Something I did notice actually this morning, is if I swipe down the status bar and choose something else, like an email, it doesn't clear. So it does only happen when unlocking the phone. But as I said I'll check that tonight. It makes sense.

Default Alarm when off?

Is there a way to have the alarm go off when the phone is completely shut down (powered off, but with power supplied)?

No. The phone is off so it's not going to do anything.

I have 2 alarms a day set for meds and both alarms were on, I had the phone shut off at work,FRA thing and my evening alarm starts going off. I pulled my phone out and dismissed the alarm and then got a popup on the home screen. It said power off or leave on but in airplane mode or leave on w/o airplane mode. I have had a lot of phones but never had this, well maybe an old BB, but not any recent smartphones.

I just set an alarm to go off every day and powered off the phone. I then watched the phone power its self on, the alarm go off then get the prompts after unlocking it. Nice to power off at night to charge and still have your alarm wake you in the morn. The phone powered on in airplane mode. The phone was not plugged in.

Exact same thing I was going to ask. We know that with fast boot disabled the phone is shutdown more completely and I suspect it won't wake to sound the alarm. With Fast boot ON though It wouldn't be un-heard of if the phone could wake itself to sound the timed alarm (though I've never really heard anyone mention it until now).

fast boot off, no power plugged in.. nothing..
Fast boot off, charger plugged in.. nothing..

Fast boot ON, charger plugged in.. nothing, alarm set for 11:14, however, when i turned the phone on.. at 11:15 the alarm started..

Same thing with phone unplugged

Question Format USB?

How do you format a USB drive with 4.1.2? Just got a micro drive for my HTC One and wanted to format it from the phone. It allows you to unmount it but they've taken away the format ability. Where did they move it to?

The 4.2.2 update does let you show a % in the status bar - in addition to, rather than in place of, the normal battery icon.

With root you have more options, but you can now do this without (as long as you've received the update).

Not sure if it's a Samsung thing, but both my devices can do it on 4.1.2

Just tried this and my One powers up (in flight mode), sounds the HTC chime then sounds the alarm. When the alarm is dismissed I get three options :-

Power off
Leave flight mode on
Take flight mode off

This happens with charger connected and unconnected and fastboot on or off. With fastboot on, the alarm sounds almost immediately after the HTC chime, with fastboot off there is a delay of about 15 seconds.

It varies from OEM skin to OEM skin. Hadron's analysis of how it works for HTC is spot on (unfortunately for those still on 4.1)

It turns off all radios so the phone can't make/accept calls, & access the internet over 3G or WiFi (although the WiFi can turned on independently if needed).

Default New HTC One user (coming from iPhone)

Could someone please help me out? I got my HTC one 2 days ago and I've been having some issues with it. I'm pretty tech savvy, but I had an iPhone 4 before and I've never had an android till now. I'm running the latest os, not sure what it's called. And I'm on the apex launcher which I suck at customizing. So my problem are:

1. There's no advanced settings! On my friends androids, they all have a ton of settings they can change but I can't even seem to change the display timeout! I don't want to clutter the phone with plug-ins or apps to change some settings so if there was a nice universal app that someone could show me that would be great.

2. The volume is way too loud. Even on the lowest level, my parents can still hear it from the next room at night. Is there a way to make it go below the standard settings?

3. My battery does ridiculously fast. I'll charge it over night and I'll get maybe 4-5 hours of moderate/somewhat heavy use... And it also charges pretty slow. I downloaded the snapdragon battery manager like half an hour ago so I'll see how that turns out.

3. I'm trying to add blinkfeed to apex but I can't find it under the widgets! Also when I go to the widgets under my setting it just takes me to the apex home screen!

If anyone could help with any of the problems that would be awesome, thanks.

Not sure how to help with this one. Would need to know what exactly you are trying to change. Everything should show up by clicking on Settings, then scrolling down until you find what you are looking for. Sometimes people can't tell that they can scroll. Just drag your finger up when you are on the settings screen. The screen timeout is found under Display and is called Sleep. When I say Settings, I'm talking about the icon in the app list called Settings. Not sure how you may have been getting to settings before. May also be that you were going into the settings for Apex, not the phone itself. Apex is just a launcher, it doesn't have anything to do with the OS itself.

