Default Download notification won't go away

I downloaded a gmail attachment, the download icon and download status on the status bar and status drop down menu will not go away.

I have tried the clear button, restarting and taken the battery out for a couple of minutes, deleted the email, cleared all caches but the the icon and status is still there. As far as I can tell this problem is also using 33mb of the processor..

Please help!

This might help:
Settings, Apps, All, choose Downloads, clear Cache and Data.

Hi Harry -

The clear cache button was greyed out so I pressed clear data. This solved the problem but also cleared all my downloads.

Cleared the download history, the downloaded files should be in the folder Download
