Default Not using a case? How is the phone holding up?

How is your phone holding up? I always buy a case and end up taking it off. The phone feels so good in the hand without a case.

any scratches to the back of your phone? What about the camera lens? Any scratches there? Overall how is it handling your day to day use and abuse?

Literally looks as new as the day I got it. I've been putting it bare in my pocket everywhere I go as well as the cupholder in my car when I drive anywhere and it has performed admirably well against scratches and scrapes.

I never use a screen protector or case!

The HTC One is holding up fine, looks new. It's always in jean pockets, or the arm rest of my car, or the table at bars.

No visible scratches, haven't dropped it though.

Good to hear. How are you guys mostly putting the phone down? On the back or on the face? My concern is getting the camera lens scratched.

I take it out of the case so people can have a glimpse. If you aren't using a case and something happens to your phone you are going to be pissed off. Any scratches, drops, or scrapes is an injustice to HTC and the HTC One. And if they can't replace your phone right away, using another phone is unacceptable.

I place it down on the back. I'll make sure I don't set it down on gravel or anything, but I'm pretty comfortable with just plopping it on a table or desk or something.

Just as a point of comparison, I have (and love) a Note 2. The bezel is fine and shiney, the front is pristine as the day I bought it, but the back is scratched up quite a bit now and even has what seems to be a permanent imprint about half an inch in length apparently as a result of the way I was pocketing the device.

I recently got a two piece, very light and thin but stiff case.. wish I'd done that right away.

I think the HTC One is already superior in several ways, but in the Samsung plastic regard, quite superior indeed.

Have mine for more than a month. Not a single scratch. As pristine as the day it was bought. My labmate has one also. Nothing. We do not use cases. I am careful about sand and grit not touching it though. That will scratch any phone however.

I have used Spring phones from the beginning and completed 5 two year agreements so I never have used a case because I know I am getting a new phone every 2 years. This HTC One is the best yet and feels great in my hand so no case for me.

Since the original HTC evo I have not used a case on my phone. Personally I think it adds bulk and take away from the design of the device. I keep my phone in my right side pocket all the time with nothing next to it. I'm really anal with keeping my phone clean from dents and scratches, with all that said the ONE fits nicely in the hands but you will have a fear of it slipping out of your hands. It also gets warm when you watch videos and play games, that's just the reality of being metal and no case .Any device will hold up and well maintain depending of how the individual take care of the device.

No case here just a screen protector and my One looks the same as the day it came in the mail it's usually in my pocket or one of my backpacks, when I put it down on the table it's always on the back and camera lens is all good so far

I picked up my One a couple weeks ago. I had purchased a OttorBox but didn't like the way the speaker openings on the front let dirt in under the protector, against the screen. Took it off and much prefer using my phone without a case. The back is just as perfect as the day I got it. Having said that, I did notice a couple micro-scratches on my screen that require quite a bit of effort to see, assumingly from sliding it in and out of my back pocket of my jeans. I put an iFrogz screen protector on and my One continues to rock!

Okay little update was at the beach yesterday and now I noticed a super tiny nick between the T and C of HTC on the back like you'd really have to be examining the phone to see it haha but other than that still all good. The only thing is my One gets way hot fast at the beach which I guess is understandable since it's freakin hot and sunny at the beach lol

I bought the double dip folding case but nobody could hear me when in a call so it has gone MIA.. I've dropped the phone twice and not a mark on it, usually keep it in my inside jacket pocket or jeans pocket.

I actually just noticed a scratch on my glass! Small one, but it's there. Never had a scratch on my EVO 3D or Evo 4G.

Got a scratch on my phone..on the front near the front camera...very small one but u can see the silver aluminium underneath( i got the black version)...and the weird things is i dont know how i got it( i got a nikillin hard case and a scratch guard too)...usually very careful with my phone...always keep it in front pocket and there r no keys in pocket)...
damn it nearly broke my heart seeing that sexy metal body scarred...was wondering if i should have gotten the silver instead
other than that no probs till now(hopefully)

I am tormented with this question. To case, or not to case?
This phone is SO beautiful, I will hate (when the VZ version is released) to put a case on it. Besides, every case I have ever used ends up trapping sand and dust under it, scratching the hell out of the phone's body, so it wont protect the pure beauty of the One.
I do have a small child that is sure to get his hands on it and throw it out of a moving car or something, so...

I've decided to go without a case. After all, we all have insurance right? If I damage the phone bad from a drop or something, I'll just finish it off and go get a new phone. May as well make use, for once, of all this money I have wasted on insurance over the past 6 years

This is what kills me about insurance. What is it now, $10/month plus a $100 or more deduct able? And for a refurb to replace it? Or worse yet, a Samsung or Moto because their stock of my phone is out?
I can buy a used one if I need to for that kind of money, have the choice of what I'm buying, and if I don't need it, great! I just saved a ton of money by NOT getting GEICO.

I hate cases, always end up taking them off... Especially would be the case with this phone (waiting on VZ).. But I'm afraid to put a naked phone in my pocket.... So i use sfbags suede pocket case to protect phones in my pocket... Keeps lint, sand, whatever-pocket-particles, etc... Out of phone... It's thin and does a great job, no scratches on any of my phones... And they're only like 10 bucks. Also have a little pocket if you want for a debit card or license etc...

I have two concerns when using without case: dropping phone is one thing, but the reason I bought case was that after day or two of use I got scratch to camera lens. Camera lens doesn't have any lip around it and it seems to be plastic or something not that hard.

I've had my HTC One for about 3 weeks now and it's never in a case with one exception, when I go biking, in what case it's then in a Otterbox Defender case. The phone is still pristine, though I did put it under an iFrogz crystal screen protector. The only time my One has taken a tumble is on a bike ride where it came out of the mount and sumersaulted, hitting the ground at about 15-20mph. Picked up the phone and found the case to have a little road rash on the corners but the phone remaining in pristine condition.

