If you don't mind the annoyance, set the Secured Lock Time to something like 30 seconds and require a PIN to unlock.

Thanks for the suggestions. I set up a PIN. Under Lock phone after, my choices were Immediately, 3, 5, 10, and 15. I don't see where you can put in a custom lock time, like 30 seconds.

set it to "immediately" and it locks after the screen is turned off. i dont recall a "Custom" setting for this in the stock config.

if you are in camera mode, you should see zoe up top in the middle of the screen. if its blue, just tap it and it should change to white text. this disables zoe.

That worked, but I don't remember the icon always being there. Thanks.

Default Call logs

I thought that all call logs were stored until deleted. I went back 2 months looking for a number that I had called and for a call that I had received only to find out that in call logs it only went back a certain number of days. Anyone here know a way around this where one can look back 2-4 months in call records/logs on the phone?

Many thanks

Since they're overwritten, no. The worst part is that there's no way to write the log out to save it. It's almost as if the log was added as an after-no-thought.

Check out "CallTrack"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.calltrack

There's an app for most anything.

Any ideas?

unknown to you perhaps but its the NFC icon. this is not a product of the device, its within the OS, so this appears on other handsets also.

if you turn off NFC, this icon goes away.

Hi, welcome to Android Forums.

From your description I think that is the NFC (Near Field Communication) function. Mine defaulted to 'on' after one of the software updates.

Go into Settings (Wireless and Networks) - More - NFC, and you'll find an 'On/Off' toggle top right.

Default LED notifications

Hi. I recently upgraded to the HTC One; I've had it for a few days. Today, I noticed that the LED notifications only flashes when my screen is locked. It's not flashing on home screen or if using apps. I'm not sure if this is suppose to do this or not.

P.S. I went from a phone that didn't have a notification flash, so this is new to me.

I have the Sprint HTC ONE and it flashes with the screen on.
Well until I rooted and turned them off.
That blinking drives me crazy.

Default badges

Thinking of getting the HTC One(M7), but i need to know if the stock OS offers badges for the email and msg apps. This is important to me. I see the phone has a little green LED built into the speaker grill. Will that blink when i get an email or text msg? Thanks for any help.

Yes the stock launcher offers badges for email and SMS. The led is red/green/amber multicolor and by default it will flash with new notifications, although you can turn that off in settings.

Thanks. I'm guessing that you can't assign one of the LED colors to email, and one to msg. Lightflow doesn't work well with HTC, so rooting the phone could be a solution.

No, most notifications will show up green. I had one app that did red ones but it was a task manager app

Question New user. General help requested.

Hi everyone

I just bought an HTC One and I have several questions, hope you can help me answering them.
I would REALLY appreciate if you could help me (: no matter if you answer only one question

Here's the list:
  • I have Android 4.2.2 and I checked for software update and it said that it's up to date, but HTC's webpage says that there's already a 4.4 version for my phone, why's this?
  • When I pull down the notification's bar and switch to the dashboard, the transition that occurs it's kinda weird, it doesn't look smooth, is that normal?
  • Can i disable BlinkFeed?
  • Other apps and functions lag too (e.g. Facebook app and when swiftkey keyboard expands)
  • I don't want my home screen to have several "tabs", I just want one, is this possible?
  • What's the option of Beats Audio that appears on settings? What's that for? Louder speakers?
  • My general experience with this phone is kinda disappointing, I thought that it was going to be a bit faster/smoother, do you think that's because of the software?
Thanks for reading and for the help!
I don't know if this helps, but i'm from Mexico, I don't know if that matters.

Not sure why pull down isn't smooth.
Maybe ram issue, too many processes.

Grab a custom rom to disable blinkfeed.
My device has been stolen so I haven't tested stock kitkat.

Facebook update is a pita.

Delete home tabs you don't want.

Beats audio makes your speakers boom.

The device is smooth and fast from my experience.

As I type this The update for KitKat 4.4.3 and Sense 6 are installing. FIRST item on the change list is improved power management. OH PLEASE let it be so. I love this phone in so many ways, but 4.4.2 killed it for battery life - and yes, I've tried EVERYTHING.

Fingers crossed

Default Text tone question

Is there a way to set a specific text tone to a contact... a silent tone? I have a few contacts and I get annoyed when they text so is there a way to have their text tone be silent... I'm a former IPhone user and they had a feature where you can go to the persons contact and change the text tone to none... can this be done on the HTC ONE as well, if so how?

-Thanks

I haven't seen that exactly but there are similar that you can try for free - silence everyone except those on the "ok" list.

