Verizon HTC One passed through FCC so it should be coming soon. But is it too late?

Probably. I'm sure most people looking to upgrade got a galaxy s4 by now. I've been up for an upgrade since March. I want the HTC One, but Verizon will probably have a super locked bootloader and I just want the freedom to do what I want to my phone like I've enjoyed with my galaxy nexus.

Lol!
I saw the butterfly 2 for Verizon too. Only one store had it, and the Verizon employee showed me his Moto X he had on Cricket.

This thread has been going since Feb. Daily speculations showing up on CNET and other so called insider "leak" blogs etc., while potential customers search for a real release date. Nobody has anything firm, least of all a Verizon HTC one in their hot little hands.
If this is how Verizon wants to treat us long time customers, why are we still customers?
I am seriously checking other carriers plans and phone offerings and will switch if Verizon does not move soon....this week.

i am officially over the HTC One ....and if i had a choice i would be over verizon. Unfortunately they are the only game in town here in vermont.

It would be one thing if verizon or HTC communicated with their customers other than "by the end of summer".

its all bullshit...and i am over it.

Not in all areas, its spotty coverage...especially around where i work. I don't even have 100% LTE coverage with verizon. It drops off about 500 yds from my house.

It's all dependent on the coverage in your area.

Your best bet would be to find a knowledgeable T-MOBILE rep in your area or chat w/a T-MOBILE CSR on-line regarding coverage & compatibility.

Check the return policy of who you are looking to purchase the phone from, in case compatibility issues arise after the sale.

Better yet, if you are near a telus or at&t store, take your T-Mobile SIM Card & try it out w/the demo models available.

The AT&T one will work with the T-MOBILE network however you'll be missing certain radio bands for their HSPA network. I forget which ones it is exactly but it affects the speeds directly between 4GLTE and 3G.

Interesting. I just refreshed the page and still have this (and I signed up earlier today too):

I was just on the site however, talking with some rep named "Kaylen" who claimed that they don't have any official confirmation that Verizon is going to carry the One. I didn't point this link out (woulda, coulda, shoulda) - I said thanks for nothing and closed the chat.

(for some reason the link isn't displaying the image - the link should be: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bet51vd3rr5027p/Verizon%20HTC%20One.jpg)

I like how it says "Introducing..." like it's a not almost half a year old already.
It has been everywhere BUT vz, and they dare put their logo across the beautiful thing?
Shameful.

Default Pre-sales questions, help me decide.

Hi forum,

I'm looking to buy the HTC One, but have some questions that is probably best answered by those who own one...

I'd really like the black colored phone, but being aluminum, I'm concerned that the back will scratch easily, making the back looking like an old hammered piece quite fast. How is the "texture" of the back? Would there be some truth to my concern here if I get the black edition? I don't want to use a cover...

Next question is about BlueTooth. Does the BT-connectivity deliver clear quality for head/car usage?

And last question: Is the GPS fix fast or ultra-slow like my SGS2? How many satellites does it see in general?

Thanks.

hello,

strolling through the forum will give you the answers you seek, however I will help with some of your concerns.

as to the build quality of the device, smoke over this thread:

HTC one build quality

in a nutshell, the black has been shown to scratch easily and show fingerprints more so than the white/silver

as for your BT concerns, smoke over this thread:

HTC One Compatibility with in-car Audio/Bluetooth/Hands Free

BT quality is top notch on this device, but YMMV with your particular car and its compatibility with the bt stack that is employed on the htc one.

for headset quality, this is also good. I use LG Tone BT headphones and they are just wonderful. there are some wired buds with some flavors of this device in the box but you will most likely want to go aftermarket. again there is a thread on accessories for the one you should also smoke over.

as for your GPS concerns:

Antenna (includes GPS), reception discussion

all you want to know about the phone and its reception. in theory you only need 4 sats to geo locate accurately and this phone overall has good scores in that area.

you may want to also smoke over reviews from users here:

Real world reviews & comments from actual users

in the end though, its up to you to decide if you should get this device or not. no one can make that decision for you. your environment and requirements are unique to you. stop by the carrier of your choice and take it for a test drive.

@marctronixx, your reply deserves a little more than just thanks. That was exactly the answer I hoped for - believe it or not, I did search for the right forums before post .

Sad about the surface though - it just looks awkward to bury such a fine design in a cover.

