Thanks for the replies. Arranging the Apps manually is proving to be a tad harder than it appears! Never mind.

UPDATE: 20130511 @ 21.00HRS (GMT):

Managed to arrange them. It's easy when you get used to it! Once again, thanks for the replies and advice

Default HTC ONE/SENSE 5-BLINKFEED Auto-rotate

Is auto-rotate,from portrait-to-landscape & vice-versa an option on the SENSE 5 Desktop/Blinkfeed & the app drawer?

I'm hoping I'm just overlooking something,or is this SOP for SENSE?

THX.

It is just SOP for Sense. No screen rotation on Homescreen, Blinkfeed, or App Drawer for the stock Sense ROM. Always been the case without a Hardware Slideout Keyboard.

That's what I expected. Not having auto-rotate in the app drawer isn't too much of a disappointment, however, it'd be nice to have it on BLINKFEED & the desktop.

Default HTC ONE/SENSE 5 - BLINKFEED Auto Rotate

WOW, that's crazy that it's available w/the HD MEDIA LINK & not w/normal use. I think I'm going to drop by an AT&T store to see if the HTC FIRST is like this as well. Reason being, outside of the FACEBOOK integration, which can be totally disabled, the phone is supposed to closely resemble stock ANDROID, & I suspect it has auto-rotate w/the desktop.

If it has auto-rotate, I'll be making an inquiry as to why this is not on the ONE, especially when the capability is present w/the HD MEDIA LINK.

If we were discussing an obscure setting that rarely gets seen/used after initial phone set-up, that's one thing. However, this is front & center w/the U/I & gimping the screen orientation, for any reason, is pointless, especially if done just to distinguish the U/I from the competition.

I'm currently using a meld of BLINKFEED & HOLO LAUNCHER HD as my U/I, w/shortcuts integrated for smooth transition from one to the other. I'd probably forgo HOLO LAUNCHER HD if auto-rotate was integrated w/SENSE 5-BLINKFEED.

It is just not this way because HTC made it so. It has long been a gripe of Sense and no HTC phone (except ones with hardware keyboards) rotate the home screen; at least none that I have owned. I know in past models, ROMs have been developed in the user community that allow auto rotate of all home screens though.

Default HTC ONE/SENSE 5 - BLINKFEED Auto Rotate

To be fair to HTC, my G2X doesn't auto-rotate either & TBH, I can't remember if my other ANDROIDS (HUAWEI ASCEND/MOTOROLA PHOTON/SGS III) had auto-rotate on desktop mode, as the U/I was awful on all & I immediately loaded an aftermarket launcher on all of them.
HTC got one thing right that some of the others fail:the app drawer button located in the center of the dock. Sounds like a small thing, but, it went a long way in overlooking some of the other 'unique' features of SENSE 5.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great phone, wouldn't trade it for anything else available. Put auto-rotate & more grid options on the desktop/app drawer & you have a solid 10.

As SIKCLOWN mentioned, perhaps some of these features will be available on a SENSE ROM sometime soon. Perhaps sooner, as a leaked version of ANDROID 4.2.2 & SENSE 5.1 has been floating around.

not sure what you mean here... im unable to change anything in my launcher. if i slide out the internet icon,it wont let me remove or uninstall it,and if i drop it onto the homescreen,i just have one on the homescreen and one on the launcher

is it possible to change these? typically when i run sense,i use the sense launcher, etc. but not being able to move my launcher apps around is driving me nuts!

i personally am somewhat indifferent to blinkfeed. it is kinda neat, but i dont really check it that much.

i just skimmed looking for an answer to my launcher question.. this looks like an interesting thread, ill have to go back and read everything more carefully

It sounds like you're trying to change the apps/shortcuts on the dock.

You have to be in the app drawer to do this.

Yeah,it's a bit different from what most are used to.

I'm OK w/it,but,as soon as a stable SENSE ROM is available for the T-MOBILE version,I'll be giving it a try,for this & other options not available in the stock SENSE U/I.

Default HTC ONE BlinkFeed

Anyone currently experiencing issues w/BLINKFEED? I have all relevant apps enabled & I'm getting nothing but calendar & upcoming TV programming favorites, no news feeds.
Started experiencing issues about an hour ago.
Browser & all other data related apps are working, just not BLINKFEED.

THX!

Just refreshed Blink feed and it updated. I've got probably all the feeds enabled also.

