Who knows?
I posted the link in this very thread to the TWITTER quote believing that was the final word on availability of the ONE on VZW.( Lesson learned ).

I wouldn't be surprised if the whole event was orchestrated to gauge public opinion for the ONE on BIG RED.

With this info in hand, perhaps VZW will begin to offer some serious discounts on the DNA to clear out inventory.Afterwords, they'll re-examine demand & make a decision to pick up the ONE as-is,or,once again, demand their own slightly modified DROIDIFIED version.

Who knows. HTC's twitter people might not be in the loop, and possibly mistook "no plans on Verizon at this time" for "Verizon's not getting it at all".

I'm hoping that Verizon gets this phone. Hopefully, either they're still in negotiations, or it has been decided that Verizon will carry it, but they just haven't announced anything yet. My RAZR is getting a little long in the tooth, and I really have no desire to get the SGS4, and nothing else on Verizon (except the potential X phone) really tickles my fancy right now.

What is the problem with carriers in the US?........i read these posts where people say certain carriers won't, certain carriers will, do they have like a bidding system to carry the phone?.....or do some carriers just not feature all phones?.....seems very confusing for a Limey.

It is a known thing that Camera Components are causing a hold up. HTC is no longer a tier One manufacturer to their suppliers because of canceled orders or lower expectations so they fall to a second or third position when it comes to having their parts orders fulfilled. I don't think HTC is necessarily being hush hush on purpose. I think they really just don't know when they will have all the kinks worked out so to speak. For me there is really no difference between getting the phone in April or May because I am getting it no matter what but am completely happy with my LTEvo in the meantime. This delay really does hurt HTC though because they are losing a ton of people who are on the fence between the One and the SG4. I will gladly wait till May for a premium product.

Each carrier here operates on their own radio standards, unlike most of the world.
Each model offered becomes a variation unique to its carrier.

While they're at it, the carriers tend to specify whatever changes they believe advantageous to them. Hardware, bloatware, name changes, carrier branding - even denial of HTCdev bootloader unlocking services.

The makers want as few changes as possible for production and marketing purposes, the carriers want as much as possible, and traditionally the makers don't just say no, for fear that the carrier won't take the product.

I have the only One X model in the world with an external sd card slot, kickstand and fundamentally different model name because of that.

Verizon is the most draconian, they've never allowed an HTC model name to escape unscathed. HTC isn't going for that with anyone. No one is fooled anymore.

That's why my first Verizon prediction here was that they'd get a Droid DNA update later this year as a One variant.

You're reading this correctly - at this time, the US is slated to receive 3 different versions of the One, all of which will be different than yours. Because of the radios.

PS - it also creates a unique suggested retail price issue. Because the models are different, they can each be given unique suggested manufacturer retail pricing, legally.

Yet another reason for no one announcing final prices yet, so far as I know.

It's commonly reported that the supply is the issue.

That story began in Taiwan 1) citing low yield issues on parts 2) by a financial analyst who's made his reputation accurately predicting iDevice trends.

Initial low yield rates are not uncommon, they're often expected.

A market analyst bending explanations in a legal fashion to support his own income is not unheard of either.

Now the story has changed from yield issues to supplier relationship issues.

I haven't tapped my sources yet because I don't want to stumble into something covered by an NDA that would muzzle me. However, if my magic 8 ball gets any ideas, I'll pass those along.

I will say what I've said before - Taiwan is an island and they know it. The semiconductor makers and product manufacturers have a common saying there - the island comes first.

I asked my magic 8 ball if the island would do whatever is necessary for HTC to succeed.

It said, all signs point to yes - so - we'll see.

Yea I was reading earlier today about the parts manufacturers not holding HTC in as high standards as in the past. Interesting to say the least. I mean didn't they think about these obstacles before going with an ultra pixel camera and not a traditional mega pixel camera?

