Good thinking. This must be a Google/Gmail thing?

As mentioned prior, I did not have the Custom option showing on my Evo 4G LTE running Sense 4+, Android 4.1.1, & People v4.5.468279. NO Google account configured.

I configured my Google account on this phone and went to add a contact in People. People now has my Gmail info in it and now when I set up a Contact I have the choice to set up a Phone only contact or a Google contact as well. When selecting Google contact I have the option of 'Custom' added to this list of types. I'm also able to set up mutliple 'Mobile' numbers for the same Contact.
Also note - on the computer when accessing Gmail and browsing the Contacts saved to it independent of the mobile device, the 'Custom' type is one of the options within. (haha, ninja'd by Marc )

Androidexpat, do you have a Google/Gmail account actively configured on your phone, and do you have People set up to display your Google contacts?

Yes, I think that's a good call on the contact type. All of mine are currently Google contacts. When I created a phone only contact just now, "custom" was not one of the options (and "radio" was - I've no idea what a radio number would be, but I see that one was also on the list that lacked custom above). So I reckon that's what's going on.

I was hoping we would have this "custom" option as part of the phone label features just like all other basic phones had way back since the basic Nokias even had. Even the older HTC P3600 had this feature when HTC was known as P3600 had this custom label option. I do not think that one now has to have to sync with Google or Facebook to have the "custom" label feature available on their smartphone.

Does anyone have this feature on their HTC ONE of which is not syncing with Google or Facebook?

I tried searching on this and ironically found a thread in my previous device's forum (HTC Desire) from 2010, describing exactly the same restriction. Which means I don't hold out much hope

I did wonder whether a third party contacts app might offer it, but couldn't find one which mentioned the feature. I tried one, but it just used the standard contact adding dialogue - which TBH is what I'd have done to maintain compatibility. So while there might be something out there, I've not been able to find it so far.

Thanks for the kind reply. I wonder why HTC removed this custom option from their contacts option and left it only available for their Google contacts. It should be a standard function/label for any smartphone. One less feature when compared to a current Samsung smartphone which does not help their sales numbers.

Well I guess the options they provide for Google contacts are determined by Google. Why they removed it for phone contacts I've no idea - or when (was it there on the Hero? The Dream? Those were before my time).

Default Removing date & time on lockscreen

Hi boffins

After upgrading to 4.2.2 I want to use Dashclock as a lockscreen widget, but I don't want to have two clocks on my lockscreen. Any ideas on how to turn the default date and time off?

thanks

while not on 4.2.2 yet myself, you should be able to turn off the one you don't want by going to settings > personalize > Lock screen style then turn off the one there that is selected, leaving the one you desire enabled.

No that doesn't make a difference - to have dashclock you need to activate the 'widget' lockscreen but that has the date & time on it and i can't turn it off....

Default New to Android (from iOS)

Hello Everybody !

I've long been an iOS fan for many years and am new to Android and the HTC One.

Since I've bought it, I would like the experienced people here on this forum to help me out with some issues.

1) I like the multitasking bar as I believe its fairly efficient at getting things done and it provides a much better experience than the multitasking on iOS 6 or even 7. My only qualm is that is their any way that I can kill all running apps at once ?! The Samsung Galaxy S4 has a kill all button in its multitasking bar so I was wondering is their HTC equivalent ?!

2) My notification drawer is fairly empty, I was wondering if anyone would be as kind as to suggest some good apps / widgets ?!

Thank You and I appreciate anyone taking their time to help me !

To help with your questions, I can honestly say, I hadn't even thought to look for such an option. One of my older phones had it, but really, I don't see a need for it. The OS does a good enough job killing apps on an as-needed basis. Unless you are just talking about like when you have a ton of notifications up there, like for completed downloads, new mail notifications, etc. Pretty sure if you click the little X on the pulldown for the notification bar, that it will delete all of the notifications. It doesn't kill the apps that are running though.

Finally, as far as apps/widgets to recommend... that is a tough one. I use a lot at different times. Actually, on my One, I haven't really put a ton of widgets on, just apps. I of course have to have my PowerAmp widget for playing my music. I use the GSAM battery widget, and also use the toggle widgets from Beautiful Widgets for things like Brightness, turning the Wifi, bluetooth and Mobile data on and off, and also to replace the clock/weather. Haven't had a need for a ton of widgets yet.

