Mad F.M.L. F.M.L. F.M.L. - R.I.P. my poor TB

So i decide to go out to a bar on Friday and as i was taking money out of my pocket for the covercharge out comes my phone SMACK screen first on the cement ground. I was praying to all that is holy that i could have one pass but NOPE screen broke to holy hell. I wasnt to mad since i had TEC insurance on it....or so i thought. I forgot that i figuered that i would never drop the phone or anything and save some money. Of course within a month of having my beloved TB it freaking breaks . So now i have to use the certified preowned replacement program. But of course TB's are not part of the program (or the dreaded iphone). So now i will prob rock the Droid X which i know is a good phone to but DAMN. I will be damned if i pay full price. My weekend was great.

How much is the insurance on it, if you did get it?

That's why I'd never skimp on insurance. While you may do everything in your power to not drop it, Murphy is an asshole, and his laws reign supreme.

Hope you can get another TB sometime!

Does it still function at all? You could use another Thunderbolt and download the square trade app and put it on your phone. It's $149 for two years of accidental protection, and it doesn't matter if your phone is out of the 30 day purchase window.

The only thing is idk if it can tell if you are on YOUR thunderbolt or not, but it's worth looking into.

I believe insurance was like 3.99 a month. Now saying that makes me feel even dumber. 4.00 to replace a phone is not bad at all CRAPSICLES. I might just get the X and i am due for an upgrade next year. I figure by that time the whole 4g thing might be fixed and there might even be a TB 2. Think positive lol. Also if i get the X i can renew my insurance and it will be on my contract for now on.

iAstonish - Nope dosent work at all. I might try ur idea out though. Thanks for info.

CyperPitz - Yeah Murphys law is a bitch

I'm gonna have to change my name too lol

Did you at least get some action after the bar? If not, then your weekend was a total fail.

That seriously sucks. I dedicate one pocket daily to my TB and nothing else goes there except the phone, because I could see myself getting a buck or something and dropping it as well.

Go to SquareTrade.com and buy insurance on your phone.

They will most likely just say its too expensive and replace it.

Do you mean the warranty that costs 99$? Not that its a problem but i dont want to get the wrong one. I see also in their fine print that the plan only works on phones purchased in the last 30 days.

I went on the TEC insurance website and applied for the insurance but now i have to wait 5-10 business days to see if they will accept me or w/e. So now i have to play the waiting game. The wait is killing me already.

A couple of options...
VERIZON HTC THUNDERBOLT DIGITIZER REPLACEMENT SCREEN US | eBay

OEM HTC Thunderbolt Touch Screen Digitizer Replacement | eBay

I don't know anything about the dealers but I'd give it a go if possible.

I never buy insurance on phones. So far I've had pretty good luck with my phones as I've only ever lost one. Not that I'm Mister Money Bags or anything, but if it breaks I'll just buy a new one.

So you have the TEC insurance on the phone and you won't get a Thunderbolt as a replacement from them? I have the insurance and I did not realize that they could replace it with a different phone. I thought i would get the same phone? Is the TEC insurance the same you get through Verizon?

No he doesn't have TEC ins he took it off he thought he had it on there. The ins will replace it with the same phone if you have it.

No i don't have the insurance through them anymore. I only have the extended warranty is is obviously different. I cleverly decided to not re-up on TEC (Calling Features: Total Equipment Coverage – now with Mobile Recovery) when i got the new contract. So i had to go back and try and apply again. U should get the same exact phone if u have the insurance. The only reason that i could not get the same phone is because the thunderbolt is not a certified pre owned phone yet. So i couldn't take advantage of the certified pre owned program thing.

Yes the link that i provided is the same insurance program (TEC) that verizon uses for their phones.

Well just an update about this. I got accepted into the Insurance program but the problem was that i deactivated my phone like 4 days before i got the insurance and asurion thinks that i am trying to pull one over on them. Which i guess i kinda am. And they would not confirm my order. So i talked to a Verizon agent and they suggested that i add the family plan onto my account so that i can get a new phone on the added line at the 2 yr discount price. Pay the extra 9.99 for the extra line. Then just switch my number to the new phone. One of the problems with that though is if i cant find some one to use the other line and pay me for it that i will be paying for 2 data plans. So i was thinking of using the certified pre owned program thing and getting a real cheap feature phone that wont need the data plan. Keep the cheap phone on one line and just keeping the data plan on the other phone. What do ya'll think?

I am really really really kicking myself for thinking that i would never drop the phone. But damn how Sh*t happens.

Damn that sucks. Seems like your best option is to buy a used one on Ebay.

And I wouldn't take it as lightly as "pulling a fast one." It's called insurance fraud.

Either ask them to add a dummy ESN to the unused line, or go and by a dumb phone on ebay for $20 and add that phone to the unused line. When I added a new line to my family plan I was on contract with a Droid X, I asked them to give that line a dummy ESN and they did, I sold the X, and added a new line for the TB and got it at the new 2 year price.

Wouldnt getting a crappy feature phone for really cheap as a replacement phone for the line that i have now. Then getting on the other line (family plan) the new phone at the 2yr contract discounted price kinda the same thing that u are suggested? I guess that the added 9.99 that i will be paying for the family plan would be different. Or are u suggesting something completely different?

Only if you are actually using the second line. I have no use for my Droid X line now, 3 lines, 2 people. So I had them put a dummy ESN on that old line. If you have a plan to use both lines than yes, just put a cheap old phone on it.

Best thing you can do is put the TB on ebay AS-IS and try to get about 200-300 for it.

if the only thing wrong is the cracked screen, why not just replace it?

I didnt want something to come up later on with the phone. Like something that happend internally because of the fall. I remember when my laptop fell off my lap (so ironic lol) it started acting weird after that. Come to find out that the processor in laptops (ecsp. factory ones) are really really sensitive to falls. I know that cell phones arent laptops but i just wanted to start over again.

Always dropping stuff lol.
