As someone with an iPhone too, that is absolutely brilliant and will save a minor headache should I decide to go with this phone.

Top work.

I have actually swapped from an iPhone 5 to an HTC One and the sync from iPhone backup was pretty easy once I could get the crappy HTC Sync Manager program to stop crashing on me. I have got all my text messages, calendar appointments, pictures and contacts straight from my iPhone. A great feature that needs a better front end to make it even more effortless.

Accessing the iPhone's backup file? Nice. It would be great to transfer text messages over if I get the HTC One.

HTC has released a quick video guide for the iPhone -> HTC One transfer process. While it does not get very specific on the process of making an iPhone backup or Sync Manager versions and installation tips (which as we can see in this thread Sync Manager installation is not always a simple process) it does show the simple process and can give a glimpse of how it works before going through it.

(Note: there is a difference between HTC Sync and HTC Sync Manager)

Theirs an app in cydia called AppInfo. it has a feature to export via email a list of all your cydia tweaks/apps/repositories - apple apps - and music. pretty useful for setting up a new phone. I also found a few apps posted on another forum, iSyncr 4 and MyPhoneExplorer were both highly recommended replacements for the buggie HTC Sync manager.

Thanks. I'm moving from the iPhone 4S to the HTC One. I installed the HTC Sync Manager and it tried to import my 200 plus gigs of music and 800 gigs of other media. it crashed and reloaded about 20 times in the first hour before i could figure out how to stop it from auto importing everything. I immediately went searching for an alternate. My One won't be here for another week (AT&T 32gig) so I'm still reading alot and getting everything in order for the big move.

Theirs a lot to learn coming from an iPhone. I'm not totally new to android, I have the HP Touchpad that duel boots cynogenmod and Webos and have flashed a few nightlys and done some rooting of the Samsung Epic and Evo's back in the day.

You'll do great.

Honestly? The only thing that I've ever really enjoyed about HTC Sync is the drivers.

Check out Dropbox or the like for cloud-based syncing, or AirDroid for simple copy / paste to your phone via wifi. Good stuff.

speaking of dropbox.. I see that HTC Offers a 25gig account free for 2 years
how does this work if you have an existing account with just the normal free 2gigs (I currently have3.6gigs)? Will Dropbox just add the extra storage ? or will I have to start a new account to get the full 25 gigs? and yeah, I've been using Airdroid for a while on the touchpad it's pretty sweet but it does have its limits.

I think that they add it.

Same question came up last year, others had Dropbox already, I was new to it. If marctronixx or someone knows off the top of their head, great, otherwise I'll look up the answer thread on that later when I'm at my pc.

Welcome to the forums!

HTC Sync Manager is supposed to be Mac compatible with Intel based Mac systems, using MacOS 10.6 or higher. In the recent months/year HTC has put some concerted effort forth in becoming more compatible with Macs. Still not perfect from what I've read, but they are actively trying to become better.

Check out the link I provided in Post #8 (scroll up a ways, it is just a few posts above this one) it will serve you with a download link and further specification on PC and Mac requirements.

EarlyMon (see above for some of his posts), one of our great Moderators here on the forum, has an option of a Mac setup in his habitat I believe. He may be able to provide you with some great insight if you run into any Mac compatibility issues.

Thanks Pyro.

I do not have Office for Mac and don't plan on buying it. Looks like I'll have to find a PC somewhere.

Why would you need Office? I think HTC Sync Manager works without it.

I was reading this. Looks like it requires office for Mac. I dunno.

"Hardware Requirements (Macintosh):
Mac computer with an Intel processor
512MB of RAM or higher recommended
1024 x 768 or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
100 MB of available free hard disk space, and USB 2.0 is required

Software Requirements (Macintosh):
Mac OS X 10.6 or higher version
Microsoft Office for Mac 2011"

Those are separate. I think what it is saying is if you want to Sync your phone with Office then it has to be 2011. If you look at the Windows requirements they have several versions of Office listed. It is probably only for particular syncing like emails, documents, or calendar. If you go to the Sync Manager webpage it will sync media based on iTunes and move over all of your iPhone info (if you have an iPhone).

I was thinking the same thing. I think the Office Suite for Mac is only required for Outlook sync - Outlook Emails, Contacts, calendars, etc.
If you don't use Outlook then I don't think you need Office for Mac in order to utilize HTC Sync Manager. (Hopefully there is not some strange driver included with the Office Suite that is needed)

There are no strange drivers, the Mac Office for OS X has always included an Outlook hookup, that's all. (It's always been that way so far.)