Default HTC One having problems: Help

I have a new HTC One. First I purchased one second hand and had the same issues, put it down to being used,it was also the X model. Here are the problems. I have to push the home button sometimes up to three times when in a app, so its slow to respond. It is refusing to send picture messages sometimes, at the moment two are stuck in limbo. It won't open a picture message sent too me. Anyone have any suggestions. I rang HTC no help there. I previously had a Velocity so I am not new to the HTC format. I judge it worse than the Velocity.

Try putting 2 apps on the desktop, then dragging one on top of the other.

On the phone, you can use an app like ES File Explorer to manage/create folders/files.

On your computer you can use HTC Sync Manager to do the same.

Default Custom keyboard question.

So, I use thumb keyboard, but one major issue I have with using it on my Samsung devices (as well as my mom and sisters devices) is whenever there is a reboot, I need to change the default from samsungs joke of a keyboard back to thumb keyboard.

My question is, does HTC do this too? If you use swift key or thumb keyboard or something on your One, do you need to change it after a reboot?

I've had no problems w/SWIFT KEY or the stock ANDROID keyboard (not SENSE) remaining the default keyboard, even after a re-boot.

You may want to contact the developer of THUMB KEYBOARD or check the website for FAQ & known bugs w/the app:

no,, this is not an issue on the ONE. I use swiftkey exclusively and I can change keyboards art will with no need to reenable back to my preferred keyboard after a reboot.

Default htc one menu/ back buttons not lighting up.

Hi all

Just got the HTC one the other day. I have the menu and back buttons no lighting up all the time. My wife's one is also doing the same.

I have read if the 2 sensors on the top left of the phone are covered it lights them up.
Which it did........

Is there a setup function to activate to keep on? Calibration???

Software or hardware problem?

Thanks in advance

is this correct?

Sometimes not lighting up if in a dark room. If I cover the 2 sensors tip left it usually puts them on. Just wondering if there is a setting to keep them on when the screen is activated.

I don't believe there is. My understanding is they're designed to turn on when it's dark enough that you can't see them, but the lights stay off otherwise.

Default Vibrate or notification sound at plug in for charge

I've made a recent switch from iPhone to HTC one. In the old phone, every time the phone is plugged in for charging, it vibrates or give off a notification sound. The same thing doesn't happen for HTC ONE. Is there an app or someway of setting which I could make it happen? Thanks

there is no user setting on the stock phone that does this.

there may be a 3rd party app out there.

feel free to post in the app section of this site posing that question and yyou should get some more responses.

When you plug in your phone why not just look for the red charging light located in the top speaker grill? For everyday use and even in the dark it's the best tool in the world.

The app called Battery Notifier Pro BT will vibrate and provide you with a notification of your choosing. You may have to purchase the paid version for that specific setting to be unlocked. Try out the free version but if that doesn't include those settings the version you must pay for will have them.

Default HTC Emoji?

Does the HTC One come with any "other" animated emoji's? I use "CHOMP" for the emoji's now, but was wondering if the stock phone has some (other than holding down the "z" button).

hi,

in the stock config, you will have to resort to third party options for more emoji's.

Don't know what you mean by holding down the z button but emoji's are standard with the HTC messaging app. Are you a guy or girl? Just asking because I thought only females send/ use emoji's.

Can you move Google play purchased music to the native music app? I don't like the idea of having to search two separate sources for my music.

Thanks for advice.

I've had my HTC one for about a month and now notice green squares appearing at top of screen when surfing the web. Here is a screen shot.

Owned android phones for years and have never seen this before. Can anyone tell me what it is.

I have been using an app called Cloud Music Importer by Sapien Mobile. It allows you to take all, or any of your Google Play music, and move it to a regular location with regular file names so you can use it with whatever music app you want. I started using it way back with my Evo 3D. Back then, the program worked, but wasn't exactly user friendly, or fast. Since then, they have automated a ton of the process, and made it more configurable. Now it automatrically syncs any of my Google Play Music if I mark it to make available offline in Google Music. I don't remember how much the app is no. Back when I bought it, it was like $1.29. I know the price has gone up since then, but it is so worth it.

