Also, not that it's android, but the latest in the rumor mill is that Verizon will get it's own version of the iPhone (slightly smaller) in June of 2010.
lol I've been researching what's the best phone to get on what network for some months. Want to make sure I have the best I can get at the time.
I think the reason this is running off topic is there is no news on the Passion. Im thinking this was all a rumor some kid started in his basement lol. No FFC check, no solid pics (real), no news,even BGR has dropped the Passion hoopla. I think they should close the whole damn forum on Passion. Putting alot of presure on HTC to rename a phone the Passion to not let us down lol.

The request was not only very polite, but reasonable. Please do take a look at the rules thread. You will notice several mentions of being respectful to the members around you. Please soak that in before continuing to post.
Am I suggesting you can't have a little side talk during slow Passion news time? No. Still, do I want it to derail the thread? No. This is a Passion thread in the Passion forum. So if someone politely asks you to move irrelevant talk to a relevant thread, don't fault them for that. Much less be rude about it. Hell, ignoring the request altogether would have been better than that childish response.
A reasonable approach would have been for you and CST to take the talk to PMs (or a new thread) after the first couple posts of realizing you were both interested in this other phone.
Please keep all further replies to this thread on topic please. If you (or anyone) has any feedback or response in reply to this post, do it in PMs.
And by do it in PMs, I mean - send me a private message. Do not click the "reply" button, and continue this talk here. Seems silly for me to have to say? You'd be surprised.

Is there ever going to be anything new? I've been able to absorb 3 months worth of rumors in one day, simply because there really is NO information on this phone.
Makes you wonder if someone didn't just make it all up after seeing the picture of the mystery HTC phone leaked.

So again this isn't something people haven't heard before. The device is slated for verizon but the details are sketchy even for verizon corporate development. I was trying to get a device to test with but all I can get is that the "htc dragon" people talk about isn't a device but the dragon is the codename for the processor being used, simple as it is the snapdragon, and the "passion" is the codename for the device that is due out sometime in Q1.
Verizon has been keeping the droid stuff close to the chest from on high, corporate development didn't get the phone to show off to us till a week before it launched and generally we can get phones at least a month ahead of time and have information long before then.
Be patient. Its coming. My friends have it, they love it, they work at Google, no they wont give it to me.
Have they been given an official name of the phone, any official specs of the phone they are using, has this phone passed the FCC yet, or how long they were told they were going to "test" this phone? Any additional info would take the edge off for another week or two .

Sorry I couldn't find a still photo of the screen.) Where the black censor bar is should say droid. Makes me wonder two things, if this Unicorn Phone is part of Verizon's Droid line, or if this photo was photoshopped. The ladder seems more likely considering that the startup screen on the Eris looks nothing like this. Also the top bar where the service tower, clock, and battery are, is very characteristic of a Motorola device.

So I finally stopped by my Verizon store in Sevierville and asked my friend if he knew anything about the HTC Passion. He smiled, almost slyly, before saying he knew nothing beyond the rumors online and that I was the third person to ask. He said that there was a phone on a different network being called the Passion and that when Verizon gets it, it will probably be the Dragon. I of course jumped on that comment with a "So Verizon IS going to get it?" To which he replied, "That's still unofficial."
So like kyler13 said, he's in the same boat we are. I did get to see the Eris for the first time and I have to say was kind of surprised. I had only see the picture, which does not do the phone justice. Was really nice.

I work for one of Verizon's corporate customers. We had some emails going back and forth early last month about it as I want to test some features for staff that can handle strong cpu processing and the eris doesn't cut it. Also I don't want the staff having that physical keyboard to play with nervously as it will cause issues.

