Default 5 stages of the HTC Passion

This thread probably should go in the lounge, but with the posts of the last week, it looks like we need an outlet to vent. I would guess that most of us trolling the HTC Passion threads are devoted Verizon customers. Most (not all) of the GSM crowd jumped ship when the Nexus One sub-forum was formed.

There are 5 stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, & Acceptance

I know I've jumped between all 5 over the past couple of months. Currently I'm mostly Accepting (resigned to wait on solid news/release dates), but that's not to say some days I'm deep in Anger or Depression over Passion/Bravo/Incredible/etc news.

Where are you today, and why?

I've cycled to the end in a rather short period of time, so put me at acceptance. Why? Well, I've been through this before and I've been on the hunt for a new smartphone since the end of July. What's another month...or two...or three...or six. Hey, it pales in comparison to the 20 months on contract I might get stuck with something that doesn't quite meet my expectations.

I agree this Passion forum has only Verizon customers left. I think everyone simply needs to accept that Verizon is not getting any kind of HTC SnapDragon based phone anytime in the near future.

I'm going to wait till we see what happens during CES. If we don't hear a peep out of HTC by then, I'm going to give up and just look for an eris.

Same here, but probably off ebay so I can do month-to-month. No chance I'm committing the next 20 months of my service to such an outdated piece of hardware.

Got my droid on craigslist for $250 and it was only a week old. Totally legit. Using it now and I love it.

Peeps here in Phoenix are listing them for 400-500. HA. I decided to be a D!CK (or help out others, depending which side of the transaction you're on) and posted the following ad also on CL...

Just a heads up for all those looking to buy or sell their Motorola Droids (for $400-$500)

there will be a bunch of new phone coming out soon, so don't overpay for current phone. - The current phones, (whether new in box or used) will plummet in price, and those who are trying to get over 400 dollars will be stuck.

SO, buyers, hold out a little longer.

Don't believe me? Goggle the following words all in one search... android phone january htc bravo passion dragon

I tried getting one for the same price off craigslist in Frankfort KY, but the seller never responded. You didn't get my Droid, did you? lol

I am see the eris on verizon's site for 169. after rebate for a 1 yr. then you can upgrade at 10 months later. No deal better than that on ebay or craigslist.
of course, if the passion comes out after 30 days, i would then add a line, drop original line to a minimum $10/month and the difference would be $120 more. Still only $289 total.
just food for thought.

I don't have a problem shelling out 290 for the phone b/c if i decide on one of the new phones on contract I'll just sell it to a buddy of mine or give it to a family member. My option is more of a stopgap until a decent new phone comes out for Verizon. If I sell it to someone after i pick my new one up ill probably only by out 50 or 60 bucks so no big deal

That's why i paid an extra $100 to do a 1-year contract on the Eris. I really like the Eris but would like a faster browsing experience and better/better screen even better!

Amazon has the Motorola Droid without contract for $530...they probably have the Eris too but I didn't check....ok I just checked and they have it for $419.99
http://www.amazon.com/Droid-Phone-Verizon-Wireless-Service/dp/B002VU700K/ref=cell_dp_woplan

Note: I never bought a phone from Amazon on or off contract but the pricing seems good.

Im trying hard to hold out till CES is done...

Actually, I lose my $50 NE2 credit with a one year deal so it's not really that great. It's actually $129 for me (discount through my employer?) for 1 year. I just couldn't deal with the fact that if the Passion..er..whatever is out even as late as April that I'll have to wait 6 more months. Still too long. Besides, how is $169 better than anything on Craigslist or Ebay? If you can land an Eris for $300 on ebay and flip it for at least $150 (yeah, you'll get that, maybe more) even in April, seems to me you spent less, get to take your upgrade 6 months sooner (really, whenever you want), and don't lose your NE2. Better deal.

Also, you can't drop your original line to $10 a month. You're required to carry data on contract so if you got a second smartphone, the best you could drop it to is $40 ($10+$30) per month. Ouch!

Believe me, I've considered several scenarios. Landing a droid for $250 is an absolute steal such that you can probably flip it within a few months at zero loss, maybe even make money if it's pristine.

As I said above, even 10 months is too long. The contract on my wife's line is up in June and she has said I could use it so that I can just get what I want now. While that's a good scenario, I personally don't want to burn her upgrade and stick her with keeping her env2 another 2 years. I don't think she cares too much about having a smartphone and I'm not interested in carrying two data plans @ $30 each if I give her the Eris.

The Eris is $469 through Verizon so $50 less isn't that great of a deal from Amazon. The best deal is still far and away on Ebay. What you have there is all the guys who bought up Droids and Eris' before 11/15 so they only paid $150 termination. Tack on whatever contract price (Eris - $99 through Verizon, probably less through Best Buy or elsewhere) and that's their bottom line cost.

Wrong. You pay the termination fee AND you have to return the phone back to Verizon.

No, you're wrong. Within the 30 day return period, if you cancel your service you have to return the phone to avoid the ETF. After 30 days, you pay the ETF whether you return the phone or not. The whole reason they cranked the ETF was because people were scamming them to flip phones on ebay and elsewhere.

Was gone on vacay for a week and didn't check this forum any of those days. I did, however, get to see the news and they showed the Nexus One being announced. I still don't think it's very pretty. I think at this point, I am at Acceptance. No matter what I cannot upgrade my phone til February anyways. So I have decided to set my heart on an Eris (although the Imagio looks nice and is being considered). At least by doing that I'm not teasing myself with a ghost phone. Then IF by some miracle chance, the planets all align, the moon turns blue, all the rainbows are upside down, and an incendiary cyclonic macro-system forms a hemispheric mega-storm, breaking down the molecular structure of the atmosphere and actually changes the laws of nature and the entire fabric of space time splits in two allowing this ghost phone to become reality....then that would just be dandy.

I agree about not teasing oneself with a "ghost phone" or as others have put it, vaporware. But I'm not one to settle either. The Eris doesn't cut it for 2010 and the Droid isn't a one-size-fits-all device. I'm getting close to buying a new battery for my power-deficient Razr and saying "see ya" to Verizon's sales department until next Fall. It's going to take more than smoke and mirrors to entice me to make the move to a more profitable service subscription with Big Red.