Search "silent notification" in the Play Store, see if any are appealing enough to try.

Hope this helps, welcome to the forums!

Hi,

I have two questions, one about going abroad and one about using an old device.

My current device is an HTC One, doing the OTA update right now.
My previous device is a Motorola Droid Bionic.

I'm planning to travel to Italy soon, and would like to have my phone to use as a GPS and to post pictures. However, I don't want to pay exorbitant fees for roaming. Is disabling mobile data and international roaming enough to stop any charges?

My other question also relates to my trip. I would like to use my old phone to save audio files to listen to during a tour. However, I just reset to factory settings, and now my phone is telling me that I have a new number and the phone is ready to be activated. I don't want to activate my old phone - is there a way to avoid it?

Thanks for any help!

If you're wanting to use your phone just as a camera and personal data assistant, and no phone calling, you ought to be able to turn on airplane mode and then turn on WiFi and GPS.

That works fine on my HTC but I'm running an older one so please test that out on yours before you go if that interests you. If you're not planning on calling, that approach has the added benefit of saving your battery life.

As for your Bionic, I'm stumped, sorry. Typically a factory data reset leaves you at the setup wizard the first time in and just hitting the home button can skip it. See if you can get to the settings and put it in airplane mode to get it off of the cellular network and reboot (it ought to stay in airplane mode) and see if that makes it shut up. If that doesn't work, maybe someone else will know.

Welcome to the forums!

the latest update may have fixed this, haven't checked, but you may want to check before you rely on this.

Default voice texting

When texting I used to be able to click on the microphone icon on the keyboard and speak my message and it would be written and I would send it.
Now the microphone is there, but I cannot get it to work. Am I missing something in settings.
Please forgive my ignorance.

Hi, as far as I'm aware there isn't anything in Settings to enable/disable voice typing. It works ok on my M7, although when I'm using the qwerty keyboard, which is almost always the microphone shares the 'full stop' soft key and requires a 'long press' to invoke. (If I select 'phone' keyboard in Settings the microphone has a dedicated soft key which responds to a 'tap')

You should also get a keyboard icon in the notification bar when you are in 'text input' mode. If you pull down the bar you will see 'Choose input method' - tapping that will give a 'Google voice typing' option.

Hope this helps.

When you open the contact the blank area where their picture would be will have an icon for the camera. click that and it will enable you to select a picture from different sources. I believe the picture has to be on the phone already but I could be wrong.

Question Audio files/music

Hi everyone... I receive voicemails for work through email- when I click on the file it downloads the audio into my music file...so when I'm playing music on my phone...random work voicemails are played....can someone please tell me how I can change this? It has drove me insane trying to figure it out.

Thank you soo much in advance.

just to be clear, these voicemails are not playing AT THE SAME TIME as other songs are being played correct?

and you are using the stock htc music player?

So your issue is your voicemails are being mixed in with your REAL sound files yes?

so if I am correct on my ASSumption, you will need to move the voicemails to a separate folder YOU create (you will need to plug up your phone to a computer using USB) and label it "voicemails" or somesuch. you will then HIDE the file by putting a period on the file. this "period" (.) will make the folder hidden from the player.

food for thought:

Hide Folders in Gallery

The voicemails are not being played at the same time.

Yes, I'm using stock music player.

Yes, they are mixed all through my real music files.

Is there by chance a thread on how to make this new file and stuff as I'm kinda dumb when it comes to this stuff, but can follow instructions well.

Thanks for your reply and sorry I put the question in the wrong place.

Hi,

I posted a link that will help.

There are videos on YouTube that will visually show you.

To get started, you need to USB your phone to a computer
A hard drive icon should populate as a list of drives
Get in there and add a folder call it ".nomedia" and include the (.) as denoted in quotes to your storage card

Drag /drop files there

More info at the above link or check YouTube for visuals.

What can I search for on youtube to watch the video? That may help me more than bugging you.

How do I hide files (pics and music) from gallery, but Droid have access?

You can also type this in your search engine :

"hide audio files htc site:androidforums.com" without quotes.

Just use the same search info for YouTube. :-)

There maybe an app in the app store also :-)

Notsure lock screen was not showing up for a brief period of time

I also just remembered, the phone usually has a PIN lock on it. Yesterday for a certain period of time, before I changed the PIN myself, the lock screen no longer presented with the PIN number... just strange to the home screen.

ok, so is it back to showing the lock screen?

you were not hacked. these phones are computers and from time to time glitches can occur just like on your laptop or desktop. probably a simple soft boot of the OS will fix any anomaly.