Again thanks.

the htc one is a beautiful device for sure. either color is going to be a winner.

i have a clear plastic looking case that is nearly invisible on the phone. it does not hide any of the beauty of the device at all. there are a couple options in the accessory thread on this page below that will be worth a look over.

This!

I strongly suggest that you take any peripherals (B/T,earbuds,etc...) that you plan on using w/this phone.Call the people/businesses/etc... that you frequently contact for call quality.

Not to cause alarm, this is a great phone, but, best to find out before walking out the store only to deal w/a return if the phone doesn't perform as you desire.

Most carriers have a 14-day return window,in which most SNAFU's should rear up & exchange for another.

Please keep us posted on which phone you choose & feel free to post your 1st impressions in the forum!

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree on this front. I don't believe that the Black Color scratches easily at all. In my experience the surface is quite durable and hardened to almost a soft ceramic feel, much like the main area of HTC's Evo 4G LTE chassis (In the Build Quality thread above I go into more technical detail).
It doesn't scratch easily in my experience. I've been using the Evo 4G LTE for near a year and half, case free, and the main chassis area is soft and still flawless. I carefully sanded off the Sprint logo in the first month and it was quite difficult to accomplish.
However the plastic end pieces have fared a little worse and have some surface marks. The One has lower quality aluminum "end pieces" that cover the speakers - they have the grille holes through them - those have been shown to scratch very easily because they did not go through the same manufacturing process as the main chassis.
A vicious drop of The One, that is hard enough to mar/chunk the aluminum below the Black color, will show through in aluminum color. The surface will take a beating to a degree, but it is best not to drop the device say onto rock, concrete, or onto one of the leading edges.

I love seeing the follow up to queries like these. ITemplate, I'm interested in what your final decision will be, no matter what you choose. Don't be a stranger, let us know what you end up deciding.

Over in the Accessories thread I just added a link you might find interesting, leads to a Black skin that could give the Silver One a cheap but rather convincing Black appearance.

this is why no one should try to alter ones opinions on what to buy, etc over the internet. there will always be "just one more opinion" on an internet forum like this with thousands of eyes visiting daily.

this is also why I (and you as well my friend) offered threads to let the viewer read and get their own opinion. to be good helpers here we should offer up suggestions and follow threads to give the user more ammunition to arm themselves to make better decisions for their particular environment and daily use.

at the end of the day, we are all entitled to our opinion. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings with the class.

Yeah, I suppose in a perfect world we would all offer our links without or own opinions attached.

Purely from curiosities standpoint, how did the Black color hold up on your Evo 4G LTE? How is your One (whichever color) standing up so far, whats your environment and daily use patterns? Maybe I'm more of a moderate->light user and I should make this a personal realization?

We finally have official word: Verizon HTC One confirmed for August 22nd release

Confirmed for August 22nd, online and in stores. Not taking pre-orders, apparently, and no sign of the blue model.

Still, it's so late that I'm probably going to wait and see for the LG G2 reviews. With the Moto X's fancy hands-free voice activated controls, it seems like it might be wise to wait for Snapdragon 800 handset (which also has a low-powered core for such functionality). Something tells me it's going to be important for Key Lime Pie...

That is Verizon's shortcoming, not HTC. Do you really think HTC didn't want their flagship phone on one of America's biggest networks? Verizon was the on e slowing down the process for whatever reason, perhaps they got a sweet deal with Samsung which forced them to delay bringing the HTC One on, or perhaps they wanted to offload all the Droid DNAs before bringing a better phone on board, whatever the case, you can bet HTC was doing everything they could to bring the One to Verizon.

Super excited that this is coming to Verizon the day my contract expires. If that isn't a sign, I don't know what is. Goodbye beat up Rezound, hello One!

Default When might HTC One on Verizon coming to Costco?

I'm not sure if we have any lurking in this thread, but the last time I was hankering for a new phone (Galaxy Nexus), there were some people who seemed to be in the know about when Costco might get certain phones. So, just wondering, does anyone have any idea when Costco might get the Verizon HTC One? How long does it generally take for Costco to pick up new phones? And do we think that might match prices with the HTC One on other carriers?

In my experience (which is limited to just browsing those kiosks), it's usually a month or two until they have the new phones. I just checked Costco Wireless, and they're not even showing the new Droid phones, so I think you're in for a bit of a wait.

Meanwhile... I've got a shiny new One in my hands (in an Incipio DualPro Shine case - I was either going to leave with a case on it, or leave with it in the box while I drive around and find cases for it)

Default Looking to get an HTC One.

