Default trying to hide apps after 4.3 update

Hello all, very new HTC One owner here, great forum and great phone!

I am having an issue with hiding unwanted apps in my app tray.

When I select the "Hide Apps" option, the icons for all the apps pop up and then disappear so quickly I can't even select one. The Cancel/Done buttons are still selectable on the bottom of the screen, but all the app icons have vanished.

I just received the 4.3 update, I have had the phone about 24 hours, I have rebooted the phone, I just can't get it to work!

Any help is appreciated as a cluttered app tray bothers me hehehe!

Thanks!

No idea if anyone is looking at it, I'm sure HTC know about it and are working on a fix though.
I have submitted a ticket to HTC on this and encourage anyone else having the problem to do the same.

Spent some time working on my phone with instruction from HTC yesterday with no luck. The last correspondence from them said that they will be looking for other trouble reports and may issue a software update. So far no luck with a fix.

The rep indicated that they were unaware of the text message photo problem.

Yup I got the same line about them being unaware. The had me install 3rd party SMS apps to see if the problem persists.

there is nothing ground breaking with this update.. actually.. it is a little faster.. battery life.. i havent seen any improvement..

there are more things about it.. i dont like than i do.. my main thing.. is.. when accessing the notification bar.. from the lock screen, and clicking my messages.. it doesnt go to the app..

other than that.. nothing spectacular.. but no bugs other than that..

if you have to have pictures next to your messages in text.. then dont do it.. cuz mine dont work either..

Edit: my list of issues
Cant get Gmail to not vibrate on notification, unless its on silent
notification bar, while locked, wont go to text app
when bluetooth connects, in my car.. my phone has to vibrate, and send a notification.

1: Yes I haven't found a way for it to not vibrate on Gmail notification short of turning of Gmail notifications (which defeats the purpose of push email). But it doesn't bother me because I have vibrate on in Gmail anyway. I would open a ticket with HTC on that just to let them know it annoys you

2: Which text app are you using? Are you using a passcode or anything on your phone? When I receive a text and I turn my screen on, I just press in the text and swipe up (from the text) to unlock and it goes directly to that text message in Messaging app.

3: Can you explain a little more what is going on with your Bluetooth? What kind of car/bluetooth setup is it? I have mine connecting to two different cars: One is a Pioneer Head Unit and the other is a Ford Sync setup. Both connect seamlessly after the initial pairing. Have you deleted the pairing and the re-paired your phone and bluetooth device after update?

#1, i agree.. its just something i have to deal with..

#2, use handcent. have forever.. i do have a lock on the phone.. but only after 1hour due to my work email. previous to 4.3. if i had a notification, i could just hit the power button, pull down notification, click the handcent notification, and it would pull up that text, or if it was multiple text it would just pull up the app message list.

#3, when i get in my car, turn it on, once my car connects to my phone, my phone vibrates, and my text notification sound sounds.. i think i got a message, and i look, i see a bluetooth icon in the top left corner as a notification. same thing happens when i connect to my bluetooth speaker in my apartment. 2013 Hyundai Elantra, all factory. did not do this prior to 4.3

#1 Yeah. HTC fixes things and breaks others. Not sure why they change what works.

2# Ahh I gotcha. I use Stock but I wonder if HTC added more security to disallow that behavior from a third party app?

3# Huh, that is odd. Mine doesn't behave in that way at all. I will play around with my phone and bluetooth devices and see if I can recreate that.

I can't believe I didn't notice this but they got rid of the Always showing Power Save in the pulldown. Now it is only visible when you turn on power save from settings or it turns on by itself when your battery gets to low. No more long press, app info, force stop!

yea.. never had these issues before the 4.3

i will try to get a screenshot next time. if you dont mind.. can you go into settings, click bluetooth, then menu, advanced.. is message access checked?

i will also try stock app

Edit:

on the messages thing.. may just be a handcent thing.. if i type a test message to myself, and just lock the phone.. the app wont launch from the notification, however.. if i send the message.. and say.. hit home button.. then lock phone.. it will pull up the app..

Yeah probably a Handcent thing, maybe an update will fix it. As far as my Bluetooth settings go I have Message access On and FTP Server Off.

Try and get a screenshot if you can. I am intrigued; I just connected to my car and made sure to pay attention to any notifications. It doesn't vibrate or make a sound but the screen does flash a message for less than a second. It is kind of too fast for me to even read what it says but I caught the word connected.

Also on the Gmail vibrate notification thing, I have found that Outlook app and stock mail app do the same thing so I guess it is a blanketed mail notification.

Default 4.3 update wifi problem

I'm on sprint and I got the update today, ever since the wifi will randomly disconnect and reconnect, not allowing me to do anything for a few seconds. Also seems to be draining my battery, been off the charger for only 4 hours with little use and its down to 15% already and shows that wifi is 50% of battery usage.

Is this because of the update or some setting I can't seem to find?

