Default Google Search on top of the screen

Morning my friends,
I wake up noticing the search field on top of my screen disappearing, how do I bring it back. I cannot search for any of my contacts, the search engine or even voice search from top of the screen.
Sent from my HTC One using Everything Android

Good guide has been put up over on XDA regarding Blinkfeed, it can now be moved to a different position in the screen order, (IF ROOTED).....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2333898
Just putting it out there on this thread because it concerns Blinkfeed, mods may want to move it to a Root thread.

Tested on mine........Blinkfeed screen is now the centre of 3 screens.

EDIT: Link to guide added to post as i forgot to add it originally

That's weird!

Have you tried to change 'Local Content' in the same way?. Out of the box mine was set to United Kingdom, as you would expect. If I tap on Local Content in settings it opens a list of alternative countries/regions. I've selected United States and can then select appropriate feeds eg Associated Press, and sure enough BlinkFeed reflects the change.

Nice one.

As BlinkFeed was the last thing I looked at when setting the device up, I'd already set Auto Sync for my emails so I never saw the BlinkFeed Auto Refresh box fully greyed out.

Default Transparent dock or notification bar

Anyone solve this yet? Either making dock transparent in sense, or notification bar transparent in alt launchers?

If your rooted Viper Rom has the transparent notification bar built in.

I'm talking without rooting.... I know you can have one OR the other, but seems like not both... Nova will make the dock transparent but loses the notification bar transparency.... Etc...

Jim,

similar issues have been reported in this thread.

trying a "battery pull" soft reset a time or two may help.

That said, I am having ZERO issues with BF. I have it set to refresh every 15 minutes and I have nearly every option checked. I am on wifi at the moment but i have had no issues on cellular.

Maybe try one or the other (wifi or cellular). uncheck and recheck the feeds you are subscribing to. could also be an issue in your area with the network if you are on celular.

Browser & all other data related apps are working, just not BLINKFEED.

THX!

After another re-boot & toggling of all topics/apps in BLINKFEED, it's working again. Guess it just needed to cough up the proverbial hairball.

Oh okay. Well I've done all that and as of now nothing has corrected it. I'm sure it will get fixed eventually

Also...it just keeps on trying to update non stop. This has to be killing my battery. There is no way that I can find to stop it

EDIT: I solved my issue. I had disabled the HTC News Plugin under All Apps. Enabled it and problem solved

As far as I can see, no. Just the Guardian and The Independent, both of which are very informative and 'professional'.

Why not d/l the BBC News app, like I did. It's not exactly what you want, however, it should suffice. You even have the option of breaking news alerts up where the battery icon is, which you can disable in options :-)

It depends on the country/region selected as Local Content in BlinkFeed settings, and which of the resulting options are selected in the tick boxes.

United Kingdom gives me Guardian, The Independent, Financial Times and Reuters.

United States gives me Huffington Post, AP, and Reuters.

Global English adds Euronews.

Other categories are country/region specific too.

Default Blinkfeed Refresh

Hi. Just got an HTC One yesterday and I'd like to change the amount of time it takes for Blinkfeed to refresh. It seems to refresh every hour or so. How can I set it so it refreshes every fifteen minutes or so? I've looked everywhere in settings and I can't seem to find anything.

Hi,

Per HTC support:

https://support.htc.com/en-us/010-HTC_One_ATT/020/Can_I_change_the_refresh_schedule_in_HTC_Blinkfeed %3F

Quote:
QUESTION:
Can I change the refresh schedule in HTC Blinkfeed?

ANSWER:
The phone automatically refreshes every 2 hours on mobile data network or hourly on Wi-Fi. While the phone is charging and connected to Wi-Fi, it refreshes every 15 minutes.

You can refresh HTC BlinkFeed anytime by pulling down the top of the screen. Pull down to refresh is now part of the many gestures supported on HTC Sense 5, such as the Mail app.

Well that stinks, that I can't change the refresh schedule myself. Any roms have this ability, should I root?

Seriously though, I think Blinkfeed is an extremely good idea that HTC developed, especially if you have free Wi-Fi! Cool!!! A shame it doesn't work correctly for all of us..........

Hi Rob, what country/region have you selected currently? If I change from UK to eg. India, I can then select appropriate local feeds eg. Hindustan Times, India Today or NDTV amongst others. When I go back out of settings those feeds will update with their respective current news items.

So assuming you have UK in your list if you select it you should have The Guardian, The Independent, Financial Times etc available, along with all the other feeds appropriate to the UK such as Motoring (in Lifestyle category) or Motor Sports (in Sports category).

The amount of topics available is a bit gobsmacking to say the least and I'm fast becoming a BlinkFeed addict!!

Default HTC One - Blink feed help

Hi

I just got my first smartphone and got my self a HTC One .... now I just need to understand how it wokrs

Any way I can chose my own news feed ?
Or can I remove all the news feeds from my main screen ?

