Default HTC sensation problem, help please.

Hope to have a little help here, ive got the htc sensation black, i've had the odd battery running out really quick problem for a while. but about an hour ago i got a system update, i had lowish battery, but the it was completed fine, as the phone tried to boot up it only got as far as the white htc screen then went black again, and it repeats over and over, not getting any further than that screen. i was wondering if anyone had any ideas?

Did you put the phone on the charger while updating?

With the last HTC updates phones shouldn't be charged while updating.

Well you can try a factory reset from hboot. If that doesn't work, you may have to run an ruu because it sounds like you may have a bad install. There are a lot of variants based on location but you can check here:

FileFactory Folder View - Pyramid

All files are courtesy of xda user football.

Does your hboot have a fastboot option in it? If so, you can run an ruu from the fastboot option. If it won't let you even select that, your only remaining option would be to install it from the sdcard while in hboot as it will auto detect the file in that instance. I'll look around and see if I can find the correct zip, otherwise we can extract it from the proper ruu. Any of those files I linked look like one for your phone?

Plug it in, good chance it'll take a charge even though you can't see it working. Again, we have to figure out which ruu you need. Are you with a particular service provider? What part of the world are you in? This may help us narrow it down.

the thing is, as soon as i plug it in, the orange light comes on for about 5 seconds, then goes off. And without pressing anything it powers on and then continues too come up the white screen like i've mentioned over and over again, my phone is on T-Mobile network, and i'm from the UK Liverpool in England to be precise.

That system update from a couple weeks ago...did it give you ICS and then this was a mainenace update to fix some things? Or were you still on Gingerbread after that update?

Also, have you ever been rooted before? When you goto the hboot screen does it say s-on at the top? In fact, it would be helpful if you could post all the info from the hboot screen. It should list the current hboot version and a few other things there.

I have sent a pm to a colleague and friend of mine who is very well versed on htc's (scotty85) to check out this thread. Perhaps he will have additional ideas I have overlooked. If not, we will at least try to get a consensus on what ruu to try.

I'm really hoping the phone will take a charge in the background or its going to make things more difficult than they already are. For now I would recommend pulling the battery then reinstall it. Then don't go back to hboot but instead just plug the phone in and hope it charges.

this is good advice. do this, and give him a couple hours and see if it will take a charge. we really need to be able to get you to fastboot for further investigating. if the battery wont charge, try taking the phone to a store and see if they can maybe charge it in a display phone,or sell you a new battery and/or an external charger.

last and not least, next time you boot the phone to fastboot, look and see if there are any numbers that are missing,as usually the baseband is displayed in hboot as well.

if you can get the battery charged up,a factory data reset is still the best first step.

once charged, all the menu options should be available for use, assuming your power button and vol rocker work

Hi Ive got a similar problem after i installed the update yesterday my phone's been playing up. It repeatedly seems to hang on the white screen with the green HTC on it but then it goes to a black screen and then back to a fully white screen switching rapidly between these. If i get to the home screen it will take ages to load and often just quit back the white screen or just go black. I've managed to get the hboot screen up with the following data

LOCKED
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.27.0000
eMMC-boot
Jan 13 2012, 17:33:34

I've got control over the hboot screen and tried a factory reset but this didn't help.

Any suggestions?

Oh also I'm on T-mobile and from Edinburgh in Scotland, not sure what version of android i've been running but I've installed every update that has come out for my phone.

do you have any idea what your most recent build number was? its hard to reccomend the correct factory software for you stock,s-on guys as the sensation has so many CIDs and RUUs available, and the phone does alot of checks that prevent you from running any old one.

if you happen to know your most recent build number, that would be awsome. if not,are there any other numbers in hboot? it should also display the baseband, wich would help figure out what you have.

you can try running one of these 2:
RUU_PYRAMID_ICS_HTC_Europe_3.33.401.6_Radio_11.76A .3504.00U_11.24A.3504.31_M_release_266171_signed.e xe - download now for free. File sharing. Software file sharing. Free file hosting. File upload. FileFactory.com

or

RUU_PYRAMID_LE_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.33.401.106_Ra dio_11.76A.3504.00U_11.24A.3504.31_M_release_26617 2_signed.exe - download now for free. File sharing. Software file sharing. Free file hosting. File upload. FileFactory.com

download, run as administrator. plug in your phone when prompted.

if they fail,we will have to run a couple adb commands to figure out your build number and cid. are you up for that?

By any chance are you on Vodaphone? And if so, are you located in the UK or elsewhere?

Ok. And just to verify...are you running a branded T-Mobile phone or an unbranded phone, using their network?