I know you said you were on the latest version, but you might check to make sure. I know there was an update pushed out that lowered the overall volume, because it was loud enough to damage the speakers. I never had a problem with it, but I saw a lot of discussions of it. If that isn't the case, then I'm not sure how to fix that for you. I suppose you could install a 3rd party app, like Equalizer or something.

Make sure the Brightness on your screen is not set to 100%. It will suck the battery down like nobody's business. I turn on the Power Saver function (swipe down from the notification bar, and you should see an option for PowerSaver either off or on.) If you turn PowerSaver on, even if the display is at 100%, it isn't REALLY at 100%. It is noticeably dimmer. Should help with battery life. Beyond that, we would need to look a lot more into your phone and what apps you have, and how you use it, and what kind of signal you get (lower signal means your phone will use more power, at least on 3G, not sure about 4G)

As far as I know, you can't do that. HTC Widgets only work if you are using Sense for the launcher. If you put something like Apex or Nova launcher on there, you can't use any of the HTC specific widgets, which includes Blinkfeed. The most common solution I have heard from people is to use FlipBoard as a replacement for Blinkfeed. Pretty sure it is free in the Google Play store.

You can use APEX & create a shortcut to BLINKFEED/stock launcher.
To get back from BLINKFEED/stock launcher to APEX is no problem, just make APEX the default launcher.

It's not the perfect solution, but,it works,& using a gesture on the dock makes for a fairly smooth transition from APEX to BLINKFEED.

I have HOLO LAUNCHER HD PRO,very similar to APEX.If you're interested,I'll log back on tomorrow (9/24) to help you get this set up.

Blinkfeed would onky work on the HTC launcher because it's part of that. Similar to how Go Widgets will only work for Go Launcher.

And another thing with the battery: It will always drain fast the first couple days you use it. One reason is because you probably can't even put it down due to enjoying the new device, but another reason is the battery hasn't had a chance to enjoy a few good, long charge cycles yet. After about a week or so the battery settles down and you'll start to get more consistant charges out of it.

That's what I've found with mine anyway.

Oh yeah, and the Snapdragon BatteryGuru thing takes several days to "learn" your device. It should help as well. I had forgotten he said he installed that.

Question Accidental Factory reset

Hi everyone,

My GF just had our second son. Wanted to show our first son pictures from the hospital. He fiddled with the phone and accidental initiated the factory reset.
Everything is lost.

Is there a way to restore data from my HTC One (got it in april 2013) after a factory reset?

the purpose of a factory reset is to erase/wipe all data, so the short answer is no you can not get the data back.

never say never, but more than likely you can't.

Default Email Management questions

Using the native email app to manage corporate email is giving me fits.

1. Opening the email app routinely (bit not always) opens and I see inbox and sent msgs rather than just my inbox. I have unchecked email grouping and I'm only syncing the inbox.

Anyone know what causes this? A setting I've missed?

2. When I open an email is there no way to delete and automatically go to the next oldest email? Now if I delete an email that I've read I'm returned to the inbox. Annoying.

Thanks for the help.

I'm a Gmail user but have just setup access to my Gmail account using the stock Mail app and it's working as I would expect. Under settings there is a Folder option and by default this is set to 'Inbox', however if you change this to say for example 'sent items; then whenever you open the app it will always default to that folder.
One of the folder options is 'Inbox & Sent Items' so I assume that there lies your problems, change this to just Inbox and you should be OK
When I'm in my Inbox as my default folder and view an email and then subsequently delete this it takes me back to my inbox..

Yeah it should but doesn't. Often I open and it opens to inbox/sent. I've checked/unchecked all those boxes and I can't get it to reliably open to inbox only

hello,

does not matter what "type" of e-mail you have, it all behaves the same way in the native app.

with all respect, yes you are missing something--IF..IF I am picking up what you're layin' down..

if you see "inbox+sent" you can tap the three dots at the top right of the e-mail app screen, then tap "Folder", then you are presented with whatever folders you are syncing under that account.

example, under my corporate exchange account, i have "all messages" "inbox+sent" "inbox" "deleted" and a slew of other folders that I sync under exchange. other accounts will have more or less folders--again depending on how you have your account setup up at the server.

as for #2, do you have group messaging ticked or unticked? try either way and see if this helps.

in earlier sense versions, there was an option to go to the next message or go back to inbox, but i think the group messaging option has taken place of this.

with group messaging ticked, once you delete a message in that "group" you go to the next message in that "group". again playing with this option may work better one way or the other.

bear in mind this is the stock native e-mail app, so it will not be a magic bullet for all users, this is why 3rd party e-mail apps are available.

sending a request ticket to htc requesting this option to be re-added may not be a bad idea.

