Newbie here. Can anyone confirm OTG still works with this update. I am on Sprint in the USA and while it isn't here yet I am close to being out of room and need this feature. Thanks in advance.

I thought I read some where it was disabled or did not work. I could be mistaken, or mixing up root which I have no plans for. I read a lot to try to learn this phone better, guess I have to learn to absorb what I read too lol. Thanks

It does exist, but you need to use an Easter Egg to enable it (!!??). Go to Settings > About > Software Information > More, and tap repeatedly on "Build number". After a few taps it will start to give you a countdown, and if you keep on tapping you will be told "congratulations, you are now a developer" or words to that effect.

Once you've done that, the Developer options menu will be back.

No, I've really no idea who thought this was a good idea...

Great info here. Thank you. I always like reading about or noticing the small changes they always are making, its nice to know about them ahead of time. If no one is talking about them then we are all equally blindsided.

I'm honestly surprised that HTC did not block off the Developer Menu altogether, as they have blocked off the Google "Bonus Content" in the past. Maybe because this one is actually a tangibly useful menu? They had previously blocked the option, but did they somehow grant the ability to flick the Bean now??? Did HTC leave in the Daydreams feature (dock mode screen savers)?
Is the 'background data restricted' alert gone from notifications yet? Or the keyboard toggle when typing?

I've never seen the background data restricted alert. The keyboard toggle is still there - I'm guessing that's JB as someone was posting elsewhere about seeing this on a S4 Google Edition. And Daydreams is in the menu - thanks for explaining what that's about

Oh yeah! Excellent.

And I can set that as a gesture in Apex or Nova so that I don't even need to reach 2 fingers to the top of the phone (which is a 2-handed operation). Perfect

Good point on that too - I will probably revert to Nova again soon.

I always used it on the N4 but wanted to use Sense for a while. I am also looking forward to the stock icons.

Default Jelly Bean Easter Egg + Daydream

I'm sorry to bother everyone with 'newbie' questions, even though I'm not an Android 'newbie'.

I've enabled Developer options under 4.2.2.

However, when I touch About > Software information and repeatedly touch Android version 4.2.2, absolutely nothing happens at all iro the Jelly Bean image or the floating jelly beans.

Am I missing something here???

Also, I only have 2 options under Daydream; BBC Weather ambiances and Colours. Where are the Clock, Bean Flinger, Flipboard, et cetera???

TIA

HTC has been removing the official Android Easter Eggs for a while. No idea why but there it is.

Anyone else get keyVPN app? If so, what is it for? Appeared in app drawer since 4.2.2 update.

Default HTC One 4.2.2

Hello,

I recently upgraded my phone to an HTC One in late June. Since the new Jellybean 4.2 update came out recently, I haven't been able to update my phone to that. When I go to Settings > About > Software updates, I get the message saying "There are no updates available for your phone". Is this normal? Is 4.2 even available for the HTC One yet?

Ps. I live in Canada

They get rolled out phases. Whether it is your carrier or Google that is updating you. It is very frustrating. They even do this for Google apps. My daughter got Google maps last week and I am still waiting.

The only reason I can think of is a slow roll out means they can fix issues on the fly. So, it may mean you are getting a better experience by not being first.

Default HTC One Sim Unlocked not updating to 4.2.2

Hello everyone,
I bought a SIM unlocked HTC One recently and I know 4.2.2 has been rolled out for the device. I have been trying to update through the usual path within the settings menu but the device is telling me that there is no update available.
Would any of you guys know any reason why I can't update OTA? The phone was sold as a factory unlocked one so I would assume OTA updates should be fine.
I love this phone but if I also got used to 4.2.2 on my previous device and I need it on this one too. Also I really can't stand the three dots/black bar menu of doom.
Thanks in advance,
X

Hi Xaviour82, and welcome to AF

First question is, where are you? The update rolls out by country, so that's key - I'm assuming you bought a phone released for your country rather than an import.

4.2 is our for the One, but as gtbarry says not everyone gets it at the same time. It depends on where you are, plus it will almost certainly be slower if you have a network branded phone rather than unlocked/unbranded stock.

Hi Hadron,
Thanks for your quick response. I am in the UK and I've been reading it had been rolled out there.
Cheers,

So the update will give us an actual battery indicator percentage? I hope we can customize the colors. Having just a plain white percentage isn't cool.

It's white, next to the battery icon. No colour option I've seen.

@Xaviour yes, it rolled out here at the start of the week for non-branded UK stock. Not certain what other variables it might depend on that might delay in your case.

I bet some of the app developers won't be happy about Android adding a white battery percentage at all. More reason not to use a battery app anymore.

I believe that is an HTC thing, not an Android thing.

This is correct, not a feature of stock 4.2.2. Although I think Google step on enough toes not to be bothered about Battery Indicator developers anyway.

After playing around with the update, and not being able to see the Jelly Bean image and floating beans (I admit, a petty and trivial thing really), the only practical thing, is the 2 finger swipe to bring up the Settings, Brightness et cetera.

Overall, I'm rather disappointed and unimpressed with 4.2.2, really :-(

FWIW - I know two people who have an HTC One directly from Vodafone and have both received the 4.2.2 update.

Sprint is likely taking their time to approve the update for their network. The update hasn't rolled out to anyone in the US as far as I know. That update you got was to fix other bugs, it wasn't supposed to get you to 4.2.2

The 4.2.2 update included some Sense tweaks (e.g. statusbar toggles) that were being called 5.1 at the start of the thread, but HTC don't seem to have changed the Sense version number.

If the Software Update button doesn't give you an update then 3 haven't released an update.

Rooted, yes. As long as you can unlock the bootloader and fastboot flash a custom recovery you can root it.

I just received an update for my Verizon One this noon. It took only a few minutes and the OS still says 4.2.2. The first messages during the update said that Verizon software was being updated. Then, it said that android was being updated, updating apps 1-50. Maybe that is Verizon's answer to a 4.3 update.

Got the Verizon update too. Still 4.2.2 and Sense 5.0, but the software number is now 1.10.605.10. No idea what it actually did, probably just updated some Verizon bloatware.

My Verizon One just got an OTA, got all excited it was 4.3, but phone still says 4.2.2 and Sense 5.0, pretty sure it said that before, what was in the update then? Anyone know?

According to a software update for the One on the Verizon site, software version 1.10.605.10 has these "key enhancements".

o Device lock-ups have been reduced
o Internet accessibility for the visually impaired is now supported
o Update to ISIS Movile Wallet

Mine just started.... I'm on Verizon (unrooted)

EDIT:
In Status, under Software Update, I'm showing
HTC6500LVW_1.10.605.10-1.10.605.8_R2
(Yes, really, that many repetitions of 10 and 605)
It also has the date of 10/01/2013 and a time of 9:12AM. So, roughly 26 hours ago (I got my phone on Day 1 of release, early in the morning, if anyone wants to try and correlate data for timing).

It still shows Android 4.2.2 and HTC Sense 5.0 however under standard software information.... so maybe Verizon just did something for their own software?
