They'll probably send you a refurb. Verizon's refurb process is somewhat hellish to say the least. As far as HTC, they can help as well, but they won't send you a replacement phone until they get yours or you put down a deposit in the amount of the phone first.
i got my rezound from the corp store. cant i just go in, show them the buttons that they are defective and then they just replace it with one that had "Red" buttons? I'm not trying to be picky but if I'm paying 300 for a phone I want it to be perfect. Everything on my Rezound is so far except the buttons. It looks pink to me to others it looks a little washed out.

You can try, but if you get an associate like the ones I got below, good luck.

The last time I went to a Verizon store it was because my Thunderbolt refurb had a lifted screen. Everyone at the store claimed the phone's screen was fine. Since then I've just decided to speak directly to Customer Service.

Make sure you explain to them that it's less than 14 days old or else they'll try to send you a refurb. If it's a few days over 14 days then ask them if they can make an exception for you. They tend to be sticklers about the 14 days.
Greetings neeb rezound user with a quick question I just rece
ived my replacement rezound yesterday and although the screen isn't going out on this unit it has the same light leak my 1st had with the additional pink buttons this time. Not sure if I want to put in another warranty claim, is there anyway to fix or change the colors. Have read abut a few actually changing the lights not sure how doe, thanks

I got a GNEX right before Christmas and was told I had until Jan 15th to exchange. I made the exchange a few days ago. I'm still under that 14 days policy, right?
I will not take NO for answer from them, I love the phone but the pink buttons make me feel like I was cheated out of a good phone. Are they able to open every box until they find one that works, lol? Say the activate a new one there for me and it still has the pink buttons, do they just give me another one? I dont know how to go about this at all?

Find someone with red buttons and have them go into the Verizon store with you, or compare it to the floor model. Also, one thing someone suggested is the pink buttons are typically accompanied by "light leak" near the bottom of the trim on the phone screen so if they don't think the color is a big deal, look for light leakage on the phone that's generally a quality issue that they should be ok with covering.

I noticed the light leakage right off the bat..and also have the pink tint. So your saying there's rezounds out there that dont have the light leakage(easily seen when lookin from the top of the phone). Honestly I'd feel like a a**hole returning my phone because of the pink tint though if the light leakage isn't normal and is a quality issue, I would reconsider.
Yea my first rezound had no problems what so ever ,no leak no buttons etc, unfortunately I had exchanged it for a galaxy nexus. Wasn't really looking to trade it in again regardless of the light leak but really was curious if there was a quick fix

It might be related. I can only base it on my phone, which actually has some light leakage and I'd say it's not exactly pink. You can tell them that you're returning it because it has light leakage, which may be easier for you than to say, "My buttons are pink". Oh and if you're discussing your phone with a female rep, don't just blurt out, "My buttons are pink" else you could get slapped....

lol yeah ill say light leakage and if they ask well what does that mean ill say the buttons should be red not pink and ill tell them that i compared my phone with a rezound from another store. they have to honor it right?

I wouldn't trust Verizon to honor anything to be quite honest. You could call in tech support, but if your luck is anything like mine, you'll get some rube that wants to troubleshoot your "pink buttons" via "Ok lets pull the battery out of the phone and press the pink power ranger button".....

i had my gf go in today, i thought maybe they would go easier on a female no luck.
they "looked" at the demo unit and it had pinkish buttons so they said thats how it is, that it looks different to each person, lol. they told her they went into the back and checked out another rezound too and it was also the same color but they didnt show it in front of her.
the one rep even said that they had to activate the phone to see the buttons light up lol. i told them that all you had to do was put your hand over the ear piece to get the lights to come on. they tried to play me.
so i dont know what to do. i guess ill try calling vzw tomorrow instead of going into the store. but i dont know how i can get a "proper" rezound when the demo unit has pink buttons too?

That's the rub, finding a unit that has actual red buttons to compare.
For the record, mine looks like the 3rd one (the "more red" one) but then again, I'd say I'm a manly-man so that's to be expected. I think Chuck Norris's Rezound is the only one that has a more manly red. Of course I can't confirm it because it's such a manly red that if you look directly at it you'll go blind....

