Default Data loss on rezound

I keep losing my data connection.

I will use it all day then all of the sudden i go to get on something web based it i have no data, it has turned itself off. Then to turn it back on I have to do airplane mode then back (mobile data is grayed out in settings before this) at which point I only have 1x unless I reboot . Should I go to verizon for a replacement or does anyone know of a fix. Getting tired of rebooting just to get 4G/3G back. I have strong 4G signal all day and at home and throughout my drive home.

I wonder if you don't have a bad sim card.

On day 4 of my alcohol wipe and letting it sleep test. Even if this isn't a permanent fix it has lasted longer than it used to without having to reset it.

For those with issues, do you let it sleep at night and have you tried wiping the sim with alcohol (rubbing or sanitizer type... contact/electrical cleaner would probably work too).

Just posted about this same issue. Will try wiping the sim card to see if it helps. It only happens to me in bad reception areas tho.

Anyone seen this problem after swapping batteries?

I was using the standard battery for the last 3 months without any problems - absolutely beautiful connections.
Now, I put in an extended battery and first off it wouldn't connect to ANY signal until I turned on 4G. Then, it was stuck at 1x, but it seems to have recovered from that. now, while it seems to report better signal than before (dBm), when I try to update Amazon App store, or use Splashtop, it keeps dropping the signal - I can watch it drop the 3G/4G icon and then I'll get an error that there is no signal, but then the icon comes right back.

Anyone found a similar effect? I can't find it on the boards or through a Google search so far.
And could this really be the battery causing it?!? (I would guess a bad back/antenna thing instead)

Yea...I read that article before. Great info for those that dont know. This part is interesting and something I've noticed with the G Nex, RAZR and Rezound:

Quote:
The severity of the problem can depend on your device. Some devices are more likely to re-attempt authentication immediately, and ten or fifteen seconds later, you're good to go. Some won't - and have to be forced to re-authenticate by switching in and out of airplane mode. Some won't even respond to that, and have to be powered on and off. Our speculation in regards to the varying severity is that it more than likely depends on how aggressive the phone's battery conservation software is. If a device loses connection, it may think it's in a "fringe" coverage zone and stop attempting to reconnect to the network to avoid wasting battery. It could also be that the device's software is just poorly written to deal with such regular failed attempts to get network authentication.
Hate to say it...but so far....I have one phone thats the least annoying with data issues....and it isnt the Rezound...

But I will try that alcohol sim wipe today and see if it helps.

Huge thing I just found out (I may be behind the 8-ball when it came to this, but I found out from Verizon tech support that dialing *228 on ANY 4G device literally degrades/damages your SIM card.

When I first got my phone, guess what, I did what every other phone I've ever had I needed to do - I dialed *228. So, when I put in my new battery and it wouldn't connect (because I had 4G off I think now), I went in and tried to do *228 at least twice. I think I did it again after I turned on 4G and got a signal too.

End result? I had to go into a Verizon store to get a new SIM.
So - the alcohol bit is great if the problem is in the phone's physical connection to the SIM card, however if you have every done *228, you may want to review getting a replacement SIM if Verizon will do so for free for you.

With my new SIM I'm connecting up normally I have been doing well on connections, a few wierd blips at times, but I think that's software, and I've even been able to use Splastop to connect to my laptop over 4G.

I believe this has been debunked as an urban myth. The Rezound automatically dials *228 at first activation.

yeah it doesn't make sense that dialing a number would hurt your card, especially when it doesn't even try to connect to do the PRL update it just prompts you with a message.

BTW still haven't lost my 3G/4G data since my sim/battery cleaning.

Happy high dbm issue

I got my rezound about 1 1/2 mos ago along with my wifes bionic. We ordered online at Verizon. I wanted to upgrade mine to an extended battery so I ordered on Amazon about 3 weeks after receiving my ph. I had a data loss issue and ph shutting off on its own within that 1st 3 weeks before i upgraded battery but i had awesome signal strenth. After I received my ext battery and cover i gradually began to experience low signal strength and high dbm. I tried all the tricks i saw here and no luck. So before bed last night I figured is go back to old battery and back cover. Instantly i regained all my bars and im down to 90 dBm from 105 dbm. It seems those contacts in cover are for antenna. If stinks because now im without ext battery. Oh well I'd rather be able to make and take calls. By the way I'm on my 2nd rezound.
