Checking for updates
I just wanted to start a thread about how many times people have been checking for updates on this phone.... i mean i check 6-7 times a day reading new forums searching the internet jumping from one site to the other. All of this just to find out if something new has leaked.... how many of you out there are doing the same thing? How many times a day? well i dont think its just us either i mean not even 10 min after i post already have over 8 people checking it out seeing if something new was said man i love the internet
I was dead set on buying a Droid until I saw the leaked pics of the Passion.
Definitely checking a bunch of sites multiple times/day to see what's new.
Anyone got some other good sites to check?
I check:
Phandroid
BGR
Engadget
and also check, of course, this forum.
Though I'm thinking as time goes on and we don't have any new info, I might have to just get the Droid. I need a phone now, can't wait until sometime in Q1

i use what yzzim uses plus i check google all the time, also phone arena. i remeber when i started looking up this phone the find assist in google wouldnt populate anything now you type in htc passion theres a whole list it tries to assist with just since many people have been searching for it
You update fiends who refresh 100 times a day should look into RSS readers. I use Google Reader http://www.google.com/reader which allows you to subscribe to a site's RSS update feed if it is offered. All the major blog sites including phandroid have an RSS feed and whenever an update occurs it shows up in your RSS reader. No more needing to alt-tab then refresh all day long.
Hey guys...I'm new to the forum and new to Android (getting my Droid this Friday). But I have been trying to find out information on the Passion and I found this article. Some of you may have read it before but it is different than all the other message boards and articles I have read. I just thought i should post it to get your opinion. The guy does make some sense when he says why would verizon put so much money and effort into promoting the Droid when it has a more powerful phone coming out around the same time?
Ha, yeah, I do a Google search probably 7-10 times a day. I'm hoping for a mid-December release (no way is this thing coming out on Black Friday.) If it comes out sometime in Q1 2010, so be it- I'll keep waiting.

Well why did the Imagio come out a little over 30 days after the Touch Pro 2 when they're the same phone internally? Answer: Because one's a touchscreen w/ slider qwerty, and the other is just a touchscreen.
What's the Droid? Touchscreen w/ slider qwerty
What the Passion? Touchscreen only
They are not competing devices because some will demand a physical keyboard while others (myself included) would prefer a slimmer handset with a virtual keyboard.
Anyway, I check too many times a day and it gets frustrating when nothing is out there. I actually just found this forum and signed up because in the absence of blog info, it's nice to be able to actively discuss this with others. I just someone would leak something already. Pictures would be great. SOMEBODY has to have a test unit in hand! I think these bloggers should start offering cash for info.
I'll throw myself into the mix as well and would rather not say how often i check for new on the Passion. My Google Reader account is currently almost exclusively dedicated to possible Passion feeds. Found this this morning...probably not news to most but I figured i'd throw it into the pot.
If the picture is accurate, I don't like that there are no talk and end buttons. It appears to have the same buttons as the Droid plus the track ball. Answering calls on the Droid is a pain if your hands are full or if you have on gloves.

Couldnt you use the trackball to choose answer or ignore?

True, although I too would appreciate the call buttons such as the Eris has. Also, let's hope the thing has decent battery life and they don't go for a paper thin design at the expense of a decent battery. Personally, after carrying around a three year old thick flip phone, i wouldn't mind something a little thicker than the iphone. Smartphones just feel so dinky, will have to get use to that i suppose.

This really confuses me about the high end Verizon Android phones. When I had the Droid it always annoyed me to some degree. It wasn't a issue when I had to answer a call, but it would have been nice to have a button to hit end since sometimes the on screen button would take a moment to respond.
Went to best Buy to return my Droid again....... Like the Storm one on steroids, oh with a useless slide out keyboard..Anyway nuff rant, Asked about the passion girl said only one phone that she knows of coming out black friday for Verizon and its a flip. Says in whisper look for mid December but I dont thinks its called that.....