I appreciate the humor, LOL, your actually cheering me up! This is the red I'm talking about:
That should be all of our phones. Mine is more like the 4th picture from BGR. I made another post hopefully when I call VZW tomorrow they can actually do something about this. I just don't know why this is such a pet peeve to me? Maybe b/c of the $600 price tag.

That's actually a very dim looking red IMO. Mine's a little brighter than that red. Also, if you noticed the red you posted was a dark pic and the actual subject (the screens themselves) is brighter than the image. I checked the settings to see if you could dial down the brightness of the buttons, but it only works on the screen brightness. It would be nice to dim down the buttons when you don't need them so bright (like watching a movie). Maybe someone will find a way to do it via root.

Ok we can rip it apart and put in some fancy cool blue LEDs! With the red overlay it'll look like.... fuschia!!
i said fuschia just to annoy TxGoat ha ha
ok ok fine... they use white LEDs in there for the 4 buttons (view from the top side of the touchscreen/LCD downwards). So.... it may look a little lighter than red
bye

I went to a Verizon store about 40 minutes from my house, had a doctor appt out that way. They had 2 rezounds on display one in the front and one hidden in the back. The front one was pink and the CSR said it was normal so I knew he was bullshitting me. I kept looking around and i found another one in the back that was red or better than what my phone was. I was so pumped bc I thought i was going insane for the past week. I went back to the greeter and told him that my phone is defected. He took me to another csr and they thought i was crazy. They did admit my phone was pink. So after a half hour of them trying to act smart, resetting my phone lol. They brought a new one out and wa la its much better. I finally can enjoy my phone now.

So has anyone taken this into their own hands and fixed it? The replacement Rezound I got for the vibrating trim around the USB port (which this phone STILL has and they refused to swap) has definitely pinker menu and back buttons. Is it a simple thing to take it apart then color the bottom side red or something to make the capacitive buttons look proper red? I'm not even sure it's worth voiding the hardware warranty to do that, but if it's simple enough I may try it.
I saw the app called "screen filter" that can turn the buttons off. Wish there was a way to do that without having to have an app running the whole time. Just a simple thing that I could have run at startup once and disable them.
So just looking for any DIY fixit ideas for the pink buttons!

Well I know that the rom in this link has an option that lets you turn off the soft key lights permanently.
But I don't know if it's worth installing a whole rom just for that option (though it is a fabulous rom).
However, I'd hold off from any DIY stuff for now. After all, if it's available in the rom, you may be able to contact the dev and ask him if how the tweak works. It could be as simple as running a simple script. Also, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that someone wrote a script for the HTC EVO that allowed for the disabling AND dimming of the soft key lights. Seeing how the EVO is also an HTC phone, maybe someone will write a script that will do the same thing for the rezound.

You could purchase one and see how the screen is seated and see how the red is integrated into the screen. Hell if I swapped out the screen I'd be tempted to replace the film with a different color.
You can use this to disable the LEDs behind the capacitive buttons.
Going to try it in a few. Sweet!
*edit* Just to be clear, you must be rooted in order to do this, since you need to be able to remount /system read/write.
Works like a charm! I've never done android development, but I may make a simple widget that does this for rooted phones in case people want a quick way to toggle them on/off.

Awesome find! I didn't have the success that you had however. Can you please let me know what I did wrong?
I added this to the init.post_boot.sh file:
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p29 /system
chmod 777 /sys/devices/platform/leds-pm8058/leds/button-backlight/brightness
echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/leds-pm8058/leds/button-backlight/brightness
chmod 444 /sys/devices/platform/leds-pm8058/leds/button-backlight/brightness
mount -o ro,remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p29 /system
It's not working for me, lights still come one. Is there a part of that block of text that I wasn't supposed to include?
If you can give me a quick step-by-step, that would be awesome!

