Can anybody in NYC speak about the places where you get a decent signal on 4G? Is it still very limited? I'm wondering if it's worth the switch at this time
Just downloaded the speedtest app from market and getting 125ms. I guess 4g is a marginal improvement but nowhere close to what Verizon is claiming which is 50% lower
What's your download/upload btw?

LATENCY: The user plane latency achieved in Verizon 4G LTE is approximately 1/2 (one-half) corresponding latency in existing 3G technologies. This provides a direct service advantage for highly immersive and interactive application environments, such as multiplayer gaming and rich multimedia communications..
The whole NYC metro is covered. I'm not aware of a single area that's having 4G reception issues.
The real latency and speeds you'll see if you USB tether your phone to your computer via Internet Connection Mode.

does it give you a full day with 4g radio turned on and active? Not talking about crazy usage like radio on all day long but basic usage like checking email 2-3 times an hour, maybe a bit of facebook, maybe few minutes of google maps.. That kind of thing
Yes, it does. I've changed my charging habits as well. I now charge the phone in the morning while getting ready to leave... then when I get in to the office I'll charge it the rest of the way. The phone lasts until the next morning with about 30% charge remaining.

Ironically, I'm visiting my old roots for the first time since owning the Bolt, so I'm here on Long Island, Westbury specifically, and it is the first time I'm getting to see 4g in action. Silky smooth, but holy crap my battery is dropping by the second!

The one downfall...the battery drops like a brick thrown off a building.
I work in Manhattan and the 4g coverage is rock solid. Is all of nyc 4g ? Is say no, not yet. I was in staten island for the day and my thunderbolt was flipping through 4g - 3g -1X. It abused my battery like nothing I've seen before.
So I looked up the area code for where I was 10314. Sure enough no 4g. Thank god I don't live there..
So for those on the borderline 4g area I can see what their issues are.

dont even bother with the speedtest app for now. It used to work for me but it doesn't even work anymore. it says negative speed sometimes, lol. I go to speakeasy.net/speedtest for any tests now. I hate enabling desktop mode everytime I go to speedtest.net. For some reason this phone refuses to hold the desktop setting even though it is enabled always. I have to go about:debug in the browser to enable it again.
FYI...last few days I've been seeing my phone bounce through a few diff signals in certain areas..they're short lived and usually end up back on 4G. But I've been seeing 1X, to 3G, to 4G, and so on and so fourth?
I'm interested in seeing what my 4G signal looks like when I get my TBolt. I live in Queens (right near Flushing, specifically), and I live in pretty much a one-block-radius dead zone where I'm generally on 1x and overjoyed if I get 3G for even a few seconds with one bar. I obviously don't expect 4G at my house, but perhaps at my uncle's house, which is 5 blocks away and has 4 bars of 3G on my OG Droid.
Definitely sounds like a solid start for Verizon's LTE network. I know my girlfriend barely gets WiMax anywhere with her Epic 4G on Sprint, even in midtown Manhattan.

Anyone else here in NYC experience some weirdness today? My battery was at like 70% at 2pm today... sitting in my pocket not using it while at work. Then just now, I noticed my thigh was really hot and wondered why my phone was overheating... my battery is down to 33% with zero usage since 2pm. I typically have 45-50% battery remaining right now when leaving from work.
I figure it must be something with 4G draining the battery... anyone else?
And now under 10%... no idea whats draining the battery... no apps running, Battery use doesn't show anything using it other than the usual Display and Cell Standby... etc.
The HTC Thunderbolt is the first ever 4G phone on Verizon Wireless. The name is no surprise... you can expect the Thunderbolt to have lightning speeds as the carrier ushers in a new era of mobile power.
