Default Does the display scratch easily ?

For folks who have had the resound a week or so does it scratch easily ? I've not found any drop or scratch tests on the inet and it is not clear what kind of glass they use (though I'm sure it is hardened).

I'm the sort of person who will not use a case and want to be able to drop it in my pocket and not worry about it (usually a coat pocket). And yea I normally put my keys in the other pocket.

I have been carrying mine in either coat or jeans pocket. I have not placed a screen protector on it yet. If in the jeans pocket there is a leather wallet in same pocket. No issues with scratches.

Been carrying it around naked in my jean pocket w/ no issues. Did the same with my DINC and never had any significant scratches (just a very minor one that was hardly noticible in the corner of the screen).

Same experience here. Had it for a week carrying it with no case or screen protector. I'm extremely careful though, but no scratches. Would still like to know just how strong the glass is though so I can have a little more peace of mind.

i have no case or screen protector. i have a scratch on mine. it lasted about a week. it is about 1/4" long and it's fairly deep. it is not too noticeable when the screen is on only when it's off. i have no idea how i did it, but i can tell you i just kind of throw it in my purse, so my guess is that it was my keys or something. i try to be careful, but it just didn't happen! i'm not too upset about it anymore. it is what it is. i love love love my phone though!!

I don't think the screen scratches easily either, but I didn't want to take any chances and have a screen protector on mine. No case though.

The screen scratches fairly easily. I would recommend a screen protector for the Rezound.

I just ordered a Zagg from past experience but others have recommended Steinheil - I'm just not patient enough to wait on them to get one for the Rezound.

I emailed SGP Store this morning about the Rezound. This is the response I got; no Steinheil for us:

I have not noticed any scratches on mine at all. I wouldn't say that the screen scratches easily. I think that if you take just a bit of care you wouldn't need a screen protecdtor.

Knock on wood i have yet to scratch this ridiculously beutiful phone... I had the bionic and carried it naked all the time and it supposedly had gorrilla glass on it but by a week into it there were tiny little scratches all over the piece of crap. Im pretty darn happy with the screen toughness on the rezound so far!

Do you have one of those emery boards floating around in that purse? If so I'd bet that is the culprit. I read somewhere that sand can scratch most any glass, even gorilla glass.

Zero scratches for me so far... I'm babying this thing big time though, just incase I trade her in for the nexus.

How have your back plates been holding up? Any scratches?

I just, for science, put my car keys to my screen. Nothin but a near heart-attack. If i had a video camera I would record it for you all, but i bet someone did it on youtube already. I will say that compared to the D2 (which was Gorilla Glass) this screen feels more...soft? I can't really describe it, maybe the D2's glass was thicker or something.

OK, no, you don't "try to be careful", you "kind of throw it in your purse"...

That's why your screen is scratched.

If you actually did "try to be careful" you may very well not have a scratch right now.

I just wanted to check again if folks (who do not use a screen protector) have had issues with scratches ?
-
Now that the gnexus is out it comes time to buy a phone. Still debating between the three but I'm leaning towards the rezound (yesterday it was the razr; but to be honest I prefer the razr sound quality and reception but think I would be happier with the rezound - wish it didn't have icq)
-
Please don't get hung up on the comment above but do fill me in on scratch/cracked/no scratched displays !

Um why would you not have a screen protector? If its put on correctly and isn't junk it doesnt hurt anything, the screen on this phone is too sensitive anyway it may help with that. Me I got a full body skin and a tpu case, I plan on getting $200 for this thing in 2 years, just sold my dinc for $120.

Not really relevant to the question; but in all my usage of touch screen devices and protectors; protectors really hurt the visbility and response. I tend to not use case or screen protectors; though perhaps I might consider a tpu case on a super thin device.

I have not had a screen protector on mine yet, and I have no scratched whatsoever. But I should say that mine is in the holster unless I'm using it.

And to answer Kane5581, I don't like screen protectors because I don't like what they do to the visibility or the sensitivity.

I feel that the screen does scratch easily. I had a couple appear within 4 weeks that are deep enough for me to easily feel with my fingernail. i take good care of my phones and had my last iphone (4) without a screen protector for 7 months and got no scratches.

i brought it back within my return period for this reason and am using my old iphone. going to probably get another rezound but put a screen protector on it day 1

Ditto on the scratches. I never got anything like this on my OG droid, and I know over time I took less and less care of how I handled my phone. Already half a dozen scratches on this thing and I am still in the "babying" stage with it. Good news is that when I applied a screen skin from best skins ever, I can't even see the scratches anymore.

