Default Audio enhancer crashes.

Hey guys, I have found that while playing music on the stock HTC music player a message pops up saying that audio enhancer has crashed. Then it asks me to send a report. Anybody know how to fix this? It's really annoying, thanks.

just so we are on the same page,

are you rooted?

did you install the minor update that was pushed out today?

has this always happened from day one of you using this phone?

does it happen over BT or just wired phones?

beats audio activated? if so, what happens when you deactivate beats?

does this error happen when you first open the player or does it happen randomingly as you are playing music?

I am not rooted, I did accept the update yesterday, and I am on Sprint. This only happens with the stock music player widget and full app. It does not happen with the lockscreen player or with any other media player. It happens whether beats audio is on or off. It happens randomly. And this is over the internal speakers

have you experienced this since day one or did it start recently?

add or remove any programs that affect audio?

have you tried a soft reset?

hold down power button until you see the "keep holding the power button down for 10 seconds..." popup. phone will shut off and keep holding the power button until the phone vibrates and the screen activates. then release. nothing is deleted but this clears out any cache and untangles anything that may be tangled...

give that a try...

Disable power save and fastboot if ticked.

What is your memory usage? It could be getting low on memory.

Can you try another music app?

I never use fast boot, I still have 16GB left, and I don't get this message on other music apps. I guess I'll just use a different app.

I've used the stock player a handful of times and never saw that message. I use player pro and Google play exclusively...

Yes I did, there was no cache data to clear. I know I can use another music player, bit I really like the music player lockscreen, and being able to play music from that, wake my phone up to the music player app and do other stuff without having to switch to another music player is a huge plus.

Player pro (and many others) does all of that I believe plus it crossfades and has an awesome dsp sound pack.

The problem is, I want an audio player that is always on the lockscreen so I can just hit play from there, much like the stock music lock screen on this phone. So far I have not found any that are always there, you have to play music for them to go to the lockscreen.

Unfortunately you might just have to wait until 4.2 gets rolled out or a ROM comes out with it.

The only other 2 options I can think of is a complete factory wipe, and if that does not work taking it to the store and getting it swapped out.

Well, I considered a factory reset (that's likely the solution HTC support would come up with although it would be a huge pain since I have spent hours tweaking the phone) and I bought mine from newegg.com almost three weeks ago, so I can't run to the Sprint store to get a replacement can I?

Well if you setup the newest HTC backup (using your HTC account and dropbox instead of google) it will save a lot of the settings on the phone, not everything but the majority of it at least.

Unfortunately there is not a perfect solution and it sucks... Hopefully some ROMS with 4.2 come out soon, which allows for lock screen customization.

you purchased from newegg, you have to go through newegg. if you have sprint insurance you may be able to pay a deductible and get a refurbished model, but i think if you do a factory reset you will be ok. sounds like something locally on your end that can be fixed by factory resetting. sprint has a 14 day return and you are past that. now you are in insurance replacement/htc warranty phase.

i recommend to use google and not htc/dropbox. they both save nearly all the same data but google is proven...

Before you turn to a factory reset, since you are balking at the idea, it seems there are still alot of variables you could consider.

Have you uninstalled or disabled ANY stock software that comes on the phone? Sometimes applications have been tied together, and inhibiting one that seems unrelated can have negative results on other applications. For example 'Car' or 'Soundhound' or 'Tune In' all have ties into the music application and eachother. There could be other programs with ties in that are much less obvious than music related.

If you have any kind of task manager/power managers installed it could be halting the audio enhancer without your knowledge.
In your photo Power Saver was on, maybe it halted the Music Enhancer to conserve CPU cycles?

Music also has a settings for automatically updating Album art, Artist Photos, and Lyrics. If the phone is trying to update these in the background and it cannot connect or is running into issues I could easily see it crashing music.

Then there is also the question of what media you are playing. Are you playing music stored to the internal Multi-Media Card (storage)? Is the player crashing on a certain filetype? Or is there a pattern with it crashing on the same song repeatedly? If you've got media that is even slightly corrupted or has a filetype that is not supported, it could crash Music.

If you are streaming from a server over IP, that opens a whole bunch of other variables that would to be easy to troubleshoot. Localized media would be easier to investigate and probably more reliable than songs streaming from Dropbox, Amazon, Google servers, or other.

Stock, the Music application (with headphone icon) should have 20.00KB total data attributed to it. Music Enhancer (same headphone icon) should have 52.00KB data attributed to it. Both can be cleared to 0.00KB and restarting Music should automatically set them both back to 20KB and 52KB

That seems to have been the issue. I have a bunch of "unknown artists" and "unknown songs" in my playlist, it was probably trying to update those in the background. I didn't even think of that. Thanks for the suggestion, hopefully this fixes the issue for good.

Holding the power button down did not work, it didn't matter how long I held it down. I figured an app was causing the problem. I'm glad it resolved itself. Thanks
Edit: Spoke too soon, it will not reboot again using the power button. Probably an app but I am not going to start removing them. I will just deal with it

ive had this happen as well does your phone download from the media grace note? if it does let it do its thing and after its done power off the phone problem solved for me hope this helps!

Make sure you are holding the power button down all the way, I have seen people mentioning that their power button is below the body of the phone, if yours is like this, it is possible that you are not actually holding it down. Also, it may take a good 30 seconds or more. Make sure you are holding the button down, the back and home lights should flash, then a message should appear that asks if you want to restart your phone, keep the power button held down through all this. The phone should power down, continue to keep the power button held down until you see the splash screen, then take your finger off the power button.

Yes, it says resetting in 3,2, 1 and it sits there at 1 forever. As I said , this worked before, now it doesn't.

apologies for jumping in, but are you scared to do a factory reset?

tried letting the battery deplete all the way?

are you rooted by chance?

(didnt read all the back and forth here, just doing a random drive by)

No, I'm not really scared doing a factory reset, but I have a lot installed on the phone and that seems like a lot of work for something that is just an annoyance. I don't think I have ever let a battery run down lower the 40% on any phone , ever. I charge my phone every night. The phone is not rooted, nor probably ever will be as I am just not that ambitious and already does more then I could ask for or need from a phone. I listen to lots of music, text, call and surf. Its already light years ahead of my previous 5 Blackberrys. Just having no battery to pull or replace is just stupid to me. With this annoyance it will now be a requirement on my next phone, whatever brand that will be. Probably an SD card too, as I have less than 5 gigs left.Thanks for the response.

Have you tried booting into recovery & wiping the cache partition?
I think this is an equivalent (or close to it) of a battery pull.

I respectfully disagree.

not to get this thread too off topic, pressing and holding the power button will cause the phone to countdown 3.2.1... screen goes black.

CONTINUE to HOLD DOWN the power button and it will reboot.

do I need to post a video to prove this? Plus its all over the internet.

I /we are not saying your device doesn't do it, but, ours doesn't.

What's so hard to believe about that?
It's a fairly straightforward procedure, & it just doesn't work the same for everyone.

Exactly. I get what you all are saying, but THIS DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE ON MY phone. While help is appreciated, to keep suggesting I am doing something wrong because other phones worked this way isn't helpful. It worked before , now it doesn't. Lets just move on I guess. Sorry to take this thread in a different direction. All help was appreciated.
