Who's adopting this on launch in face of potential, yet unknown, issues?
From What I've been reading, it seems as if we could possibly seem one or more of the following issues after the phone launches
- Horrible Battery Life
- No 4G Service (To be phased in later like the Moto ZOOM)
- If it has 4G, it may have issues switching between 3G and 4G seamlessly
- 4G Sim Card Issues
- Any Others?
Now, I am open minded and know that the phone is not going to work perfect out of the box. I can almost guarantee it will have an issue that will require an update from HTC/Verizon shortly after launch. This is a side effect of being an early adopter of new technology.
I'm still torn on what I'm going to do.
I've already invested in a Screen protector and Seido case. I'm about $60+ in already for this phone.
My Question is How many of you will be on line Day 1 to get your TB? How many will give it a week or two to let others test the phone out and report back any issues?
But in all seriousness, Im sure the battery life will be poor, until an OTA update is released. Other than that, i doubt they'd release the phone without 4g working, seeings thats all they've marketed it as.
Only other issue i see people running into is maybe some sim card issues. Seeings this is the first verizon phone to utilize them if im not mistaken. Not sure what the issues would be, but that seems like a logical problem area if this is their first with that tech.

Right, this is there first 4G phone... THERE WILL BE ISSUES!
Who is willing to still buy the phone while all the kinks are worked out?
I know this delay is due to Battery / 4G issues and they are supposedly worked out. But knowing how these companies work i'm sure there will still be issues that rear their heads once the phones get out into the public's hands that were never noticed before.

Yippee, third...always the bridesmaid and never the bride...now that I think about it, never the bridesmaid either since I'm a dude.
But back on track... I'm expecting some battery issues and some third party apps not jiving, but all of that is normal. At this point, I welcome those SMALL issues to just have the phone already.

I second that. I put up with those issues when i bought my evo, totally worth it in the long run

LOL...lets all be honest here, This phone is going to be laced, and I mean laced with problems! There is no way around it, these delays are due to a number of things, maybe even some things we haven't heard about. I for one will be sitting on the sidelines watching and reading the reviews. I mean it is there first LTE Device, so problems are expected! I Just think people are really pissed by not hearing a word from vzw, even as they promote the phone and run tons of commercials. The wise thing to do is just wait and see how it pans out. For once, I will not be an early adapter!
I think every device that's this complicated has issues at launch. There's just no way you can test for everything. Whatever does come up, I think will be minor and quite manageable until VZW/HTC or Team Touche fixes it.

Reason: Yeah - we're not big on that word, changed it Touche

Team Touche has always been pretty reliable for quick fixes...

Reason: not ok with that word
I will be first in line with bells and a 9mm on. lol There is no way that after all this time, I am going to wait a week or so for someone else to tell me what's wrong. I will figure that out myself. lol

Since I'm in Iowa I don't really care about 4g as it will be a while before I'll ever see it anyways. To be honest, I'm not sure if I'll even get it on this phone before it's time to upgrade to the next one.
Even still, the advantages of this over the Incredible are still enough for me to wait out this release. But I will still be getting one on release day. I know on another forum someone mentioned that the newest Sense has a 3g/4g toggle. I hope that is the case because otherwise my phone is going to be searching for a long time.

Um ... I'll let you cut in front of me in the TB line. We're friends, right?

LOL Of Coooourse we are. Last time I went to get printer ink (on launch day for something, by mistake) at BB, some lady elbowed me and gave me a bloody nose all because she wanted something I wasn't even there for. Soooo, let her elbow me now.
Saw that, let it go because I read it as a light-hearted thing.
Probably I shouldn't have. I'm sorry, too. So to make up for my error - the whole thread's hereby infracted.
No, seriously, sorry I didn't trim that, looks like a nice apology is given, and all's well that ends well, please stay on target.
(And yes - I really did that to that word.)
If I could vote, I'd vote early adopter. I got my Evo on launch+2_days because that was the soonest I could get to the store. I doubt the Bolt will have as many launch issues as the Evo and if I had it to do over again, I'd have made it to the store earlier.
People that get to post, "I've had mine since launch day..." are generally the coolest.

