Bravo is Passion/ US gets it Jan/EU gets it in Apr
Finally some news worth reporting. I am so glad that there are some confirmations about this. The screen info is still out but at least HTC confirmed that it is one in the same. Happy reading. Glad I waited.
The real question that no one is answering is, will the Bravo/ Passion be on Verizon in the U.S. We know that it will be T-Mo in Europe.
That my friend is the $100,000,000 question. I can tell you this. I called Verizon yesterday about doing the Backup Assistant thing for my contacts. Brilliant idea. Any ways the lady asked if there was anything else she could do to make my day? I jokingly said, "you can not tell me the date when the passion/dragon will be released can you?" She replied," I'd love too but we havent been given that date just yet."
I know there's been some head scratching over the January US release vs. the April Euro release, but with the latest story coming out about Android not doing so hot in Europe, kinda makes sense that the US is the target market here.

I don't want to rain on your or anyone's parade, but... there's still nothing official or confirmed yet about the Passion. The text of your post led me to believe HTC had released something official, but sadly no.

The Bravo has the Snapdragon QSD8250 chip, which is the GSM chip:
From Qualcomm site:
The QSD8x50 platform consists of the QSD8250™ which supports GSM, GPRS, EDGE, HSPA networks while the QSD8650™ supports CDMA2000 1X, 1xEV-DO Rel 0/A/B, GSM, GPRS, EDGE and HSPA networks.
I'm still crossing my fingers Verizon will get a QSD8650 version the 1st of the year, but the silence isn't looking good. All the GSM Passion/Bravo news the past few days has me depressed. The only thing that keeps me going is the PassionC listed in the leaked ROM, but it's still wait and see.
Personally I wouldn't blame HTC if they turned their back on Verizon for a while. Verizon did nothing to promote the Eris when it was released the same day as the Moto Droid. Yes, there are Christmas commercials out now, but it's kinda too little, too late compared to the dollars they put into the Moto Droid release. And TMobile was the first carrier to have a HTC Android phone in the US (TMo G1), so HTC may like the idea of them getting the 1st 1Ghz Android phone.

First off all that GSM Bravo talk is due to a European catalog, so what would you expect?
Would HTC really expect a big sales push for the Eris, which is basically the third interation of the Hero which has been around a year if not more. I'd bet they got a little now for alot later. With the features they've been advertising Verizon could replace the droid with the Passion in the commercials.

I agree with you man but thats why it is called rumors. I find it hilarious that everyone is obsessing over the april date and tmobile. (Not directed at you) OF COURSE IT WAS A FREAKING TMO CATALOG!!!!!! HTC said that VZW was getting the passion/dragon in one of my earlier links. VZW wont get it in December so all of you wishing just keep wishing. Look for it after Jan 15th.

No official confirmation really doesn't mean much. For instance one blackberry went from FCC to launch in like 12 days. As far as Verizon announcing the phone officially, they announced the Eris a day before they launched it. The Droid was officially announced a week before it launched. So the Passion can pass the FCC by Dec 24, announced by Verizon on the 31st and launch the 6th and you STILL wouldn't have heard anything official by now. But once you start getting more pics and specs launch is close.

That is why I was confused when I went into the store on Day 1. I had never heard of the Eris before I went into the store that morning. Yeah it shouldn't take long to get FCC approval on a new phone-they aren't changing the operating fequency and most of the components are the same.
All I was saying is that "Bravo = Passion" is not official (yet?), which is contrary to the impression I got from the OP.
Here is the sentence I think you were looking for to help clarify things for you.
"The handset in question is the HTC Bravo, a Snapdragon-powered Android phone, which is now said to turn out into none other than the already rumored / leaked HTC Passion."
Is that just some other prototype? I don't understand...how does it just disappear?
I'm getting a phone by the end of December and it looks like it's going to have to end up being the Droid. ...not that it's a bad phone or anything but... yah know...

They are different models of the same phone...1st photo = Bravo = overseas...2nd photo = Passion = States. Dragon = ??? = Hasn't been pictured yet.... At least my opinoin.

The second picture I would wager is what Verizon either was getting or is getting as their new droid phone. This is due to the 4 touch screen buttons at the bottom which would fit the pattern of the Moto Droid and Droid Eris (which went against the previous designs of Hero) as all three then would have the same number and function of buttons. Or it was just a prototype.
I hope that VZW gets the one without the trackball. From what I have heard most people do not even use it and from my friends with blackberrys it seems to break a lot and get real dirty causing unwanted jumping.
Remember when computer mice had mouseballs? And how dirty and nasty they got? Now imagine carrying that around in your pocket for a year or two. No thanks!