Greetings. I have been toying with the idea of getting an HTC One as my new phone but I have a few questions/concern I thought I should run by you folks first.

It's obvious HTC is not doing so hot financially right now. The One sold well, but not enough to help HTC get out of the hole they are in.

My concern is getting the phone, being locked in for two years and then HTC further slides into trouble (or disappears). I am not someone who likes to hack/mod their phone. I also like to make sure my phone has up to date software and it seems HTC is not good at that either.

Is it worth the risk getting the One? I am a Verizon customer.

hello.

HTC is not going anywhere, certainly no where in the next 2 years.

however, if you are concerned, by the phone off contract.

There are many happy users of this device, just google "htc one" and you will see.

in the end, though, no one can tell you what you should do. read the reviews here and stop into a cellular store to evaluate the unit up close and personal. take it for a 14 day test drive once your carrier picks up the device and make the decision on your own.

with all due respect, nothing is obvious. dont believe everything you read on the internet as gospel. research and make up your own mind.media outlets like to stir up controversy in order to sell ads and get clicks to their site. HTC have been around for a long time [edited].

also, updating the phone is not HTCs job, thats the job of the carrier as they have to add their own signature to the software. getting a nexus from google, for example, will make sure you get updates timely as there is no need for carrier mumbo jumbo to be added to the OS.

welcome. smoke over the reviews, do some research. you will see this is HTC's best phone yet!

Marctronixx is right. Go in and look at the phones. Try them *all* out - this way when you decide on The One (which is amazing, I've had it for a week now, and I adore it), you know what you want as a potential fall-back in case you decide that you don't want it after 14 days.

Then try it with an open mind. But I'll warn you, and maybe its because I had an Incredible for 3 years (which is now a game system for the daughters who have LG Ally's that they love but can't load crap onto) - you won't want another phone.

Picked my one almost a little over a week now after my phone got killed by the washing machine. Thankfully bestbuy insurance hooked me up with a free upgrade as the evo lte wasn't available.

It's black ... Of course
It's naked ... Of course
It's insured ... Of course
And it's awesome!

My only complaint is the menu access, but I guess that's Google's fault. It's just annoying, haha.

Not that VZW finally has this thing available I REALLY want it.

Currently rocking a DNA, which is certainly no slouch either. But there is just something about the One that is calling my name....

Default Thinking about getting this phone. My thoughts...

Hey all! I'm on the fence with the HTC One. There are a lot of things I like, but there are also a lot of things I don't. I'm hoping for some thoughts/advice/perspective that might help in my decision.

Let me start with a bit of background. My first Android was the Evo 3D. I loved everything about that phone, and realize now that it spoiled my expectations for what an Android device should be. It was a corporate phone, though, so when I lost the job, it had to go. This was right before the launch of the HTC One and the Galaxy S4, but I couldn't wait, so I got an LG Spectrum 2 to hold me over. It's fine for what I need, but I'm really eager to get a flagship phone in my hand.

I've read (okay, skimmed) the "Real World Review" sticky. It seems like that's a more general discussion. I decided to start a new thread because I'm trying to focus in on specific features/aspects of the phone. Also, since this isn't really a review, I wanted to avoid a potential attempted hijacking charge.

---

Home screens

There are two things about the home screens that bother me. One is that they don't wrap (or loop, or carousel, or whatever). As far as I can tell, there's no setting for this. Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

The other is management in general. It bothers me that you can't rearrange the home screens. It's not something I do often, but it does make it much easier to configure the layout. Does this bother you? If not, why?

Dock

I don't remember if this was possible with the Evo 3D, but on the One, the lockscreen icons cannot be set independently. This is unfortunate because the apps I want to access from the lock screen are often different from what I'd like to have on the dock.

Furthermore, the dock icons can only be configured from the app drawer. That's not too bad, but icons added to the dock are removed from the app drawer! To me, the app drawer is where you go when you're having trouble finding something, so I want everything to be there. I don't want to be scrolling through app after app looking for something only to realize I hid it in a folder on the dock. I doubt this is something I'd encounter very often, if ever, but I still think it's annoying. What do you think?

Camera

The camera is one of the major selling points of the One, and I've seen some compelling low-light comparisons. I'm not sure I like the way they have you switch between the front and rear facing cameras, though. It seems more gimmicky than practical. How does this feature compare to an on-screen toggle? Is it better, worse, or just different?