There may be other apps to do the same thing, but since this one does everything I want, I never searched further. Of course, you can do the same thing the app does, without the app, it is just more of a pain. You have to make the songs available offline, then use a file manager to browse out to the temporary location it puts them in, copy the MP3s off somewhere else, then play them to find out what each one is, so you can rename it from the random number filename it has. Or at least, that is how the process USED to work. Again, since I have had this program for so long, I haven't had to look into the process further.

Or maybe I am misunderstanding your question. That is always a possibility with me.

Looks like the ... for the settings. What web browser are you using? Do you have any add-ons installed for the browser? I have never seen that with the stock browser. I generally use Dolphin as my browser, and haven't seen that. I have only used Chrome, Opera and Firefox a little bit, but don't recall seeing that in those browsers either.

Almost looks like you have something that allows pop-out browsing. Like, allowing you to have a YouTube video playing on top of the screen while you browse another page. Or something LIKE that. I only say that, because the positioning of it seems really odd to be a regular feature of a browser.

Can you tap on the dots? I mean, are they functional, or just annoying bits on the screen?

Does it always appear on the same site/sites? Could be a formatting issue with the site that causes those to pop up when you zoom in.

We have a free app for our forum members - Check out "Android Forums"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tapatalk.androidforumscom

It's based on the paid Tapatalk app. You might want to check with mods over on that forum to see if they offer something similar.

For sites you visit a lot, these sort of apps are mighty handy.

Apparently, Google has removed cloud music importer and similar apps from the play store. I've gone through astro searching for the hidden files without luck.

I won't be buying any more music from Google.

Thanks for the help.

This is the second time their app has been pulled. I didn't realize it was gone. I'll email the dev and see what's up with it. Tomorrow I will find the instructions for doing it manually. Unless someone here has the instructions handy.

Actually, I got a response from the dev. This time they pulled it themselves. Google made a change that broke their app. They are working on a fix and will put it back out when they can.

hello and welcome.

did you enter these dates or are they phantom entries?

you can remove these from your google calendar from the computer more easily if these are the same entry and they were entered as "recurring"...

Default Turning predictive text off!

I have just got a HTC One and so far i really like it, but it's really bugging me that i can't seem to turn predictive text off. I've always hated it and i really don't want it turned on as it takes me twice as long to type anything! But, after a bit of digging around, i found my way into Settings -> Language and Keyboard -> HTC Sense Input -> Advanced, and in there, there is a section entitled "Prediction Preference" with 2 options: the top one is, "Word Prediction: Suggestion options for current word while typing," which is checked by default and greyed out so you can't uncheck it, and below that, "Next Word Prediction: Suggestion options for the next word while typing," which is currently unchecked. Please tell me this doesn't mean there's no way of turning predictive text off, permanently?!

hello.

in keyboard settings for the stock htc keyboard, uncheck "Trace keyboard" first. then go into "advanced" and you are then able to uncheck both options.

Default New HTC One user. Questions

Hi guys

I've just got a htc one yesterday and I'm having a few of problems. They seem like simple problems but I've been looking on the Internet and can't seem to find any answers so I thought I'd ask here.

The three problems I'm having are is there an email widget that allows you to see a few emails without clicking into it? I can see one for gmail but it doesn't seem to work as I use hotmail. I've just been using the mail app but this just means I have to open it to see any emails. If there isn't a widget does anyone know of any good ones I could download?

Secondly I save my contacts on my sim and phone in case one breaks I don't loose all my contacts and want to select to only show say phone contacts so they're not all duplicated but I can't find the option. I'm guessing it must be there because I've been doing this on phones for as long as I can remember.

Lastly when I text I like the fact it shows up recommended words but if the recommended words aren't correct and I click space it still chooses a recommended word so I have to go back and retype. I'm hoping there's an option like on Samsung galaxy where if I don't click the recommended word it just leaves the word as I typed it. If this Isn't an option does anyone know any keyboards I can download that might do this?

This seems to have turned into quite a long post but I'd be grateful if anyone can help on any of these issues

Cheers

Andrew