That was my only concern. But I heard that the Bravo was supposed to be optical instead of a track ball. That sounds a lot better then a track ball and hope they replace the track ball on the passion with that. Or am reading things wrong?
Agree very much with the last couple posters. I definitely prefer the optical pad. One thing that bothered me from the original leaked image of the device with a 'trackball' was that it didn't have a shadow like a three d ball should even in direct light, but I just assumed it was and took everyone elses word for it. It may have always had a optical or touch pad of some sort. Was I just making that up in my head because I didn't want a trackball, or anyone else agree with that novice assesment? Thoughts? BTW this really is a meaningless post I know, but I'm bored at work and it's too friggin cold to go outside and smoke.
Here is my 2 cents on the "trackball" thing. If you are going to design a really nice touch screen phone, there is no need for a trackball or an optical pad thing. the only buttons i can see a use for is a dedicated camera button and a lock button. I think it makes the phone look a lot cleaner. The Eris has a trackball and people are saying that they don't use it. I think it will end up like the physical keyboard on the Droid, you'll forget its there. BUT i dont care if they put it on or not hahaha.

Trackballs = mouseballs.
The track ball in phones like blackberry and HTC Eris is completely different from Mouse track balls. The Eris track ball is fantastic for browsing the web and selecting links/button on webpages. You have no idea.

Totally agree. Thought it was a trackball because what else would it be. Now, though, I can see a lack of depth that would make sense if it was a trackpad. I actually like the idea of no moving parts to gum up. I'm excited about this feature, among others. Can't wait for this phone to get announced, let alone released!
I wrote this in another post but no one has realized that the original passion photo does not make sense. It has a Motorola key on an HTC phone. The menu key thats on the droid appears in that photo rather than the normal word menu that shows up on HTC phones. Which makes me think it was altered somewhat so who knows what it has.

Maybe its fake. Or maybe its meant to be part of the Droid lineup and Verizon asked for a different menu button to match the droids 4 buttons (notice how the 2 droids have 4 touchscreen buttons).
It seems on at least 2 of the models (Buzz for sure and Photon maybe) from the leaked 2010 lineup HTC has changed the menu key. so it could just be they're trying out new designs and what was pictured was a prototype.

I respectfully beg to differ. My I've gone through two HTC Touch (VX6900) phones due to dead/dying touchscreens. The only things that made them useable until the replacemnt came were the face buttons. To my experience, limited it may be, touchscreens are unreliable and prone to getting easily busted or inaccurate (like if scratched). Face buttons make the phone still useable.
Unlikely it may be, I'm still hoping for a physical keyboard as a backup.

On the hero/eris I used it all the time. As a business user the trackball is essential on android because the cut and paste is terrible and just placing the cursor accurately by finger touch on a capacitive screen is a bitch.
I think its safe to say this thing wont be out anytime soon in the US? For sure not Jan like the rumors claimed as fact
I agree. All these rumors are coming off of blog sites and internet forums. The HTC roadmap lists April as the release date for the HTC Bravo. It's April. As much as others may want it earlier, it's not coming out earlier. HTC has been very accurate and reliable with their release dates. If they say April, it means April.

Yea, but its April for the UK release. Still no guarantee it even comes to the US.

VZW BABY!!! Where's my 100,000,000 bucks?
She said that? Do you think she was thinking about the Nexus?

Thats what she said. But you could be right. Obviously as all of us doing the research, trying to get some real information have found, the verizon reps seem to not know too much.
I am under the same impression as some of the other guys here that verizon wont want to harm the palm pre plus and pixi plus sales so we are going to be waiting a while.
I have long debated about the Eris myself. My contract was up in Nov and I am dying to get a new phone cause mine is falling apart. Ill probably make some phone calls and store visits tomorrow and see what I come up with.

My contact was up in October. I wouldn't mind the Pre though. Keep in mind that the ERIS has a very laggy keyboard. If that is something you can't stand, or if you are a fast phone typer, then don't get it.
I thought the eris has multi-touch on the keyboard (or chording as google calls it)?
It is laggy?
darn, i was thinking about getting it for the interim.
theres no release date/carrier for the Bravo in the US yet. that is a fact.
Oh. It isn't. Well, it is only, as in ONE and ONLY, going to be released in Europe? Well, you could have fooled me. Gee. Now, the almighty forum nerds are saying its ONLY Europe! Ha!

Hey Stinky, I mean Blinky, why don't you not post anymore since all you do is criticize or tell people they are wrong, without providing any information other than telling them they are wrong.

Haha! Garbage. Pure trash. Reporting on rumors = the same thing as speculating on rumors. So, don't act like you are some sort of expert. You are not. Nobody on this forum (me included) is. So, step back from the keyboard. Take a nice deep breath. And count to 10.