That is cool that they let you return it for that reason.
I got a small scratch on my rez on day one. I was just sitting around downloading apps. I cannot believe I already got a scratch. I had my iPad for a year before I got a single scratch on it.

I am so disappointed.

Had my Rezound for 4 days and got a scratch on it today. Long 2 incher right across the face and can feel it if I run my nail over it. I just keep it in my jeans pocket like i have with all my other phones. Had the DINC2 for a year and used it the same way, worse towards the end, end the screen is flawless..

I'm thinking of returning it since the battery life is awful compared to the Dinc2 and wait till ICS comes out or a new phone that has a better battery and glass...

crazy.

Screen is definitely nothing like a phone with gorilla glass. I treat my Rezound exactly how I treated my EVO. Always in a pocket without keys or coins or anything that could potentially damage it.

I have 3-4 micro scratches on the Rezound after 3 months. Almost 2 years with the EVO and not one scratch. Both are naked without protectors.

do you guys know how you got a scratch on your phone?

I've had mine for almost 3 weeks, no case, no screen protector, nothing of the like and no scratches. I've kept it in my front pocket in both a jean and slacks. I've tried to take good care of it as well.

Pretty much exactly what sdsubasketball said. I've had this phone since the morning of release.(9AM) I have no screen protector and got my case after roughly 2 weeks or so. I carry it in my front or cargo pocket and the only precaution I take is to be sure not to put my keys in the same pocket. I don't have a single scratch on it. I have no clue why some people think this phone screen is easy to scratch. As for the whole "Gorilla Glass' thing I don't understand why that keeps coming back up. It's just a term not a super soldier serum for cellphone glass. One company trademarked the term and that's it. As I understand it(not an expert on the subject) the basic ingredients in most modern smartphone screens are pretty much on par with one another. Another company could trademark the term Super Duper Heavy Duty Magilla Gorilla Glass but that won't necessarily make it any different/better than the majority of the other manufacturers product. Man I'll tell you one thing, Corning should give who ever thought of trademarking that name a HUGE bonus because that PR stunt worked like a charm! By the way, I am in no way saying Corning's glass isn't good, just that now a days it's become so synonymous with semi-unbreakable screen glass that people think anything else just doesn't work. Sorta like how "ipod" doesn't even mean an ipod anymore it's become a generic term for mp3 player now...lol.

There are Gorilla Glass fanbois out there who absolutely refuse to understand that Gorilla Glass is simply an industrial process trademarked by Corning, there is nothing magic to it. There are many other processes that provide equal or better protection against scratches.

Anecdotes typed into Internet forums do NOT constitute a scientific study.

The screen of the Rezound is ABSOLUTELY NOT any more prone to scratches than any other screen.

Thank you, drive through.

I dropped my first Rezound on a tile floor. Really couldn't tell how it landed. It was from about chair height. Not a single scratch on the screen. My second Rezound I've had for over a month. No screen protector, no case. No scratches on the screen. I carry the phone in my jeans back pocket, mostly.

Well all glass is actually a liquid, a very dense liquid. Gorilla glass and any others have a hardening agent in them to mayke the glass more resilient to change and scratches, no impervious. Even bulletproof glass will scratch or become marred. The upcoming holograpic displays will make this all obsolete in the future.

My Rezound is still in good condition, I do use a CruzerLite case (with Androidguy) and it is still in A1 shape.

Gorilla glass is actually a super soldier serum for cellphone glass. I know this because I used cerium oxide (used for polishing diamonds) to try to polish out some fine scratches from a phone. I gave up after 3 hours when I ran out of polishing wheels.

A word to the wise, from my experience: if you get one of those flexible gel cases for your Rezound (they come in various colors) and you have a screen protector, use a Dremel type tool, file, or even razor blade to shave a tiny bit off the top and bottom before you put the case on.

I got the regular screen protectors at Verizon when I got my phone, but less than a couple weeks later the bottom was peeling up and dust was filling the gap. I went to the local mall and got a Zagg Invisishield, and within a day it started coming up too. I went back with my receipt, and they suggested using a Dremel to carefully sand off about 1mm of material on that sharp edge, both top and bottom. They told me this was a common problem because the lower edge rubs up against the screen cover, prying it up. They replaced my screen cover, and I went ahead and used my Dremel tool, knowing my case is too old to take back anyways, so I might as well modify it.

Sure, it has only been a day, but it fixed my problem and the case doesn't even touch the screen cover now!

Just a head's up!