Settings

In general, it seems like the One doesn't have a lot UI options. I was poking around looking for things like the lockscreen icons and home screen wrap and was surprised to find them missing. I don't remember everything specifically, but in general, it seemed like the things I could change weren't very substantial, and the things that I wanted to change, I couldn't. I understand not wanting to overwhelm the user with settings, but it seemed like the One went too far in the other direction. Have you had problems configuring the One how you'd like? If so, what were you trying to do?

There's one feature on my LG that I like, and that's having the brightness slider right in the notification tray. Again, please correct me if I'm mistaken, but it does not seem that the One can be configured this way. I know the One has a brightness widget, and I think you can configure it as a quick toggle, but it's nice to be able to adjust the brightness without having to be able to actually see the screen.

Another point, which again, is a minor one, is that on the One, you can either manually adjust the brightness, or you can set it to adjust automatically. With my LG, I can set the brightness to automatically adjust, but still set the slider as a reference, so I can configure it to auto-adjust around, say, 20% or 80% as opposed to having it fully automated.

Other

Aside from that there's BlinkFeed's omnipresence, the lack of expandable storage and removable battery, and the fact that the power button is on the top left instead of the top right where I'd expect. I've already got past all that stuff, though, so We can skip it.

---

The biggest selling point for me is the front-facing speakers. After that is the honest-to-goodness spell checker (as opposed to just a text-predictor paired with a loathsome auto-correcter). I like the Sense Clock (the old default one) and the weather-based live wallpaper. In the end, though, I can't decide if I would rather live with all of the One's little quirks, or without its main features.

How about you? If you could do it again, would you? Or would you consider another device instead? What would keep you coming back to the One? What would drive you toward another device? If it didn't have the front-facing speakers, would you still pick the One over its rivals?

I really liked Sense 3 - but the blogosphere complained about the carousel home screen effect until they were blue in the face - and so HTC dropped it a while back. Even on the 2012 Evo 4G LTE you needed a root mod to get continuous home screen scrolling, so that's not a change unique to this phone.

My 3D was fast and had good battery life. My LTEvo is faster with even better battery life.

The One upgrades the hardware all around but also future proofs you and gives better multitasking due to its 2 GB ram and larger storage allocated for your apps.

With a 33% bigger battery and faster internal storage, I think you won't miss the changes on those to your 3D.

PS - I've tried running stock Android recently - and the apps are not as sophisticated as those included by HTC in my opinion.

Bestbuy has Verizon and Sprint versions but no ATT one.

Should be no real differences other than radio types. But that could be why they only have vzw and sprint right now maybe??

AT&T should be coming, they'd be silly to exclude the gsm phones.

50 bucks at best buy has me REALLY wanting to retire my DNA, even though I've been promised 4.3 and sense 5 by end of month....

I'll try to wait that long

Default Just got my Best Buy blue

I traded in my POS Lg Spectrum which wouldn't even receive calls from someone 20 feet away for the Blue HTC One for Verizon and I love this phone after only 24 hours. Right out of the box it is quicker the touch is responsive it has a better antenna the sound quality is incredible and the build is excellent. My wife has a DNA that made me want to try HTC cause she loves it and is an excellent phone. I used to be an exclusive Samsung guy because of past phones being the most reliable, got tricked into an LG which was a mistake and the HTC is definitely a top tier phone company. And the blue finish looks awesome.

Congrats on getting an awesome phone!

I was in BEST BUY today & naturally,I had to take a look @ the phone selection.

Gotta admit, being on T-MOBILE,I'm a bit envious of the blue model not being available. As you stated, the BLUE FINISH is most awesome, easily the nicest looking phone available.Pictures & videos do not do it a bit of justice.

Again,congrats!

Had the HTC One on Telus for 3 weeks now. Was an un-expected up-grade as I ran over my HTC Amaze. Love the phone so far, couldn't be happier. Almost went with S4 but my only reason would have been having the SD slot but I was pleased to find out 32 GB was plenty for me (couldn't remember how much space I had used on Amaze, had 32 GB card). I wanted black but the only store in my shithole town only had silver but it's ok, covered it in a otterbox commuter.

I wonder when retail price will drop.. probably not for a long time.

I want to buy this retail and go month to month on verizon but.. I could buy some pretty nice things with $600.

We'll see if the holidays brings a discount but I doubt it. More like Spring.