OS X is a unix, so no drivers are used.

Yeah, I have a bad habit of mixing terminologies and my brain fails to think past simplest terminologies most of the time. You know what I mean though. Lets mix in some more terminologies. Instead of driver I could go with Shared Object, Dynamic Library, Framework, Extension, Stream, etc.

Your best bet is to just facepalm and walk away

Well after a few min with the HTC Sync Manager, I cannot find one single use for it. The AT&T ready2go site setup all my contacts from google and the music sync features in the sync manager are worthless. It's much easer to just copy files to the phone like a flash drive than to mess with the sync manager.

Edit: just gave it one more try and it actually pulled some info from an iphone backup and only crashed 2 times in the process... this is actually progress...

Exclamation Has anyone set up an icloud account on their HTC ONE?

I was just wondering if anyone was able to set up an icould account on their HTC One yet? I wanted to see if your contacts and calanders synced and transfered ok?

If so, do you have the settings. That would be a huge help. Thank you in advance.

I have to confess I used Google on my iPhone instead of iCloud. It syncs up with my HTC One perfectly.

enable the AT&T Address book that's what it does.
if you on another carrier I don't have a clue.

If so, do you have the settings. That would be a huge help. Thank you in advance.
Try these apps from the Play store. When I was using iCloud (have since moved everything over to Google for simplicity in switching between devices) I used both Smoothsync for Cloud Contacts and Calendar without any issue. The second set of apps (JB Workaround) should also be installed.

Well, I found sync manager to be basically useless. I used double twist and air sync to move songs and pics over from my MacBook. Worked very well.

Thanks for the follow up!
Your comments should hopefully be helpful to others who may be trying to make their new One/HTC/other device work well with their Apple products

Sometimes in the past when some of my friends with iPhones send normal text messages to me, their communications are flagged and delivered on my end as MMS messages that I have to use a data connection to download. (ATT -> Sprint network)

This happens because your iPhone was not disconnected for iMessage.
Quote:
1. On your old iphone go to "Settings"
2. Scroll down to "Messages"
3. When in the Messages menu, scroll down to "Receive At"
4. In the Recieve At menu, click on your apple ID and sign out. (your Apple ID being there is the problem).(Also uncheck your Phone number)
5. DONE
Quote:
If you don't have the old phone you can also try logging in on a friend's iPhone, going into their iMessages settings (the "Receive at" section, as mentioned above), logging them out, logging in with your old Apple ID you used to use for iMessages and then switch it off.
Obviously your friend will have to switch iMessages back on again to reverse the process, but this seemed to do the trick with us.
Those worked for me.

Default Transition from iPhone to HTC One questions

Dear community,

Last Friday I received my first android phone and was finally thrilled to be free of the apple system. Not that it was bad, it just felt like they were in control of my phone more than I was.

I am loving the level of things that can be done on Android and the HTC so far is working really well. I have a few questions/issues that I am trying to answer/solve and after a weekend of pottering about have come up short which I hope you could help me out with.

1) Mail:
I setup my google account and then my exchange account with my university account. Is there a way for the exchange account to browse the university directory when I am typing in a person's email/name to quickly find their address (and not just my people directory)? The iPhone seemed to do this naturally combining the contacts and email exchange details (or maybe just from the emails in my inbox).

2) Notifications and the lockscreen.
The HTC one has the stock lockscreens from HTC which are fine though limited. However there is one with notifications which is useful though highly uncustomisable. Is widgets/apps like Widget Lockscreen the only way forwards on this route?

3) Contacts
The people app seems a little clunky, I worked out how to choose my own launcher and such, is there a stock contacts and phone app from the android system and is it worth going to that one for a simpler more streamlined dial-phonebook?

Thank you in advance for any help

Default iPhone user moving to Android

Been lurking for a bit and I have today decided to make the jump. Been an iPhone user for every version from original to iphone5. Today I bought an HTC one.

I was a bit of a scaredy cat and didnt sell my iphone 5 just yet. Doing a 15 day trial per say on my best buy card As its 100% refundable within 15 days. So
with some caution I am going to put this through its passes and see how it works for me!

So with that in mind, is there any Inital welcome you have to get this app/launcher or guides for iphone users converting over to Android??

What I would like to know is if there is an equivalent to icloud for Android? A universal contacts/calendar that I can share with my wife who's still on iphone??

Appreciate any feedback and look forward to being a member of the site!

Welcome to the world of Android, and to Android Forums!