Does any people roaming around without a case realize that depending upon the case that you buy that it actually absorbs the impact of the phone when dropped?

I don't use a case and work in a steel factory. I'm sure the speaker grilles are gonna fill with metal dust soon since the magnets are powerful enough to pick up bottle caps...

I get circles of metal dust around the top and bottom of the screen. Yay insurance. Still looks new.

I only use my case when I know I am going to be doing something that may result in it dropping (i.e Running, biking, working outside)... Had the phone for over a month and it is still in perfect condition...

Everyone asks me "what phone is that" when I don't have a case. Don't think I have ever been asked when I have the case on it lol.

Yesterday I wore off the case I had because I realized that this phone is so much cooler without it. Probably it's both cooler and "cooler"because aluminum lets heat outside and it does not get trapped between phone and case. However, this is just a phone.

I forgot to report, that day after my 2,5 year old daughter listened some music using headphones attached to my phone. So good so far, she enjoyed it. Actually she enjoyed that so much that she wanted to tell me all about it and because of that, she ran to kitchen where I was, with Grado headphones in hear ears and my naked HTC One behind her. It wouldn't be so bad if our kitchen floor wasn't made of stones..

Well, first scratches..

I also prefer to go without a case, got my phone on release day, and the phone still looks factory fresh. No screen protector either, and I don't consider myself easy on phones. Incredible build quality

Update: dropped my phone at work. Back landed on the corner of a steel platform and tumbled through some cutting oil and metal dust. Now I have a scuff about the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen that can't be felt, just seen.

A++++++ would drop again.

Default Case or no case?

Hi.
Are you using a case on your HTC One? I generally hate cases, but I feel like this thing is more damage prone than my One X+. Whereas the One X+ has a soft-touch polycarbonate body, which is pretty resistant to scuffs & scratches (they honestly just wipe right off), the new One just feels a lot more fragile to me, in that the slightest knock will dent & ding it. And that rounded back looks to me like it'll just get all scuffed & dinged up after sitting on enough bar tables, or knocking around in my pocket, rubbing up against metal buttons, etc. Are you finding that the One is durable, and able to withstand the typical wear & tear of everyday life, or are you finding that a case is absolutely necessary with this phone?

CruzerLite TPU in smoke.

Enough protection for me (and I work in construction). And it still shows off the nice design while being fairly sleek and minimal.

Just gotta pull the phone out every day or two to clean stuff caught between the case and phone.

only problem with most cases, they dont have a hole for the microphone on the back. which distorts phone use.

i have a couple different cases, and i prefer the phone with no case.. had my phone since April.. been in and out of cases, prolly half the time..

makes them so bulky..
poetic is the best, but poor tight fit
then otterbox

after that.. the rest just didnt work good for everyday use.

The first thing I asked about when the rep at Costco handed me the phone was if there was a case in the accessory package that came with the deal. The phone felt too thin and too slippery naked. He put the silicone case on the phone and it has stayed on ever since. Does not add much bulk. No screen protector. I do have a leather case that the phone slides in to when in my pocket. Phone is still pristine. (It is hard to find nice, real leather cases without a belt clip).
Hard for me to believe that the HTC One, or any phone, could go two years unprotected and unscratched.

I have the KaysCase Slim Hard Shell Cover in clear plastic. It is very light and thin, adding just a few millimeters around the device. Because it is clear it shows off the beauty of the phone - I wouldn't consider anything but a clear case on a phone this gorgeous. Literally the day I put the case on I dropped the phone on a concrete step (face down). Now my case is scratched, but the phone lives on.

Also not using a case. I put the phone down on the back. The camera is just enough depressed that it doesn't come in contact with a flat surface. No scratches! The only sign of wear is the Beats Audio logo is started to wear off.

I purchased my HTC One from Verizon the day it was released and it was in an Otterbox case before I even left the store. Is it bulky now? Very much so, but it will still be in pristine condition any time I feel like letting it out of its cage and showing it off in all its glory. To each their own.

I've had it for about a month and shows no scratches. THe only thing is that the Beats Audio logo is fading away but that really doesn't bother me

I spent about a week after I got my One, with no case. Then I got my Otterbox Defender. my phone spent the majority of its time in the case. Over the past month though, I split my time between being in the Otterbox Defender, and being naked. Well, naked with a screen protector. I always have a screen protector on it no matter what.

So far, I haven't had any issues with my phone, with or without the case. The case doesn't cause any rubbing on any areas of the phone, and when it ISN'T in the case, I have been lucky enough to have never dropped it. I do find myself being ultra-careful about laying it down on its back. I am paranoid that I will scratch the camera lense.

very good, no case used.. no marks at all... only problem is the white plastic trim does look mucky... a dab of CIF gently brings it round again tho...

Just a quick update, had the phone since launch and still not using a case.. had a serious drop from about five feet onto a concrete drive and still no marks on it.. one of my pals who has the black version is seeing a different story though, it marks up badly even from just having it in his pocket. Glad I could only get the silver after initially ordering the black one.

Both the Mrs. and I have it. Mine is VzW and looks like it did on launch day. The wife has the black version on sprint and although it was purchased a week or so after me, it's already starting to collect scratches. Very happy VzW was limited to silver

How do you guys handle your phone?

My phone is prepaid and no insurance. I put my phone inside a home made cloth pouch that my wife sew for me. When its laying down it sit on top of the pouch. No scratch. The only thing I notice is the Beats Audio red paint is coming off. Yes I see gap issue on the top and bottom.

I haven't a gap, yet, but I'm sorely tempted to take my Otterbox off to enjoy that GORGEOUS aluminium finish again.
