Picked up an Eris during the holiday 60 day return program and I am loving it; coming from a POS Motorola Q I promise I will be happy with it for a long time...
But DAMN I want this phone! I'm in the same boat as you all, searching every day for new info... fingers crossed that it comes to VZW before Jan 13th!!

I can't get a new phone til Dec. 23. I'm going to get an Eris. I was talking to a verizon rep about my plan how the $30 data plan would affect it. I currently have unlimited texting. I'm going to take that off and go with the 250 month text plan. I don't do that much texting anyway. That would knock my bill down to $40. I have the 450 minute nationwide plan. That plus the $30 data plan plus 20% work discount = about $61.00 for me. That is close to what I'm paying anyway.
Plus I would have to pay $150 instore for the phone and get $100 back mail in rebate.
I really wish they'd give us some sort of confirmation on what hardware is coming and where. We are expected to make smart choices when it comes to buying things like this but its hard to when you buy something new and cutting edge that you're supposed to get a year or two out of, but its over shadowed by something better in a month or two. Now I know that's technology... but then people wonder why there's such a surge of people doing every trick in the book to replace the handset they just got. I think that's where Apple also has a huge edge...atleast you know they won't release something better a month after you buy the latest. I'm no Jesus Phone Fan Boy but if they were on Verizon I would seriously have to consider...
Kinda makes sense with the rumor that its goin to TMobile early jan (first 2 weeks) then could come to verizon 3rd or 4th week of jan as PassionC.
Could happean
At this point I'm not sure I care when it comes out, just so long as a date gets set and confirmed. I don't mind waiting patiently when I know how long I have to wait. The not knowing is irritating as hell though. The small rush of rumors we've had just recently does look promising though so at least I have hope that I'm not waiting/pulling hair out/trying to not kill my BB in the meantime for nothing.

Agree. At least if it is announced before the end of the holiday return period (Jan 13th) then I could return my Eris and wait it out just a bit longer...

Well if that's the case then I promise to be happy with the Eris until my plan is up for renewal again... I do love this phone, and no way am I going back to the craptastic Moto Q until April :-)
Sources have the Passion/Dragon/Bravo reaching VZW shelves in APRIL 2010, likely due to the difficulty in mating Sense UI with OS2.x.
No. Sources have the Bravo reaching Tmobile shelves in April 2010. Go back to the leaked catalog and look at the pics. You're looking at a tmobile catalog unless HTC has decided to only make phones for Tmobile.

Thanks for pointing this out. I caught the same misinformation in a couple other threads on here as well. There's nothing said by any source about an April release for the Passion on Verizon. Simply loose interpretation.
Nothing new here. This is just the google translation of the original ChinaTimes article that the digitimes article references in case any one was interested.
Yeah I hear ya, but this phone has me on these sites to much....LOL. For something that's not even confirmed...LMAO. My post count will be a hundred on this site before I ever get my first Android set...LMAO. But its cool knowing I SHOULD have the coolest phone on the Planet soon. At least for a short...
Yeah, too bad the googlephone is on AT&T. I hope the VZW gets an equivalent to this phone and they announce it soon so I can stop coming to this website.

Stop Coming!?! Why would you wanna do that!?! That's when all the fun starts. Problems you might run into, things you want to report, Apps/Games you want an opinion on, don't even start me on rooting...if you get this phone, you'll still be around!
No. Rumors from a couple of weeks ago were that Google employes were playing with the Passion back then. This should be a different phone. Hopefully this means they are done playing with the Passion, it is closer to release, and they are now playing with the next toy....
Is this something that we can confirm for sure? And if it is, Why should AT&T get another amazing phone? Throw me a friggin bone here
It didn't sound like ATT is going to get it, more like someone thrrew an ATT sim card into an unlocked phone and it worked beautifully... I'm sure the Tmo ones worked just the same.
But im on the Big Red network, and there is no way I can change. Am I SOL unless i buy it for retail price?
No, If they only released GSM versions you'd have to change networks. Buying a GSM phone would not work on Verizons CDMA network. BUT I'm on Verizon myself as well and remember the rumors surfaced about Verizon. There IS supposed to be the CDMA/Verizon version of this phone released in late JAN. There are tons of clues that this will be cdma as well so just cross your fingers. They say its easier to test phones by giving them out as unlocked gsm phones...or at least I hope!

People, dont forget that Verizon and Google have a partnership. As far as I know other carriers do not have such an agreement. They have comitted to a multiyear roadmap and several android devices. Hence this would favor the Google phone coming to Verizon.
Yes, it's true that the phone they handed out at Google had a SIM card slot, but don't world phones have sim card slots, even if they're CDMA phones? I.E. The Blackberry Storm? Couldn't this phone that these Google employees are playing with just APPEARS to be a GSM phone because they are using SIM cards? If it's totally unlocked, it could be a world phone and it works on EVERY network. GSM and CDMA. Because honestly, if I just found a phone on the street and I picked it up and took the battery cover off and saw a SIM card slot, I would assume it was a GSM phone for T-Mobile or AT&T, I would never first assume that it was a world phone compatible with GSM and CDMA networks. And there would really be no way to tell just by looking at the phone. Thoughts?

I know for a fact the Storm 1 has a SIM card. I know because I can take off the back panel and there it is. It comes locked by Verizon. This goes the same for the BB Tour and Storm 2. I believe this is also the same with the HTC Ozone and Touch Pro 2 on Verizon. Dont know why anyone would say the presence of a SIM card negates CDMA or Verizon.
Um, no. Several phones on Verizon have SIM cards: Storm 1+2, Tour, Ozone, touch Pro 2, etc.
They have sims but it doesn't do anything. Many have removed them. I have an unlocked storm1 with a sim slot. I can't use it on Tmo or ATT though. Its only useful if I travel over seas from what I heard.

That's true...I have heard many people who use them on different networks, run into issues. For GSM carriers, it's always better to have a GSM only device.

Verizon's world phones (and Sprint's for that matter) don't have US GSM bands and only access international GSM networks. They're only utilized overseas. So unless u travel frequently, those sim slots are useless.

Not entirely true. Yeah, they only have 3G int'l bands, but the Verizon world phones are quad band for GPRS/EDGE. They're locked to the Verizon-supplied SIM so that they can't be used in the US, but Verizon has been more than willing to unlock these upon request because some people like to drop in pre-paid SIM cards when out of the country to not incur world roaming charges. If you do this and drop in an AT&T card, it will work here, albeit limited to 2G data speeds.

The HTC Passion is largely believed to have launched as the Nexus One. However, just as the HTC Dream launched after the T-Mobile G1 (both being identical phones), we're keeping the HTC Passion on the list as an additional phone/brand until the... Read More
