Default rings on its own then goes into CAR mode

For the past few weeks, my phone started to ring for about 5 seconds on its own and go into car mode when I plugged it in. Anyone else have this problem? I fixed the 'car' problem by updating the settings in that program but how did this happen? I never use that tool. Anyone else notice this?

i'd say this would be an isolated issue for sure.

when it "rings" is it a random ring tone or the one you have setup for calls? do you have different ringtones for different contacts or just one general ringtone?

was it connected to any bluetooth gadgets? any headphones plugged in? i know you said this happens when you plug it in, but is this the only time that this happens? do you plug it into the cars cig lighter or does this happen or when you are home/etc?

try a different cable? does this happen when you plug it into a computer usb port? wall? phones cig lighter?

are you rooted? and what carrier?

you have the "nexus s" as you current phone. are you speaking about the nexus or the htc one?

can you replicate this issue at will?

like i always say, it can be anything. all it takes is for one tangled app or glitch betwixt two apps or so and anything on these supercomputers can happen.

if you installed any apps prior to this happening, remove them. if you deleted anything then find out if it left any remnants of its install.

I asked a lot of questions, but i'm just trying to get the juices flowing and help you to track it down.

the ringtone it uses is the default one for 90% of my calls. I only have a different ringtone for my wife.

I will try selecting a different ringtone and see what happens.

I can replicate this issue at will. I have had this phone since preorder.

I need to update my profile. I gave up the Nexus S in April or May. I was happy to dump that phone.

I did not recently install any apps but things do update occasionally. Not sure if an update came along since this happened.

I changed ringtones and when I plug in , I still get the ringtone playing when I plug in. Now I get the new ringtone playing.

Also, recently, it now rings when I unplug too.

Looking to test with another cable.

THis still happens even with a different cable.

My One X goes in car mode if it "see" on its microUSB port the pins 4&5 are bridged with a resistor, like a car dock does it.

Dirt and fluff can act as an electrical resistance ... so you might have a close look on the connectors, phone's and cable's

Google Translate is to blame for my grammar
