphere starting this same bull there - omgz pwnies, you probably can't get support, better buy something else.

Anyone seeing a pattern here?

As in plain as the nose on your face?

Anyone here actually believe that this pattern is not the result of money changing hands to screw HTC?

If you think that I'm nuts, then explain how every time HTC rolls over a billion Yankee bucks, the blogosphere runs stories that it's going out of business.

Go read the same meme at the launch of the Sensation, the One X and now the One.

Now go back and compare total HTC revenue and earnings between 2010 and 2012.

I'll help.

2010 revenue - NT$ 278.8b, or US$ 9.28b
2011 revenue - NT$ 465.8b, or US$ 15.5b
2012 revenue - NT$ 289.0b. or US$ 9.63b

So, HTC made FAR more than the nonsensical $1.8 million quoted here, and stories of their demise are vastly overrated.

And the next time you see one, ask yourself who's spreading them, and what the facts are.

And if anyone wants to try arguing about profits, get your ducks in a row and come loaded for bear.

I'm not going to politely tiptoe around these sensationalist lies any longer.

Thank you, Earlymon, I have been trying to compose a post to counter all this ridiculously uninformed scaremongering that people seem to be peddling as 'fact' and your post was far more eloquent and pleasant than the response I was considering....

I see what you're saying and somewhat agree, but will still get the phone later this year (especially if the 2013 Nexus device underwhelms me).

Just wanted to add this one fun fact that the economic journalist/experts seem to always conveniently fail to mention:

HTC hasn't reported a loss since they were listed on the stock exchange in March 2002.

Yeah HTC definitely doesn't get what they deserve. The Rezound (sans Beats commercials) was a great phone on Verizon, got good reception, good battery life, and had the best screen on Verizon at the time. The DNA is easily the best phone on Verizon, the first 1080P screen in the country, it's smooth as silk and a beautiful phone. And all you heard was how it had a tiny battery. The most infuriating thing at the time was a Verge article that brutalized the DNA for its battery life, and then gave a GS3 double the score for 15 minutes fewer life!

My wife was all settled for an EVO LTE, until I told her that she should get the One so she wouldn't lust after mine! She practically insisted I go to Best Buy today so she could get her phone before she goes on a cruise in a week and a half!

I'm looking @ T-MOBILE as you are.

ATM,no such animal exists on e-BAY or BEST BUY*,or even T-MOBILE,as T-MOBILE hasn't set a pre-order or release date yet.

*Just got off the phone w/both T-MOBILE & BEST BUY.By no means is anything gospel, just relaying what was said to me.

1) BEST BUY:Overwhelmed w/the amount of pre-orders,totally "sold out" & this is why any evidence to it existing on their site is now gone. The rep on the phone admitted they should have communicated w/the public a bit better than pulling the SKU out of the system, but,I'm guessing customers were smoke-checking their web site w/queries regarding the ONE. No word one way or the other as to if/when more will be in stock.

2) T-MOBILE: STATUS QUO,no official word on a release date or when/if BEST BUY will get more in stock.I will add that once I got through to a CSR,they knew exactly what I was referring to w/o having to repeat myself ad-nauseum & seemed to be in tune w/what's going on,regarding T-MOBILE & BEST BUY stock status.

My guess is we'll see more @ BEST BUY of the T-MOBILE branded ONE,but,ya probably want to be persistent in checking & HAVE YOUR $ READY,as we'll probably get a repeat of this again.

As for e-Bay,most sellers w/the ONE are profiteers & have no more in stock than you or I & simply re-selling their stock @a tidy profit once they receive it.Save your $ & get it elsewhere.

I would want to get this phone because of the two front speakers and the aluminum backs. What turns me off is that I need to root to get rid of Sense. I have grown to like stock Android with free hotspot like my N4 I got now. I will wait 3 mths later after it comes out.

You will save a bunch of money by waiting, but by then there will be another hot new item on the horizon tempting you. That is the curse we live with.

One seller got the ATT 32gb and he got 5 on pre-order and he is selling it for $800 each.

So far all I see is the ATT and Sprint. No news on Tmo.

I'm waiting on my email from HTC and my trade in is a go. One Galaxy Note for one HTC One from AT&T contract free sometimes it pays to be a Best Buy Mobile employee.

How about a heads-up should you hear when BEST BUY will again accept orders/pre-orders for the T-MOBILE branded ONE,provided that doing so will not jeopardize your job.
