I was at Best Buy today and they confirmed it will be in on the 24th! I can pre-order for 50.00 and have my name put on one. They'll issue a gift card and the phone is mine when it comes in on the 24th. Since they wont have a live version to play with, I can still go to my local Verizon store and check it out before I commit. The Best Buy phone will be held for me until I pick it up and I'm not even obligated if for some reason I decide not to get it. Very convenient!!
I just hope nobody in my area reads these forums. I will be as close to first in line at VZW as I can. I have two stores within 3 blocks of each other and they are right down the street from my job. I will let my boss know I will be leaving and coming back with a big sheet eating grin. :0

lol nice. I know the phone is going to sell well, but hopefully, at least all of us guys here will get it release day.
1st be polite, 2nd let them know how long you have been a customer and how much you would love to get this phone. 3rd leave a seed of doubt that you wont upgrade uless they can help you out with the price difference. The above steps should land you a small discount after you make the purchase.
Oh, no I pay $224.99 unless I get it on 1yr. I failed to mention I am in the window for an annual upgrade, it's my ne2 that is 15 May 2011. My sons line has an annual on 15 March but they wont move the date for me. I haven't pushed too hard yet though. I hate to waste my ne2 line for just an annual upgrade but if I go for 1 year it wont cost me an extra $70.00 with the $25.00 discount they are gonna throw my way.

You think there will be more than 2 people in line.. unlike the iPhone launch?
I wonder if Verizon will call all it's employees in to handle this.
Sorry, I can't resist laughing at 25 employees to serve 2 in line
I wonder why Verizon got rid of all early upgrades. My friend tried to get her early upgrade for her line (she's on a 2 year plan) and they weren't buying it but they'd let me upgrade with my stepdad's upgrade, because he's been a customer for like ever....but I wonder why. It makes no sense to me.
So my local VZW store sent me an upgrade postcard for both my lines. My primary will is actually up in July and the secondary is up now. However he listed as both being upgradeable, is this a typo or can this be done? I dont quite understand VZW new upgrade policy

I don't quite get it either, I think if you've been with them long enough they are allowing you your early upgrade. However after this year you are not allowed to do anymore early upgrades. Also they did away with mandatory data plans on feature phones. Only phones that require data plans are 3G/4G and Palm and iPhone phones. So basically don't lock yourself into a two year plan cause you won't be able to upgrade unless you plan on buying the phone outright from this point on.

Exactly hence my desire to get a 1 year plan on an annual upgrade. The $50.00 they give you on an ne2 is not woth being locked into a 2 year ball and chain.

My friend who is on Sprint tried to tell me the other day that her Evo (the first one) was brand new out on the market and that it wasn't obsolete. I was like my phone was the answer to your phone and my phone has been out for like a year. Your phone and my phone will be done when the Thunderbolt comes out. LOL She also wanted to know why I was throwing away my money by switching phones so soon. I was like so soon? It's been a year. She was like that's a short amount of time to own a phone and I was like no it's not that like 15 years for a dog......
Obviously she knows nothing. This is the same friend who tried to tell me that she had a droid branded phone. She owns an HTC Evo. I tried to explain to her there is a difference in having a droid branded phone and having the software alone. She told me I was being stupid and picky. Why am I friends with people like this?
I only ever get NE1s. I will never get NE2s, it's not worth it. The turn over is too quick.

I would get an NE1, but I'm signing a two year, but getting buy back from best buy (free until the 26th) that way in a year, I can get 40% of what I paid for my phone.

They did away with early upgrades because they thought millions of people that were locked in a contract would go out And buy the iPhone at full retail. They were painfully wrong! We are still in a recession, and vzw fails to realize that. at&t did the same thing, but they just changed they're price on it, instead of doing away with it altogether. I believe at&t raised it from $75 to an anytime $200 fee to upgrade. Which would have came to $249 + $200 if vzw had something similar. But they don't, and it really makes no sense IMO. So if someone is locked in, they're pretty much screwed! And with a new phone coming out every couple of months, these sort of prices will push people away....I don't care How Fast 4G is, etc, I'll cancel my vzw line and move to another provider, because in the end these are price structures meant to rip off the customer! And that just ain't Cool....
Yea the way the technology is nowadays it would be foolish to get locked into a 2yr term even though i believe their 1 yr is 10months and 2 yr is 20 months.
so realistically whats the best way to buy the tb? wirefly, bb, vzw? my mom wants to get it through vzw just because she can put it on her bill, i kind of want to buy from wirefly just because it'll prob be a lot cheaper, but i also kind of want to buy from bb because of the free buyback deal
i guess i'll have to get a 2year deal any way i go about this so what'd be the best option? i guess if i buy from bb i could always get the $350 or whatever it is from bb in 6months, but then i'd still have to shell out another like $200-300 for another phone which is kinda crazy. how much do you think it'll be on wirefly on release day? if its the same as vzw/bb i won't even bother
I dont know much cheaper its going to be on Wirefly...BB has that new future proof program but they dont do one year deals. In the end you have to decide what's in the best interest of you and how you want to spend your money. Me personally im going to vzw and get the one yr and trade my phone to them for watever its worth.
The HTC Thunderbolt is the first ever 4G phone on Verizon Wireless. The name is no surprise... you can expect the Thunderbolt to have lightning speeds as the carrier ushers in a new era of mobile power.