Cant you get one of them to take a picture of themselves holding the phone? Not focusing on the phone but a kind of "Oh hey I accidentally took a picture of my torso while holding this phone"
Makes sense, but then HTC prob. as a division like Fringe science and is dedicated to hunting those people down after posting a picture to the online community, and divulging information that can prob. cost millions of dollars......
When the droid (motorola) came out we (VZW employees) had to sign about 6 different NDA's when we went to training for the device and for the invite only rally for our region. VZW is taking these android handsets VERY seriously, honestly, I'm not going to put my job in jeopardy to show people a phone, that we all know is coming out sooner or later anyways.

Thats what i was saying... I only made it more of a joke, Im sure there is a tight lid on this an probable the rest that will come out next year. Im excited and the more I wait the more money i save not having a data plan! This will be my first phone that I will have a data plan for and can surf the net, Im in construction now but will be soon getting a job in education, "I graduated a year ago certified K5 and special ed, and haven't found a job! no reason for email checking and surfing the net when Im laying tile and grouting walls..... but soon I will!!!!!!!
well i spoke to an HTC sales rep today and he said flat out that htc was not going to be releasing any more phones in 2009, he had heard of the passion and he said that it was going to be coming out in Q1 2010. although he said that he wasnt sure that it would be coming to verizon although all signs point to that. He also said that from now on verizon would not be releasing any smartphones that cost more than $199...

well i sure as hell am rooting for that....but wouldnt more verizon employees have discovered this....at my local store they were all reading the same blogs and just as curious as i am..

There is nothing in the VZW system that a retail employee can access in regards to ANY android phone other than the Droid and Droid Eris. Period. Trust me, I check everyday.
However, there IS a BoGo on the Droid this weekend, so tell your friends who may be looking for that "great deal".

If you really want to know if you were being fooled or not: Go back to that verizon store and ask for them to search again, then let them show you what it says on their screen or look over your self to confirm it's not them just googling it. Sounds to me like you were duped but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Seems odd that "in their system" it would say "Coming Holiday 2009" rather then being a bit more specific. If they were checking an actual inventory system, I've never heard of one that sets vague arrival dates.
Just my thoughts though. I'm trying to keep my hopes at a manageable level. lol

The next major Android phone to be released here will be shown at a Mobile World Congress | Global Conference for Mobile Technology and Business on the 15th of Feb 2010. Shortly after it will be available in Swedish stores. Maybe this could be the Passion you all are waiting for. Maybe it has already been released in US before that. The Hero came first to EU so maybe US has to wait once more? Anyway I will wait until something nice shows up, the Hero is nice but I would like a bigger screen.

Thanks for the link but what I read in that article is that the sequel to the "flagship Hero" will be debuted at MWC. Doesn't say the next HTC Android phone will be debuted then. My goodness, if that were the case I'd be buying the Eris today, I tried it out again and it's a mighty good product.
FYI everyone, I've been checking the FCC daily for about a week now. Nothing from HTC since 10/23/09, though of course they could use a different name if they really wanted to be stealthy. I personally don't think they'd go that far to protect Motorola's sales, though!
To put that in a little perspective, Motorola has quite a few entries lately, including 12/02 and 12/04! I'm not good enough to figure out what the devices are though.
IMHO, it's not looking good for the Passion to be released mid-December as we had been hoping.
I put "HTC" as the Applicant Name and 10/01/2009 - 12/31/2009 as my search range. Try it with HTC then try it with "Motorola" and you'll see the difference for yourself.
Still more rumors, but at least there's no longer any silence regarding HTC's upcoming offerings.
If you follow tweets, lots of inquiries regarding the nextgen of HTC phones, be it the Passion, Dragon, or whatever...
So we don't really know where its going at all now...I liked it better when we thought it was coming to Verizon. At least we have a new time frame... First 2 weeks in Jan. I'm not gonna be able to leave the Big Red V though. Best service in this area of So Cal.

Picked up an Eris during the holiday 60 day return program and I am loving it; coming from a POS Motorola Q I promise I will be happy with it for a long time...
But DAMN I want this phone! I'm in the same boat as you all, searching every day for new info... fingers crossed that it comes to VZW before Jan 13th!!