Hi... can you see the whole OP I submitted about the getting really hot when not being used, making weird phone calls to contacts without me doing it etc... I can't find it since I edited it (the part about the lock screen). I apologise if this is just me being stupid and you guys can see it but I can't find the OP...

New development as well, I told my boyfriend about it and he's just installed this call spy software on it, which has alerted me to someone 'eavesdropping' on my calls on two occasions to different contacts.

again, i think you are going way overboard with this.

just some questions to ask:

are you rooted? ask your mate this question if you dont know

you are in the UK. what carrier?

how long have you had the phone? is it a new purchase? used/second hand? refurb from
an insurance claim? sold by a local third party?

have you ever experienced this before?

did this happen just prior to you perhaps installing an app? uninstalling an app?

can you reproduce the no lock screen issue again and again or is it intermittent or is it no longer happening?

again i highly doubt you are being spied on or hacked. its more than likely a glitch, it could be an app you installed that takes over the lock screen, or any number of things. its hard to diagnose these types of gremlins over the internet.

worse case you can reset your device to factory and that will put your mind back at ease, however installing "eavesdropping" apps is not the cure.

What is it? Very annoining.
The phone is new and it started doing this right from the benning.
So no-one ever encountered this problem?
it went away for a week, and came back. Always it asks 3 times after any phone call: "Invalid Input" OK Cancel.
"Invalid Input" OK Cancel.
"Invalid Input" OK Cancel.

In case I don't play with it 3 times either cancel or OK, it won't allow me respond to an incoming call.

The battery life is a real suck! After Nokia e90 this HTC is the purest shti to someone who tries to work using telephone.

Touchscreen jams once and a while so nothing happens.

The predictive text input is THE S H I T of all modern times! It is disabled, and the f*ck still insert its idiotic words to any application that requires typing.
There is NO WAY to get rid of the prediction shit.

I really really really miss the times when Symbian was the king, and phones had batteries lasting a full work day, or even 2, and they had REAL buttons to type a message in a few seconds; a message that contained the words YOU wished to say, and not the words the shit itself decided to enter.

No, never heard of this one. Can't find other examples with a web search either. Really don't know what this is.

Those old Nokias had battery life that exceeds any modern smartphone. But what sort of battery life are you getting, and for what sort of usage (time with screen on, time in call, what you do when the screen is on, what apps do you have syncing in the background and how often)? It may be that there are things you can do to improve battery life (obvious ones include not letting every app poll for updates every few minutes, for example). A battery monitor like GSam Battery Monitor can help identify what is using the power.

Again, something I've never experienced. Are you running anything in particular when it happens?

Really? I just tried switching to the stock HTC keyboard on mine (what I guess you are using) and disabling predictions, and they were disabled. No problem. Are you using the "trace keyboard"? I believe that doesn't let you turn off predictions (it is hard to see how swiping around rather than pressing keys would work without prediction), so if you have that enabled you need to turn it off.

Otherwise what software version are you running, and what keyboard are you using?

You can install other keyboards, and maybe a different one will suit you better.

Nothing to be done about the buttons, unless you buy a Blackberry. In the early days a number of manufacturers, including HTC, made Android handsets with keyboards. The lack of them now is because there wasn't enough demand for them to be profitable (which is no consolation if you are one of those who wants one - there are a few trends in current phones which I dislike too). Maybe fashions will change, but right now nobody is making them.

But you have enough odd things going on (the "invalid input" thing, the touchscreen freezes, and maybe the keyboard predictions) that I wonder whether it's worth considering a factory reset (after backing up important data)? If the problems are due to something you installed, a messed-up setting or a corrupted cache after a software update that would fix it, though it's a scattergun rather than a surgical solution, and it's not a guaranteed fix since we don't know the causes.

Default Memory/space for text messages

I don't know a whole lot about space in these phones. I'm curious as to how much space text messages take up. I try to clear my text message inbox every month or so. Am I wasting my time or does that speed up the phone.

text (sms) messages are small but if you have a million of them they will impact your memory.

there is a setting to delete old messages after X amount of days or so, so you can set that up.

you can keep hundreds of messages and you will be good, but they DO take up SOME memory. id rather remove unimportant programs im not using.

also try CCleaner for Android. nice little app. also for the desktop.

Default App drawer custom settings lost

All of a sudden when I open the app drawer on "custom" it's just all my apps listed alphabetically! I used to have several organized folders and stuff. Has anyone had this problem, is there a way to get them back? No idea when my last backup was.

If there's no getting them back and I need to reconstruct my folders, is there a desktop solution for that or do I just have to hold and drag and hold and drag?
