I got mine today. I'm not in a position to post any pics I've taken today, but I've found the camera to be excellent so far. The colors have been rich and deep, and the low light is far better than what I expected. Ready to put this bad boy to work on my instagram account lol @justindufrene

Any post processing on these? What's going on with Photo 2? The right side of the building and windmill/pump tower appear to be all bowed out... Optical illusion, Bad panorama stitching, or over active Optical Image Stabilization?

Thanks lol photography is a hobby of mine. I think the camera is really underrated from a lot of the reviews I watched prior to buying the phone.

No post processing at all on those, straight out of the camera.

I too noticed the issues with that photo and I think I am going to blame it on optical stabilization since it was just a point and shoot, no panorama involved.

Here are a few.

I notice that the camera's pictures aren't as saturated as other smartphones pics tend to be, that being said there are plenty of available photo-edit programs out there that can punch up any picture before you send it to a friend, etc.

No post-processing involved in either of these.

And here's an example of a semi-macro shot I took of a souvenir dish from my latest trip to Hawaii.

The first one was taken with 0 saturation, and the second was after I'd changed the saturation settings in the Camera to +1. (In camera mode, hit the ... logo, scroll to "Image Adjustments" and then slide the bar on Saturation over to +1)

At 0 Saturation

At +1 Saturation

I think the real life dish + golfball are somewhere in between the two shots, but the +1 Saturated sure looks prettier.

I want a preset that sits right in between those two (maybe a tiny contrast increase too). I've always thought the steps taken by the saturation settings were too great. They need to be broken down to smaller increments.

You can set custom presets if you didn't know. I made a custom black and white, the standard BnW edit is probably the worst looking BnW I've ever seen

Sorry, but on all my phones I have only been able to set saturation to whole numbers thus far. Are you saying the One lets you set saturation to, say...
0.5 or 0.7?

Well it doesn't have numbers to the side for an exact digit. But it's a slider you move up or down. If you long press a preset effect, it'll show custom and u just drag it over there. Then you can move everything to your liking.

Ultrapixel vs. Megapixel argument: My necessary first-hand attempt at testing this out!

A friend of mine owned the Samsung S2 which coincidentally has twice the number of Megapixels that the HTC One has, so we thought to try taking similar pictures and comparing Ultrapixel to Megapixel.

Here are some examples of pictures taken in different lighting conditions, with a zoomed-in pixel comparisons at the end.

-TEST 1-
  • Dark Room
  • Lighting Source: One Flashlight turned on, and pointing straight up at the ceiling (High-tech).

Samsung S2x:

Obviously not very good. Pixels are not even a consideration here, due to the lack of lighting/ability to compare.

HTC One:

It's not like it's level of detail is insanely high, but you can make out the clothes in the closet quite easily. Remember...this is in a completely dark room with a single ambient lighting source. Not bad, considering.

-TEST 2-
  • Normally lit room
  • Lighting Source: Ceiling Lamp Turned on
Samsung S2x:

Typical indoors camera phone shot. Red blanket on bed is washed out.

HTC One:

Colours are brighter, less pixelly on flat surfaces/edges, etc. (Note detail of glare on top of door, drywall seam on ceiling, grain in hardwood floors)

LETS GO IN FOR A CLOSER LOOK

Conclusion:

We've taken the HTC One's "4 Ultrapixel" camera and compared it directly with a Camera on another phone that has twice as many megapixels. In low-light conditions AND regular indoor conditions, the HTC One outperformed the S2x in image quality and colour representation quite impressively.

I took some photos with my One this weekend. I do notice some graininess and some over saturation of the red.

These might be from a zoe, can't tell, also not sure of the jpeg compression settings, or the upload settings???

Through a dirty windshield while driving.

Sno zoe, note the individual snow flakes (would probably be blurred with a normal cell phone camera)

First sequence shot. Note the overlapping arm... subject must walk faster!

Macro that I thought was in focus at the time... could do better now after some practice.

Anything interesting going on in the milling machine? Tooling for the chassis/housing for the next superphone perhaps?

BUMP.
Aren't you guys using the camera on your phone?

Humor me. I'm still debating the quality of photos between the One and the S4.

Please keep'm coming guys and gals! I found this thread on the second page... Not O.K.

Nice comparison, but the S2 is a really old phone. Regardless of it's megapixel count, it doesn't have the latest sensors or tech built in it to produce a better image even in daylight. Maybe to the S4 or even S3 would've been better as far as for a comparison.