The following text, slightly edited, is from iCloud: How to set it up and what

"iCloud and its features are exclusive to iOS devices and Apple products, but a quick check on some key settings on an Android handset can enable similar features.

Head to the Settings application in your app drawer and look for the ‘Backup & Reset’ option in the menu. Here you’ll be able to enable options like ‘Back up my data’, ‘Backup account’ and ‘Automatic Restore’ all of which ensure that should your device be wiped or app corrupt, a version of these elements is backed up in the cloud.

Google accounts also come with a lot of remotely based services. Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Contacts all sit online making them easy to pull onto multiple devices simply by logging in with your Google account under the ‘Accounts’ section of the Settings app, they also automatically update across every associated device as well, including other smartphone and tablets.

Google offers its own in-house alternative to iCloud - Google Drive - which has 5GB storage. What Android offers users above Apple’s iCloud is the ability to write, edit, share and even collaborate with other users on one document, stored in the cloud. This can be accessed on any device with a browser or even via an Apple app.

Photos from your smartphone can be stored using or to Google+, which deposits photos in an online private album, unless you configure it otherwise. To enable this feature, simply open the Google+ app, tap the option button in the top left and select Settings, from here choose to switch ‘Instant Upload’ on.

Google offers offers customers a lot of free storage: Gmail has 10GB, Picasa 1GB, Google Drive 5GB, and Google+ is unlimited.

Without rooting (hacking) your Android device, it’s still difficult to synchronize game saves and apps, but there a vast number of other third-party solutions tailoring themselves to your needs such as TitaniumBackup often requiring rooting. As is often the case with Android, it’s a case of exploring Google Play and seeing what you can find."

Your a little late to the party but I'll be more than happy to help you along. First off you should know I came from the iPhone 3GS/4S for the last 4 years.
#1 make sure you turn off iMessage on the iPhone or you won't get any SMS txt
#2 Both HTC And Google will backup you data and settings. Look for HTC Backup and Settings/Accounts & Sync (I use Google)
#3 When in Google Play Store or Amazon App store
you can go to settings / My Apps /All ... They keep track of everything you have ever downloaded or purchased.
#4 I keep my contact list on Google and on the Phone and set them to auto Sync.
#5 Movies / Music are pretty much just like a flash drive,
in windows explorer you can just copy and paste to the HTC One /Internal Storage/Folders.
#6 Most of the apps you used on the iPhone are in the Play store also ( Pandora - TuneInradio - IMDB - Tumblr - your bank apps / credit cards ..etc etc their all their )
#7 In your Setting there's Transfer Content - iPhone is listed here

Enjoy your new Toy .. I love mine !!

Thanks to all above who responded. Great help! I played alot with it last night and got everything working. Though I still have one issue that I need fixed Hope someone can help.

#1 Exchange support- I know they have a built in setup for exchange but currently it gets all messages I can go to folders etc but I would like to have the app only sync certain folders inside the inbox say: Inbox/Brandon and Inbox/Troy for examples all the time push/pull and have a pop-up when those messages arrive (kinda like VIP's on iPhone) I don't want all messages beeping all day. But I need to know when one of these people email me ASAP.

Thanks

Yes sure the sync is fine but it really isn't teaching people what they need learn... What I mean is that if you use Google and /or outlook for your contacts and calendar and you make a habit of NOT keeping every one of your pictures on your phone then there really would never be a need for this program... Which is quite buggy if you ask me anyway... I used it initially and it did work but I felt better after a hard reset and clean wipe and then just downloading from Google...
I don't mean to be tinkling on everybody's party I just want my point to be that this is a very risky way to count on it for moving lots of personal important info.... Blah blah blah that's all

Thanks for listening

Default HTC One Sync Manager Crashes

Hi all,

Having nightmare time with my HTC One, moved from iPhone 4/iTunes which worked flawlessly.

HTC Sync Manager keeps crashing/closing with no error message. Get the splash screen, the main program, then finding media and then closes. When I attach the phone it loads then says the phone is locked (which it is not) and crashes (no error message).

I cannot sync any contacts, calanders, music - although it did briefly get some contacts over at one stage.

Support have no idea and say this has never happened before. They got me to uninstall all HTC elements and reinstall without any firewall, AV and offline (net). No luck.

I have Windows 7 64 bit with a quad core 8GB RAM.

Would really love to get this phone working. iTunes worked without any issues. I get the feeling HTC Sync Manager is not the best programmed in the world...

Thanks everyone.