Yeah. Let's see if Scotty comes up with it, maybe I'm missing something. The other thing I would do if I were in your shoes is go to xda, search for a gentleman with the username football. Send him a PM asking if he has or could obtain the ICS RUU for your phone. Be specific...you are needing the Ice Cream Sandwich RUU for a T-Mobile branded phone in the UK. He'll need all that info. It may or may not be free to get it but I'd at least check and see if its even a possibility. He is the master when it comes to these files and has been for some years.

yes! that is the info we need. unfortunately,i cant find that RUU either. i did send football a PM,hopefully he will have it,or at least have some info on it

since you were able to boot the phone long enuff to get that info, what issues are you still having with it?

since you are on hboot 1.27 now,im assuming that your main version will match your build number,so we wont be able to flash anything lower.

in a worse case,we could try having you make a gold card and flashing another carriers ruu,but id hate to do that until a last resort. i did find a tmo uk older ruu, build number 1.34.110.1. it wont do us any good because of the reasons mentioned above, but hopefully its existance means football can come up with a newer one.

this is why all phones should be s-off,lol. this would be an easy fix if it was s-off.

since you are computer savy and willing to try things, you can get us a "getvar all" and we can see if your mainversion is actually lower than the build number(due to a corrupt or failed OTA install). if we find this to be true,it may work to run an older RUU.

heres what you do(it wont matter if the phone boots all the way to the OS or not):

first download and install these drivers: revolutionary drivers

then,download this small file:
mini-adb.zip

-unzip it,and place the unzipped folder onto the root of your C drive(not inside a folder)

-open a cmd window(with win 7,click start bubble, type "command" or "cmd" in hte search box)

-now change to your mini-adb directory(assuming you didnt chagne the name). type in the black cmd window that opened on your PC:
cd c:\mini-adb

-now plug in your phone, power on into hboot(remove battery, replace, hold vol down and power),and select "fastboot" with the vol rocker/power button

-in your cmd window type:
fastboot devices

it should output your phones serial number. if so youre good to go. if not, youre apparently having a driver issue. i usually recomend these drivers from Revolutionary: modified htc drivers download and install the drivers(you should just have to run that file). afterwards, unplug your phone, plug it back in. make sure its in fastboot. as soon as you get a result from "fastboot devices" your ready to procede to the next step.

-in your cmd window, type(or copy/paste,is much easier):
fastboot getvar all

-copy the info that outputs here. right click in your cmd window, click mark, highlight it all in white. hit enter. paste the info here.

well, that does confirm the OTA updated you to the ICS hboot and firmware, and your mainver to match your build number, and also that you have a t moble CID.

the bad news is there is no ruu for this yet:

so if a factory reset in hboot didnt help you any,im afraid your options at this point are:
1)wait for ruu to appear
2)call htc and/or tmo and complain. maybe this is a prollem with the update,so enuff complaint may get an OTA pushed out to fix. or they may just send you a new device
3)root and superCID so you can run different ruus without fear of being stuck on any particular one

Thanks for all the help guys, I've just been to see the t-mobile people instore and though they were nice it one of the worst services i've come across they want to send you phone away for 10-14days (working days not weekend) and in return they give you a basic nokia, so it looks like im just gona have to root and superCID it.

what a joke! they could at least give you a comparable phone if you have to have a loner.

i think root and superCID is worthwhile, even if you dont want to "root" and flash custom roms. there are a TON of factory ruus you can try once your superCIDed.

you might start at this thread: Bootloader unlock / S-OFF / root confusion (CyanogenMod to HTC Sensation)

and there are a couple others in the sensation root section that may be of help as well. just post up on a thread or start your own n the root section if you have any questions

Hey Scotty!

I have just bought an HTC sensation XE from a friend!
did a factory reset and then entered my sim card (Vodafone/India)
and the whole new start process was complete
but when I try to access Play store its taking more than expected time rather too long and then when I initiate a download nothing just happens!
It also gave me an error (923) sometimes when I tried.

I am using HTC on 4.0.4 and Sense 3.6
the phone is working fine other than this except one major problem is with battery
I had heard about the battery draining quick in HTC sensation xe
but this one does not even last for 2.5 hours of normal use!

When I opened the case the battery seemed a bit puffed but could not make out if this is the only problem as it is not that puffed!

Could you suggest me some possible troubleshooting for these?
also on a forum I saw
-down volume key + power button for the recovery mode!
Tried it but could not get anything???

#Puzzled!
The HTC Sensation XE seemed to be a good phone but the experience isn't good..