I agree on the wait time frame, and it not being a good thing for HTC. As for me though, even though I'd like to run out and buy it right now, I honestly have all the time in the world, my nexus 4 is prepaid through T-mo and I have an upgrade for at&t just chillin waiting to get used...But I would of course rather have it sooner then later : )

I was getting the Tier one stuff from this article, which sites a One exec but who knows

HTC blames delay of One release on component shortages | PhoneDog

"According to unnamed HTC executives speaking to The Wall Street Journal, shipments of the One have been delayed due to shortages of parts for the unit's camera and metal body. "HTC has had difficulty in securing adequate camera components as it is no longer a tier-one customer," One exec said, explaining that the Taiwanese device maker is having a problem managing its parts suppliers since it has altered its order forecasts heavily and frequently after a drop in device shipments in 2012."

I know.

A few days ago, it wasn't the metal body, it was voice coils for the vibration motors.

Industrial security on the island is higher than many people realize or stop to think about.

I'm not impressed with unnamed sources. When a named suit says it, I'll buy it.

Meanwhile, although blogs are covering it as a swan song, Peter Chou said he'd step down if the One wasn't a success.

That's being interpreted as, wah wah I'm going to try so hard.

The proper way to interpret the Asian businessman saying that is, I'm so confident, I don't even need a fall guy.

Westerners simply do not get the Asian way of thinking or doing business.

And the WSJ has really fallen off since it was sold and became another Rupert Murdock mouthpiece, but that's definitely just my opinion.

Could there be supply issues?

Sure. Ok. Maybe.

Did the story have suspicious beginnings? I think so.

Has the story changed in less than a week? Yes.

Is being reported with definite bias and fundamental ignorance of the industry? Definitely.

Could be true.

I'll remain skeptical, something that rarely fails in this business.

As I posted in another thread. Up until today I wasn't sure whether I would go for the HTC One or the S4 as both suit my needs perfectly.

However, after checking out my viewing habits over the last few days I find that I have been spending 90% of my time in the HTC One forums on here, Android Central and XDA-Developers so I think that pretty much tells me all I need to know about which phone I will be getting...

My thoughts are this: as long as the delay isn't too lengthy, my wife and I are sticking with it. That said, however, my wife's digitizer is going out, and I don't know how healthy it will be (for me)to wait too long to replace the phone, rather the digitizer (again). I've thought about going ahead and getting the LTEVO, but I'm afraid there'll be no HTC or carrier support on it with a significant time left on contract.

I am patiently waiting for the One to be released for Sprint, and by patiently I mean checking these forums every hour, and e-mailing my sprint store guy every day.

I am in for two silvers, one for my and one for my fiancee, we have already ordered our accessories in anticipation for that oh so glorious day.
Also just found this

However, according to the latest reports coming from Merrill Lynch – one of the world’s largest brokerage firms – the Taiwanese manufacturer decided to secure the release date of four key markets – UK, Germany, Taiwan and US.

Although an exact release date has not been officially confirmed yet, Merrill has apparently sent a note to its clients saying that the HTC One will be available starting next week. Given the prestige of Merrill Lynch, we doubt the information provided is based on just a rumor

That is why Samsung is itself a manufacturer so it does not have to worry about component.

It's been said that their Snapdragon 600 choice is as much about supply and demand as it is LTE, maybe more so.

Expect to see Samsung memory and storage in the One, btw.

My local AT&T store rep said they are doing pre orders now. I'm on my way there to order it. He didn't know about availability however.

I'm on Verizon, so I'm just going to sit and cross my fingers for an announcement that definitively says The One is coming. I still have one last NE2 discount that I can use. I know I'll have to give up my unlimited, but I think I'll live.

I'm still hobbling along with my HTC Incredible. 3 years later, and she's still running fairly well.

I'd like to revise my answer from 'maybe' to 'yes' being that I am now the proud owner of the last HTC One found in a Phones4U store in West Sussex (according to the stock check the sales rep did for me in another store).

I'm on my way home with it now and will set it up once there. I expect i'll be gushing with happiness on the forums later on, please accept my apologies in advance!

(And it's my hundredth post too, which was nice)

Quick heads up for those in UK Southampton, just got back from Southampton and both P4U stores there had 1 unit each for retail, manager said they will be getting another 3 on Monday.

