Default Can you install new boot animation without rooting on the Thunderbolt?

Time to ask a "Newbie" question and pull back the veil of my ignorance a bit more........

I've read of and seen allot of cool boot animations that rooted users can install and I've never been too fond of the "Thunder Bolt" animation that I sit through when I boot up. I'm just not adventurous enough with my TB and the Android OS to try and root my phone yet. My question is, are there any ways to change the boot animation without rooting or am I SOL until I want to take that leap and root?

Enquiring minds want to know!

I haven't tried but if it's anything like on the Droid 1, you need SU rights to access the proper directories to save the new animation in.

The same goes for the Samsung Vibrant and htc Evo 4G. I think this is an Android limitation.