Some how - and I do not know how - I manage to get news removed - so right now I "only" have the box for Twitter, Facebook ect.
But that take up the hole screen and I like them all removed to free up space for what I like to have on that screen ?
It that possible - and if so - how ?
Or can I at least chose my own URL's being the news I like to get ?

Hope someone can help

Thanks in advance.

Regards
Brian

Hi, you can find answers to most, if not all, of your questions earlier in this thread, but as the HTC One is your first smartphone, the best starting point is probably the User Guide. If your One hasn't already got it on board you can download it here :-

https://support.htc.com/en/005-HTC_One/user_guides

Hope this helps.

Question Is there a Timeriffic functionality build in(to Sense maybe)??

I'm coming from the Bionic using Timeriffic.

Hoping to get the HTC One when it finally makes it to Verizon this Thursday.

This might be more a general Android question than a HTC One, unless Sense has this, but, is there Timeriffic kind of functionality build into Sense, or HTC One, or will still have to use Timeriffic to have the phone automatically turn on and off phone functioins, such as wifi, vibrate, volume, adjust screen brightness, etc, according to a preset schedule??

I don't think that function is built into sense, so timeriffic or even tasker seems like your best bet

Default contact groups works differently in Sense?

I'd like to select which contact groups display on the phone, I don't want all of them to. I was able to on my old android device, but on this phone all I seem to be able to do is "delete" a group? and there are default groups that it won't let me delete (even though I don't want them....).

Am I missing something, or is the contacts manager on this phone really this poorly designed?

I usually don't bother w/this myself,as I have a frequent "FAVORITES" set-up.

However you can edit which contacts are displayed, whether by group/favorites/accounts attached to your phone,etc...

You can fine tune in a number of ways, but,to do so by groups only, for this particular discussion, try this:

Go to CONTACTS > GROUPS (scroll sideways left or right to find GROUPS).

Select the group that you want to edit/delete by long-pressing on the desired group. You should now have the option to edit or remove all contacts from the group.

A quick tap on the GROUP will bring up all members/items in the GROUP.
Long press on the contact you wish to edit/delete.

when you click on "Phonebook" in the upper left, the drop down shows all your accounts that are synced, by clicking the menu button to their side you can select their options, for a google account it lets you there select which groups you want to display.

You can access this from SETTINGS > ACCOUNTS & SYNC as well.

What phone would that be, you don't have your phone or carrier listed.

I've owned/used at least a half-dozen ANDROIDS & the ACCOUNTS/SYNC option(s) to choose to sync contacts go back as far as ANDROID 2.3,if not further, not to mention this one, the HTC ONE.

I think we have crossed wires. Accounts & Sync let's you choose to sync or not, but not which groups are displayed, which us what TinCanFury was after (and has found - that is a bit hidden IMO).

Default HTC One (Verizon) Mail widget?

Is there a Mail widget available for the HTC One or can I find one to sideload that will include emails from multiple email accounts? I had this on my prior HTC phone (DNA) but do not find it in the list of widgets on the One.

A couple of quick tips I picked up from the HTC Support site:
  • Double tap on the Home key provides a list of recent apps
  • You add a menu function with a long press of Home key through Settings-Display, gestures & buttons
Just received my Verizon version HTC One yesterday and liking it so far.

Default Blink Feed and Twitter

Hello: I just got the One for Verizon today (coming from the DNA) and am trying to set up Blink Feed. One problem I'm having is that I don't see an option for Twitter. Any ideas why it wouldn't be there? Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks, but that is the problem. I can find that tab but only have the filtering options: Facebook, LinkedIn, instagram, Flickr. For some reason, Twitter is not included.

Odd, mine showed it even before I had logged into my account via the Twitter app. I assume the app is installed and you've logged in? The only thing I can think is that it's not installed?

It is odd. I don't have Twitter "proper" itself but use Tweetcaster.

Also odd is the fact that when I go to Accounts & Sync (not for blinkfeed - for the entire phone) to "add accounts" I don't get an option for Twitter. I suspect that's related but have no idea what's causing it.

Thanks; that did it. Much obliged.

I'm still baffled as to why Twitter was not present by default as it has been with every other HTC phone I've owned.

No. It was straight out of the box. Minor problem but makes me wonder about future issues.

Sure it's not just VZW messing with the software?

Default Blinkfeed: Unsubscribed Facebook pages appear on Blinkfeed

Hey all, I'm new to the community and just got my HTC One. I love it. I really like the Blinkfeed feature, however there's one thing that I can't figure out. On my Facebook news feed I have all of pages that I "Like" unsubscribed, i.e. I don't get their updates spamming my news feed.

On the Blinkfeed however, all of these pages' updates and posts spam the feed. Is there anyway to prevent this? Or does Blinkfeed not block these posts?

Thanks