Are you on wifi or cellular?

I'm on WI-FI ATM, it & data are working fine, currently using the PHANDROID app as we speak/post.

I refreshed numerous times & nothing. Toggled airplane mode, re-booted the phone, nothing.

EDIT/UPDATE:

After another re-boot & toggling of all topics/apps in BLINKFEED, it's working again. Guess it just needed to cough up the proverbial hairball.

Default Auto Rotate Blinkfeed News Threads

I don't know whether you guys have tried this: -

If you want to read a Blinkfeed story in landscape 'mode', slide all the way down the story and click on 'View original story'. You can then read the article in landscape 'mode'.

Apologies if this has already been posted on this thread or elsewhere.

Just load the widget on whichever page you choose.

Then, long-press on the widget & you'll see four blue lines appear, surrounding the widget.
This means the widget is ready for re-sizing.

Once you re-size the widget, you'll find the scrolling feature works.

Default No email widget?

Did I miss something or is there no email widget on this phone? There only seems to be the standard one with gmail. Coming over from the Galaxy S3.

I guess technically no, but you can just add the HTC email app to any of your screen which you can sync a few emails to.

You lost me. And the HTC Sense widget pinned to the left screen has no email, only calendar. I can't find any way to get Exchange mail appearing on a home screen.

Are you talking about a 1x1 button to open the email program, or a widget that is ~2x4 and displays maybe the first couple lines of a new email or something?

1. Go to the screen that you want your "mail" app.
2. Long press it
3. Go to the upper left hand side and press that for apps (the default is widgets)
4. Go through the app list and select the app "mail"
5. This will appear on your screen. This is the default HTC mail syncing app. It can sync any number of emails.

The whole point of my question in the first place was that there is a gmail widget that displays the newest couple of messages, and my Galaxy S3 had the same for Exchange. This seems to be missing from the HTC One. So I was asking about the second one. And I can't find an add-on widget in the Play Store either.

Default HTC ONE E-MAIL Widget

You'd think a widget for the stock e-mail would be a no-brainer,eh?

Seemed kinda odd to me as well, almost as odd as the method used to load up shortcuts/apps on the desktop dock.

Perhaps an e-mail widget, along w/some tweaking of the desktop/app drawer, are forthcoming in the rumored update to SENSE 5.

I like the idea of Blinkfeed, I just wish more ways to customize it. We have no local content from Finland in Blinkfeed, but possibility to give own RSS feed would solve that. Another thing is that I would like to be able to select fb/twitter contacts that I allow in my Blinkfeed. In Windows Phones, I was able to create "box" of contacts that I wanted and it showed latest actions from them - Blinkfeed should get that kind of functionality. Idea is good, but it's not as good as it could now.

Idea is good, but it's not as good as it could now.
I'm desperately holding out for that. Until then, I am using Nova Prime.

Default camera, app drawer, dock

Just noticed that on the HTC one, the camera app isn't in the app drawer but it is in the dock...and you can't remove it from the dock.

Where's the...sense...in that?

am I missing some really...intuitive...function/option?

Go to your app drawer, then click/drag/drop on the app in the dock that you want to remove from the dock.

I know,it's a bit different from most U/I's.

If you have the app on one of your homepages, then it will not appear in the app drawer.

If you move the camera to the task bar at the bottom, then go to the app drawer, you can move the camera back to the app drawer.

I think you can add a shortcut to it on the homepage by long pressing on the page, then change from Widgets to apps & I think there is camera icon there.

I hope this helps

if you have it on your dock, it won't show in the app drawer. In order to remove it from the dock, you have to open the app drawer then hold and drag it back in.

Default Deleting initial feeds screen

As you are all aware the HTC One's initial home screen is the 'feeds screen'
Is there anyway of removing this. I have now setup my own home screen but the 'feeds screen' still remains in the leftmost position

hi,

post #2 is made by EarlyMon. He asked HTC on their blog:

HTC Launches Blinkfeed with the new HTC One - HTC Blog

Quote:
Can we just turn it off? If not, what happens if I unselect everything in the menu?
Quote:
By default, Blinkfeed is the home screen. You do have the option to change the home screen to one of the other screens.
so there. Rooting will rid you of the screen or you can do what EM suggested or live with the blinkfeed page being there.

personally i adore binkfeed but i know may people do not.

Question Turn Off Wallpaper Screen?