I run signal check pro so I constantly monitor the dBm levels in the area (since Sprint is actively upgrading nearby towers). My signal bars have definitely dropped but the actual signal level is still the same.

Huh, looks like somehow it changed it so you aren't automatically connecting. I really would delete all your pairings from your phone and also on your devices and then repair (if you haven't already). Deleting it from the devices is an important step as this will be starting fresh.

On a different note I have discovered that when my Contact pictures all disappear from my Messaging app, I am on WiFi. The second I turn WiFi off, most of my pictures come back except for one or two.

I thought this update would remove the black bar (settings) but it's still there. Like the quick settings and the battery percentage but honestly don't see much else to make up the 560mb file. New bloat maybe? The wild tangent thing was difficult to disable.

No problems with signal our anything else.

The update should give you the option to disable the dots menu. Goto settings-display-then scroll down a little to buttons-home. Press on home and pick the option that says "swipe up for Google now & press and hold for menu"

Just wondering, if you don't like the update, is it possible to do a factory reset and put the phone back the way it was? I've decided not to update my HTC One because it is working fine like it is. The main reason I wanted to update was to get the Photosphere feature, but I found out they are only on Nexus devices, so I don't have a compelling reason to update my phone. I will probably get a Nexus 7 tablet instead.

Question AT&T Software Update not responsive

I have an HTC One with AT&T and I am trying to upgrade to Andriod 4.3 which came out yesterday. When I go into settings and select AT&T software update and tell it to "Check for updates" it says it is checking then the message goes away like nothing has happened. My coworker was able to update her HTC One via this process and prior to the update would get a message that she cannot check for another 24 hours if there was no update. I thought maybe my AVG Antivirus software was getting in the way so I uninstalled that and tried again but still checks and says nothing. I have read another post of a user that had this issue and the reply said to clear data from the Google Services Framework but reading other posts users have said that is a very bad idea. I had the phone factory reset (after busting my screen) about a month ago and I have tried shutting down and a full restart but no change. Still checks then stops with no message.

Are you on wifi? I was able to get it to check for an update and get the update, but since I'm not currently connected to a wifi network it won't download yet. The file is syill there, though, but when I go back to check for update it just hangs at that screen.

no, you cant roll back the update. you will have to root your device to do this.

visit the rooting subforum of your carrier and find out how.

They say if it's not broke don't fix it. Then again 4.3 does bring a nice speed boost and better battery life. Of course the decision is up to you, but I'd personally recommend the update. 4.1 is 2 versions old and 4.4 is expected out next month. Being 3 android versions behind on a flagship phone just seems like a waste to me.

Yeah, the signal bars are a more realistic representation of the actual signal strength, now if only they had done that with the battery icon...

I'm seeing this same problem.

I am also seeing this annoying problem: user picture in messages is showing the default grey icon rather than the user picture.

Default Help with the AT&T 4.3 Update

I have an AT&T branded HTC One and it's unlocked and i'm on Smart network (Philippines). How come I haven't received the 4.3 update on my phone? Will I ever get the update or not because it's unlocked or because im in a different network/country?
I've checked in the setting at At&T Software update and About phone>Software update also, no dice. It says its up to date and for the AT&T Software update option, it just says checking for updates and disappears.

my handcent issue that i had before, i chatted with handcent, and they had me uninstall, and clear app cache, and reinstall the software.

that seems to have fixed the issue.

Yup the contact picture missing annoys me to no end. It seems to happen less when I am on 3g or 4g. I have opened a support ticket with HTC about as have several other but please do so as well. I bet if we annoy them enough they will fix it.

UPDATE: FYI I just received this email from HTC regarding the Contact Photo issue

"thanks to the information you have sent to me. Now that we have all the necessary information, we will go ahead and escalate this issue so it can be review internally by our escalation department and a solution can be provided to you as soon as possible. I would once again like to apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience in regards this matter."

Default I think the update is affecting my white noise app.

I did the update yesterday, and the only issue I am noticing so far is that my white noise app is not functioning smoothly any more. I use the App "Relax and Sleep" whenever nearby noise is preventing me from sleeping - the worst of which is my husband's snoring which is loud, goes right through earplugs, consistently changing in volume and resonating frequency, and is unaffected by having him sleep on his side. Last night the sound on my App started cutting out every 5-10 seconds. Although it literally only lasts a fraction of a second it happens with enough frequency to be annoying and defeats the purpose of helping me fall asleep. Note - the app does not use a data connection to work, so wi-fi/data signal is not the issue - in fact, I just tested Slacker Radio and it is not experiencing the same problem.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues with any sound-oriented apps.

Is there anything else I should try before uninstalling and re-installing the app (and losing my saved settings in the app.) (I should probably mention here that I am not very computer savy, and a close friend and computer guru advises me against force-closing apps. He says that the android operating system is good at managing power by closing apps that need to be closed and that force closing apps can lead to bigger phone issues.) If that doesn't work, I'll probably try the factory reset, but looking at the other posts here, it looks like that won't return me to an earlier software version. Although someone said the next version is due in a month, we'll be lucky to get that update before sometime next spring.