Default No Power Saver Mode for Verizon

Will Verizon give Power Saver mode to its HTC One customers in the future? I read all the threads on this issue but no one has given a firm answer on it. Thanks.

Not sure but the power saver mode was built in to the software on 4.2.2. We just don't have the option to switch it on or off. As for your question, we most likely won't know till the software is released.

Im running stock with about 120 apps and I can go all day on a charge unless I'm gaming. Think the battery life is real good.

Thanks for the quick and detailed reply. If it is automatically built into 4.2.2, how does that work? It seems as though we don't have the option to uncheck or check the features we want to have on as compared to other carriers do.

What is your screentime to standyby time ratio like? Last I checked, I got 3.5 hours of screen time of my 20.5 hours standby.

I get about 3.5 to 4 hours. The power save features are predetermined and kick in around 20% battery left. It slows the processor down a bit as well as killing unnecessary things that might be running. Also brightness is adjusted too. I usually have my brightness at 35 but when on auto, I notice once the battery is below 20, the screen is dim unless there is a large change in brightness around me...

oh I see, thanks for clarifying. if I was to root my phone, would I be able to set the processor speed to a lower amount so it would use less battery?

You don't have to be S-Off to use SetCPU. You just need to be using a kernel which supports the features.

However, since you are on Verizon I guess you may need it in order to root (if they are blocking the HTCDev unlock)? In which case I note that there's a very relevant thread in the VZW One All Things Root forum .

Default Questions/advice about voice-control on HTC One

Hi, my contract with my cell company is coming up for renewal, and I'm due for a new phone. I've been getting an HTC phone for the last few iterations, currently using the HTC Desire, and it looks like the next phone I get will be the HTC One.

I've read a number of pages of the User Reviews, and I'm looking forward to the sleek feel, excellent screen, and surprisingly great sound. I'd like to ask a few questions pertaining to what I would like to see in my next phone.

I've rooted a phone before, but I never got around to doing it to my Desire. I basically look up how to do it and follow the instructions; I'm no pro. I think I want to root this one so as to have more control over how I interact with my phone.

I'm very interested with voice-controlled commands. I want to be able to have my phone mounted in my car, and I speak its name and say 'Call wife' and it will happen. On speaker phone, of course. I want to be able to say 'Add to file Grocery List: Milk' and my phone updates the grocery list for me.

Is this kind of thing doable? I don't have a lot of needs that go beyond the different apps I can find, but I'm not sure if this level of functionality requires a greater amount of control that rooting the phone provides.

Any advice at this stage would be greatly appreciated!

The One has car mode, which does indeed have voice controls.

It is pretty basic, but works well.

Stock there is nothing really in car mode for adding to your lists, third party apps should be able to handle that however.

You should download the one User Guide and browse through it to see what you can do without rooting. I bet most everything you want will be doable without it.

Probably this -

http://www.droid-life.com/2013/08/22/open-mic-looks-to-bring-motorolas-touchless-controls-to-all-google-now-devices/

Google removed it from the Play Store rather quickly but you can get it here and side load it -

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2450131

Side loading isn't difficult, but I have to leave instructions for someone who knows where enabling other apps is located in the One's settings.

Caution, depending on how you set it up, it can eat battery power quickly. See the links above for tips.

Default Random twitter contacts

I guess I accidentally checked to bring my contacts over from twitter so now I got a jacked up address book. Is there any way to undo this other than restoring the phone?

It also will not let me delete the twitter contacts out of my address book. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

See if this helps... In contacts, click the phonebook word at the top where it says multiple sources. you should be able to unchek twitter there