I voted no. I am with Verizon and I have had enough headaches with the Rezound. It hardly made it a year and was EOL. The DNA has already bit the bullet. I will be looking for something that doesn't go through batteries like nothing.

Can't wait for my one to turn up...

Literally checking the Handtec site and my emails every couple of hours in case they send out a update on when they are shipping...

Edit:
oh FFS, delayed shipments...

Handtec now apparently getting their 1st batch on the 3rd of April and every seller on amazon is now listing stock on the 12th April.

oh well what can you do...

I don't know yet. Put another way, if I do get a new phone in 2013 it will be the HTC One.

Who knows...Pretty much every part of the world has been beating the U.S. lately with launching devices in a timely fashion.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Canada beats the U.S. by a few weeks with both the S4 and One. I pretty much said all along that these phones will launch pretty much together in the States sometime in early May.

Default HTC ONE for T-MOBILE USA

FINALLY,a QUASI release date to look forward to in the States:

T-Mobile's HTC One, Galaxy S4 each will cost just $99 | Android Central

Sorry, nothing new here.At 1st look,I thought the 5/1 release date was for the ONE.
This was a secondary link from another article that I swore gave a date & now I can't find it.

Wouldn't the AT&T version work on T-MOBILE? I know that as both are GSM networks, one will work w/the other, but,I thought I read somewhere that all the bands that are on T-MOBILE will be accessible w/the AT&T version.

I'm gonna hold off judgement until some official word comes from T-MOBILE or SPRINT,not that I doubt the source for the above links.

And speaking of the T-MOBILE & SPRINT,this source is claiming that 8GB & 16GB varieties are headed to these two carriers:

AT&T says it has an 'exclusive' on the 64GB HTC One variant stateside - Pocket-lint

I put more stock in the former (32GB only) than I do the other mentioned capacities, but, stranger things have happened (NEXUS 4).

This would be insane if sprint/tmobile only had 8gb and 16gb options. This would make it an absolute no buy for me. At this point they may as well add sd card support if this is true. Anyway, only time will tell but I know one thing, HTC can't afford to be bs'ing around or it will be a very short 2013 for them.

Verizon had an exclusive on Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

Later, it appeared on Sprint.

No sensational blogosphere stories with this headline appeared -

"OMG, WE STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT WORD MEANS!"

Maybe the 64 GB job will only be available on AT&T.

I'm with you there... If Sprint doesn't have at least 32GB, I'll have to bail as well. I doubt there'll be SD support, tho that would be so cool! But I think that's just dreaming!

Hearing this preliminary report of the 64GB version being an ATT initial release exclusive has me absolutely frustrated.

Obviously like you others have said, we will have to wait and see how it shakes down. There is always the chance that the exclusivity is temporary for a time. We have seen that happen many times before. However I'm not willing to wait around for such a crappy reason as back door manufacturer/carrier dealings.

There is such a rift in the U.S. mobile market, between GSM and CDMA, I have some pointless small hope that there is also the chance that the ATT version is the GSM 64GB exclusive and that there might still be a CDMA 64GB Exclusive offered through Sprint. I know it is a long shot.

I'm with you Muffinman, a non 64GB version on Sprint is almost a no buy for me - and if they end up offering even lower storage capacities than 32GB like the rumor above states, then I take that as a real slap in the face. I was all but prepared to go all in and purchase the Black colored 64GB version off contract at a premium and give Sprint and HTC my sale, however they may have lost out now and encouraged me to stand pat or wait for the next devices.

Can someone across the pond, with an HTC One in hand, test something out for me please?
I'm wondering if Sense 5 supports USB Host Mode/USB On The Go (OTG) out of the box. This can be tested by plugging a USB device into the Micro USB "power" port of the HTC One and seeing if said device is recognized by the system. The prior generation of HTC devices do not support it, but it has been added through rooting and kernel flashing.
If the One will recognize a USB MicroSD card converter right out of the box, and interprets it as a flash drive correctly, I may be able to grudgingly accept a lower capacity storage HTC One.