i'll be getting one as soon as it's available. if it has unbearable issues, i'll just switch back to my incredible and hold on to the TB until they release an update.
i also have two cases and a holster so i'm ready to go!
btw i was one of the first to get the og blackberry storm and nothing could be worse than that phone when it was released. only way the TB could be worse is if they embed an electric cattle prod in the screen. lol

I remember when my dad brought the storm home, and tried to tell me how it was better than my Hero...I "played" with it for about 5 minutes, gave it back to him and told him he was crazy.

I heard Moto was looking into this feature if you try to get around their bootloader :P

Funny you should ask - just came in from Tijeras - it's green at the moment, but the mesa is golden brown.
Ummm... get the Bolt on launch day for the on-topic win? (ducks!)

Ha, glad to hear theres some life down there. And yes...on topic...I think that the thunderbolt will be good to go on day 1 (sarcasm), and that it will outperform both the bionic and samsung 4g phone (Doubtful, but hopeful)

Its All Good! Lol...I did so many First day buys in the last year, Incredible, EVO, Droid X, Fascinate, who knows if i'll be able sit back and watch!
I have a SIM card on my TP2. The biggest issue for me will be whether or not 4G will be offered tiered or unlimited. The way I see it, if the phone is acting spastic or is performing less than expected, then I will bug the hell out of Verizon's customer service until they swap out phones for me. I figure I won't get a refurbed early on, and if I have to swap out phones more than a few times, by the time that happens, there will be more options available to me by that time.
They won't release it unless it's perfect and I don't want to run the risk of them selling out. In the slim chance mine is glitchy I will just take it back.

HTC Thunderbolt: man's greatest test of patience
I'll be getting it as soon as available. As far as all the worry about the issues it might have, name me 5 phones regardless of carrier that didn't have some issues post launch. It's the nature of the industry, hell any industry. Cars, home appliances, power tools, whatever. Now if this were a midrange device like the Ally or something I'd worry a bit, but with it being Verizon's first LTE phone they gotta be on any issues right away or face a PR backlash. Especially after what's happened so far (not saying it's been publicly delayed, but that's the widespread perception true or not, & anymore perception becomes reality in the public's eyes).

This phone may never launch and probably shouldn't being SO far behind the EVO and to close to the next best thing. Somebody may want to redo business 101.
I'm almost tempted to wait for the next set of phones because the whole idea with this phone was to have the latest technology. The new phones will have this phone beat as far as hardware by the time it's released. And considering this phone is practically the EVO and there's a new EVO on the way, makes it an even less attractive phone to buy (especially at the price they're asking).
Waiting for the next set of phones and the network to get larger. I picked up a DX instead. The 4g market in Michigan is only for a small area in metro detroit (where I live) but what I really want is 4g speed when I am out of my local area. I can use wifi at work, home, coffee shop etc now anyway. For me 4g is at least a year from being useful and I have lost all confidence in the TB anyway.
I'm buying the first good 4G phone that comes out. I don't care if it's Windows, iOS or Android. Period. 'Course, we all know which one that will probably be.
As for issues... my belief is that this phone doesn't have any more issues than any other smartphone launch. The only difference here is that the phone introduces brand new technology so it has garnered more interest and "leaks". These "leaks" are normally never published on other devices because other devices are not as interesting as the Thunderbolt. But they all have issues like this when preparing for launch. "Issues" are built into the project schedule! They are inevitable.
The HTC Thunderbolt is the first ever 4G phone on Verizon Wireless. The name is no surprise... you can expect the Thunderbolt to have lightning speeds as the carrier ushers in a new era of mobile power.
While 4G speeds on a Verizon Android Phone ... Read More