I havent did the factory reset yet because im having so much trouble finding a way to save my contacts, I tried using Google but it so confusing, my problem im having with Google is, for some reason Google only saves 26 random contacts instead of all of them, is there some setting in my phone I need to adjust? Or is there a setting in Google I need to change to make all my contacts export to google?

Or is there any other alternatives to saving my contacts so I can perform a factory reset?

Default barely any bars

I'm with Sprint

Updated a few days ago and immediately noticed that I only get 1 bar in places where I used to have full signal. It's so bad that I can barely use my phone for calls.

Additionally, my internet is very slow now. These are all things that I've noticed since the upgrade.

I don't need too much fancy stuff...I just need to be able to make calls and use the internet when I need to.

bummed

If you are at a place that you used to have strong signal, but now don't, go to Settings, then About, then Network. What does it say your signal strength is? There are also apps which give much better reports of the actual signal, but this is already part of your phone. Someone else can probably give you better instructions.

I already use Nova Prime, and actually have actions like blinkfeed tied to an icon so I can still access the app. I am just reporting the issues with the new software.

Default after 4.3, Calendar notification on lock screen won't go away

Hello everyone, I have an unlocked (Global) HTC One and recently updated it to 4.3. I don't use the calendar at all but last night a notification for Columbus day came on in my lock screen and I can't get rid of it. I looked through all the settings and turned off notification of all kinds! But the damn thing is still there.
Any ideas on how I can get rid of these calendar notifications?
Thanks in advance!

Because this is the stock ROM. We're not talking about installing a custom ROM on a rooted phone, but an over the air update to an unrooted one.

An RUU is a ROM Upgrade Utility, so you can't use it to revert to an earlier version (at least not on an unmodified phone). Which is why a service centre is the remaining option if a factory reset didn't fix it.

I had some really annoying issues after the update. WiFi not hooking up was the worse. I did a factory reset and everything is good again. I generally expect to have to do a reset after an os update anyway.

So if you're having issues, back up your music/photos/etc and try a reset.

When I get time, I'm going to do a Factory Reset. Problems I have are just like the ones mentioned above:

-Missing contact photos in Messages app.
-WiFi not working, consistantly reconnecting and/or losing signal.
-Slow Messages app.
-Battery draining faster.

I just have to find the time to do the reset.

Default HTC Productivity Lock Screen not working after 4.3 update

Before updating to 4.3, all of my calendar events, gmail, text all showed on the productivity lock screen. Now all that is displayed are the text messages. I have checked all the settings on the productivity lock screen to display the 3 (why not all 4 HTC) and they just don't work. I had no problems on 4.1.2. Stock AT&T HTC One btw

Default Issues updating to 4.3

I have an HTC one and I have some problems with it yet again.
First, the camera is very blurry. Doesn't focus after maybe 6 inches. Also I cannot update this phone to android 4.3 for some reason. I have an att phone with a t-mobile sim, is that a problem?
Any help? I am going to try and go to a att store and see if they can repair the camera if i can't.
Thanks

update to 4.3 first before you do anything.

how long have you had this phone? i ASSume you are not rooted?

have you always had issue with the camera?

smoke over the camera discussion on this page:

Camera (and motion video) talk - the Ultrapixel and more (tips/discussion)

see if your concerns about the camera are discussed there.

You may have to do a factory reset. ATT store will also do this as a last (or maybe first) resort, so why not do it on your own.

But the CID will be ATT.

I don't know how this network customisation thing works because I always buy unlocked handsets. But I do know that I get updates (if I'm running stock) when they are released by HTC for my region, not when the network I'm using releases them. Hence I'd assume that the CID is more important than the current network.

No AT&T can't push the update through T-Mobile network
The sim he's using determine if you get the update

Default HTC One, FM Radio, Bluetooth Share Crash

Hey everyone thanks in advance for any and all help.

When I listen to the FM Radio, Bluetooth Share will randomly crash, whether it be after 30 seconds or 1.5 hours, it will crash guaranteed. I can only then start listening to the radio again after I reboot the phone.

I have tried resetting the phone, disabling bluetooth, googling... Nothing really comes up!!!

The error message that comes up is

"Sorry
Bluetooth Share has stopped unexpectedly. Would you like to send a error report to HTC? This will help us improve our products"

The info from the error report

send this info directly to HTC.

this thread is used for bug/issues with 4.3.

not many people use the fm radio which is why this may be a rare issue and not seen on other forums.

there are 3rd party fm apps in the market, have you tried other apps?

did you disable BT and test with BT not running?

what other troubleshooting steps have you attempted?

you were using the fm app prior to 4.3 correct? did you have any issues prior?

how long have you had this device? did you purchase new?