If this is what you think of the Droid, are you really sure you'll want the passion? Most I know like the droid, but are thinking if something a little faster with a bit bigger screen comes out soon, why not wait for that?
Sure the Sense UI is there, but if you don't like the android experience on the droid so much (the storm 1? truly?) what makes you think some pixels and hertz will change your mind?
If there were no rumors/speculation on the passion I'd definately get Droid, because I want off ATT/iPhone, and I like android as an OS. I think most people looking do too, but want the Best android, if it only means waiting another month.
I think I will like it better and compare the Droid to the Storm fora few reasons. Droid battery pulls as noted (like the storm, Bugs hardware and software ,feel like a beta tester again, Screen going black (sleep mode), freeze ,crashes, worthless slide out keyboard alot of flaws being design, Os or whatever much like the first gen of the Storm. As far as the passion I think I would like it better as the HTC sense UI is a more polished OS of android. I think most of the bugs will be out. The hardware looks like second generation. the larger screen will I hope make the TINY text of Android larger. The onscreen keyboard of the passion will be HTC so better , although the droids is fine. There will be a phone button and end call button. Its like they took the best of the droid and made a better phone. Of course this is ALL speculation on rumors. If the Passion is like the rumors it will kill the Droid in everyway. I like LIKE my Droid. I just feel its a first gen phone. Same feeling I got with my Storm one. Nice at the time but needs some love and it aint all OTA updates going to fix them.
BTW I LOVE Android and will not go back to Rim. Android is the bomb.com!

I don't think I'd mind the Droid bugs so much, especially at the rate they'll be fixing them, and I'm not 100% that HTC will come out with a perfect release. But I do agree, screen size will help, and Sense is nice even if just for the hack-less multitouch browser and better onscreen keyboard (like you said).
Though Droid would be easier to update to later versions, since I wouldn't have to wait for HTC to update (or hope they haven't abandoned me for Passion II). And I hear a lot of the widgets/look you can get with AppStore stuff. Still not sure. I guess I'll wait a bit longer. You're distate for 'beta'-ing is completely valid, and tbh I have no Real reason to upgrade right now. I just dislike owning an iPhone )

Faster processor usually means shorter battery life. Many people have complained about the HTC Hero and Eris battery life, and have to tweek settings and apps to remedy. Hopefully HTC has put these past experiences into the design of the Passion. Freezes and crashes may be caused by downloaded apps, and the android market doesn't have the approval process that the iPhone app store does.

I love the HTC Sense UI over the vanilla Google Android Experience too. Only time will tell if text is better, and like most, lets hope text size is an option in future android releases.

Yup. Looking for something, anything. I check here, BGR, Engadget, Phonearena, Howard Forums, and the VZW Community, checking things several times a day.
My Name is KDawg and I'm a Passion/Dragon-o-holic. My last google search was five minutes ago.
Seriously, I can't stop checking for details on this phone, I'm fiending for info, checking like multiple times an hour. First I run a search on Google, snoop through Engadget, Slashgear, BGR, etc., then pass a half an hour or so reading the posts on Phandroid, until I'm compelled to go back to Google to start the whole cycle all over again. I'm a sick man - I can't imagine what my life will be like when and if this phone ever ends up in my possession. What will I do with my time?

LOL...I thought i was the only obsessive one. I have been waiting for this phone and am on google reader all day long watching for updates from my rss feeds. ...Patience is not my best virtue
I'm also totally obsessed with researching this phone. I'm thinking of quitting though, because it's starting to become a real issue for me! I have to remember, the watched pot never boils...

so will it be a 3.7" AMOLED screen like we have been hearing or have the 3.8" WVGA screen like the touchhd? Will there be dual LED flash for the camera like we have been hearing or will it not have a flash like the touchhd? big question will it have the 1ghz processor or will it be like the touchhd with the old 528mhz. will it be thinner then the droid/iphone?

Things to doubt: itunes (no android supports this), looks like touch hd (only rumor about that was a picture in october of the touch hd with a picture of a dragon overlayed on the screen), 10 days? It's not on FCC yet and believe me, VZW and their insane testing protocol will not allow a phone to go to market or even close without clearing the FCC well in advance (like, more than 2 weeks).
I like the idea of an optical trackpad (ala Bravo) but I just don't believe you.

So you will be getting a phone that could possibly not even work in your area (no CDMA in Euro)? How do you know anything official about this phone? We, of course, have heard rumors but have no reason to be confident of a Jan release (moto wants to rule vzw). Renders of the Bravo also show hard buttons while you say the Passion will be the exact same phone as the Bravo but you also mention it will have no hard buttons.

Now, we got one person "in the know" on here and another on the Verizon board. I wish VZW would just come out and say what their new android is.. Whether it's next Friday on the week after, I just want to know when... especially before January 23.