[root required] Toggle capacitive LEDs on/off/auto(stock, using light sensor)
Quote:

I wrote a tiny little script that can be used to do one of the following:
- turn capacitive lights off entirely
- reset back to the stock behavior (use of the light sensor to turn them on/off as needed)
Instructions for use:
NOTE: You must be rooted for this to work. This also assumes you know how to use adb and it's in your path (or you put leds.sh in the same directory as the adb.exe file).
1. Download the attached leds.sh script
2. With adb, copy the leds.sh script to /sdcard:
go to the folder containing leds
adb push leds.sh /sdcard/leds.sh
3. Run the following (from the same command prompt) to turn the leds off:
adb shell su -c "/system/bin/sh /sdcard/leds.sh off"
4. Alternatively, if you want to put it back to auto, run:
adb shell su -c "/system/bin/sh /sdcard/leds.sh on"
Note: when you turn the leds on, if your screen is off they will still come on. Don't worry, they aren't stuck on, they will turn off once you turn the screen on in a bright area or just turn the screen on then back off again.
People who install a terminal app, you can use that to run the commands in steps 3 or 4, but just remove the "adb shell" part from the commands. So for example, to turn off, run:
su -c "/system/bin/sh /sdcard/leds.sh on"
Let me know if any of you have any trouble with the script. I'd love to make this a simple widget, but I have never written any android apps or widgets. It'd be trivial to wrap the above steps up in a widget for someone with experience. Maybe I'll try to learn sometime soon and make a free app widget to do this. In the meantime, you can use the above to turn them off completely or put it back to auto.
*edit* Simpler instructions by using su -c, no need to manually adb shell, su, etc.

That's awesome, thanks for the hard work on this! I don't see the file attached however.
The only issue is that I don't know anything about ADB or how to use it. I do know how to get around in Terminal however. Are you saying that I can just run line #3 from your instructions in Terminal and it will work? Or do I need to do something with your file before that?

Sorry for the noob questions.
Are you already rooted? If not, you will need to either gain temporary root to be able to run the commands as root (with su) or unlock your bootloader and permaroot the phone. Either way, you need root in order to run this unfortunately. There are a couple apps in the market that can achieve this, but they have to remain running and must do something in userland to force the lights off. This method I described actually turns the LEDs off and then prevents the system from touching the file that controls whether they can turn on/off.

Thanks!
Ok, without adb, you can just unzip it and copy the leds.sh file to your sdcard (or internal sdcard, either should work).
Then install the "terminal emulator" app on the market (it's the first one that should come up in a search for terminal emulator. Then once that's installed, run it and you'll get a prompt with a $. Type in: su and hit enter, then click allow when SuperUser asks you if you want to allow it. Then your prompt should change to a #. At that point, just run the command:
/system/bin/sh /sdcard/leds.sh off
If you copied it to the external (removable) sdcard, just change /sdcard to /sdcard2.
Let me know if you have any trouble!

That sounds easy enough, thanks so much! I will report back with the results!
Oh, and you should start a new thread on this and it should be stickied! This helps me in two ways.
1. I have pinkish buttons when the LED's light up, so that won't be an issue anymore!
2. When the LED's light up, it makes the bottom portion of my screen a little washed out on a dark background since the light from the LED's comes through a little bit. This will also fix that issue!

Just wanted to chime in, I ordered a Rezound from Amazon Wireless on Dec 28. It arrived with pink buttons. I thought I could live with it, but the longer I had the phone the more I wanted the deep red buttons. So I called Amazon Wireless and they sent me out a replacement no questions asked. It arrived 2 days ago, and unfortunately its buttons were even pinker.
So it is on its way back, and they are sending me another. Third time is a charm, right?
But thanks ahead of time for the disable backlight mod posted above; should the new phone have even pinker buttons, I will definitely make use of it.

Another thing to try is... change that default wallpaper (or whatever wallpaper) that has too much red or deep red in it. Then our red buttons look better... otherwise there is some visual competition or perception issue... and our eyes think these buttons are not red-red when there is too much dark red on the nearby wallpaper...