I'd like to find a way to just turn my HTC One on and directly access the apps, bypassing any wallpaper lock screen. Is this possible?

It is possible:

SETTINGS > PERSONALIZE > LOCK SCREEN STYLE > & select No lock screen.

Default HTC Locations dropped from Sense 5.0

Although it was never going to be a deal breaker, I was just a tad disappointed when I discovered that the Locations/Footprints app had been dropped from Sense 5.0 - I had used it extensively on the Desire S, finding it easy to use and accurate.

The lack of it was certainly not going to put me off getting the One which I've now had for just over a week and loving it.

I have spoken to HTC Support to see whether the app was available to download if required and the answer was little more than a short and sweet 'No - not possible'. He did refer to rooting as a possible solution, in a vague sort of way, adding the obvious 'but that would affect the warranty'.

I wonder if anyone knows differently.......

As for BlinkFeed, I don't mind it at all, it's there and I will use it if it suits me, otherwise I'll leave it on the 'apps' setting tucked away on screen one out of sight out of mind - screen 2 is my home screen and by grouping apps and bookmarks into folders I currently have 36 apps and 35 bookmarks available with two taps plus the four apps in dock.

Screens 3,4 and 5 have various other folders, apps and widgets.

Four screens are plenty for me.

All in all, I find the HTC One very much like my Ducati - just as good to look at as it is to use!!

Just a quickie iro Blinkfeed.

At first, I thought of it as nothing more and nothing less than a typical HTC 'gimmick'.

However, now, I can't resist reading page after page of my favourite subjects before I retire at night.

Pleasant bedtime reading, if I haven't got anything 'better to do!'

They took Footprints away on new phones in the One X series last year. Sorry.

Hi, if you go into settings and tap 'Auto Refresh', it opens a selection box with two options, 'Using WiFi only' or 'Using Mobile data or WiFi'.

Thanks for responding EarlyMon. Having had the Desire S for two years and during that time read many forum comments about HTC Locations that conflict with mine, I think I may be in a minority of one.

I know that Locations is tied in, somehow, to Sense, because when my Desire S had the update to Sense 3.0, Locations included the Trip function, but the Locations app appears to be freestanding with it's own version number and listing in 'Manage apps'.

The HTC guy said 'it's no longer available' which sort of bears that out.

I did wonder if rooting the Desire S would give me access to the Locations apk, but the Desire S has now replaced my wife's aging TYTN, so it's more than my life's worth to risk ******* that up!!

So I would be interested to know from anybody with any rooted HTC device with Locations on board, whether the apk is accessible.

Having said all that I'm quite happily using Google Maps for navigating, and have downloaded the free Route 66 app and various maps for route checking.

Sense is, as you know, a launcher and an app collection. They're very heavily integrated - closely tied to one another. If you look in applications management, you'll find that Mail for example has its own revision number and so forth like Locations, but it's tied to the Sense version as well.

Under the hood, in files you don't see, is Sense's various glue layers (the framework) - software tying their apps together.

Last year's One X had USA and non-USA Sense versions thanks to a silly Apple lawsuit that they could only win in the USA. Our apps lost some features. Rooters quickly discovered that bringing in UK versions of mail and messaging apps didn't work - glue layers were different. Our development community had to decompile hidden files and tinker there in order to get the features working in the apps you can see.

My point -

After you're rooted and have a full nandroid backup as a safety net, drop me a line. I'll help you get to the old Locations app (without disturbing her Desire S) and walk you through laying it in as a system app, if you don't know how already. It's not difficult.

With a good backup, it's certainly worth a try. But if it's tied to its Sense framework, per usual, it's not going to work. If not tied in that way, you'll get lucky and Bob's your uncle.

Sense is actually put together in a very cool way, and it shows in its feature performance year after year.

Meanwhile, if you can find a good Play Store app with the features you need, your life is going to be a whole lot simpler.

Thank you EarlyMon, your offer is much appreciated and I may well take you up on it at some point in the future. I'm content to continue with using Google maps for navigation, and Route 66 for offline route checking (with the option of monthly or annual navigation license if necessary). As you point out, I suspect that even if I were able to load Locations onto my One it wouldn't run properly with Sense 5.0, and I certainly don't want to cause any sort of conflict on the One.

More to the point I'd have a hell of a job getting the Desire S in my hands long enough to do anything more than switch it on!!!
