Both of our phones at times recieve the same text message 2 to 3 times(pretty much immediately...back to back). Its not just when we text each other, but because we talk to each other pretty regularly...it happens most when we're texting each other. Does anyone else have this problem? I have been with ATT for years. It doesn't happen to my daughter(who is using my old inspire). What gives?

Are you using multiple messaging apps or a unified inbox. You may be only receiving the message once, but being notified by multiple apps configured to handle it. You might be able to check the ATT website. On verizon I can go online and see a timestamp for each message sent and received and the to / from.
This kind of similar issue happen after i used "SMS popup", because of system notification and that app give notifications. As well as SMS popup give unread notifications periodically.

I'm only using the default sms/mms app that came with the phone...i have tried others in the past, but this one works the best for me.

That was a great idea...i just pulled up my account online, and it only shows one text sent from my wife, and one text recieved by me. my phone displayed that message three times...
I haven't rooted this phone yet, and I don't use any messaging app other than the one that came with the phone....

You should be able to click on each of the notifications you receive open the app is raising it. then you can turn off the notification in the app. I'm into something at work at the moment, so I may be slow to reply, but we'll get it figured out.

thats true, the problem is that its double and triple posting in the same app, even though att is only seeing one iteration. Terribly confused...especially since its not always consistent

I'm searching now. I'm seeing a lot of frustration, but no solutions yet. Bear with me.
OK, the best I've found so far is turning off delivery reports in the messaging app settings. I'm not real confident, but I'd like you to give it a try.

Its really the craziest thing. It never happened on my inspire. I was running Sense 3.0(same as what Vivid runs stock), but i guess its not a fair comparison as the inspire was rooted running a custom ROM. I really wasn't wanting to root the Vivid just yet. I like Sense 3.0...the only advantage to rooting would be to use my mobile hotspot without being charged half a million dollars. I may have to root and see if I can get it to go away.

Sense 3.5 came with her phone. It was required for the notification dongle that came with the phone (it is a chick phone).
Wow, I wish I knew what the solution would be. I have ATT but never get duplicate text messages except from one friend who messages delivers twice all the time. Hes got tmo.

Catch up through the thread, chall80 and I have been through it and now my wife's phone is having the same problem. It's either a settings thing or a sense thing.

Boy! What happened over there? That discission blew up! One thing I would say for duplicate text messages, charges can rack up if we dont have an unlimited text message plan.... Definitely a fix is on order.

We've determined that messages aren't going through the carrier more than once, so it is either a local bug or setting. Look for a PM

I am thinking it must habe something to do with maybe, the text is sent, but maybe behimd the scene gets flagfed as in-queue as if its still pending , and "resends" at the next attempt. But in actuallity, the first did successfully send...just a thought.

Yep its good one is cleared up but thats spookie not being able to identify where and why its happening. Them gremlins can reek some havoc cant they!

Yes, messages and email. Now this morning she said that the last two emails she received did not duplicate, so maybe hers self corrected too. It is frustrating to not be able to say "that's what fixed it."

I was ok with my Vivid as delivered, but the more I get weirdo repeat texts, the more I want to root. I wish there was more development for this device, but i'm sure it will pick up...

i do have unlimited text...this is basically just an superficial(but serious) irritation....
I have an HTC Vivid and I'm having the same issue, along with text messages being out of order. Has anyone updated to ICS yet and seen any changes? The update they have on the htc site is for Windows and I have a Mac so I can't update.

Im not sure but mine stopped doing the double text before i updated to ICS.Now that I've updated everythings still running fine with no double text.
Have you tried to update over the air via wifi?That is an option if you want the latest ICS update.

I have, but every time I check for AT&T software updates it says "Server Unavailable" Thanks though!

Did you try the method of pinging there server via this method?
Dial *#*#682#*#* in the dialer while on WIFI and see if the update option pops up.Make sure the battery is charged above 50% before trying to update.
If that don't work you could try using virtual pc to run HTC sync on your mac machine long enough to run the update. Download Virtual PC for Mac - Run Windows on your PPC Mac. MacUpdate.com

Switched and for the past 3 months I have been having texting issues on the skyrocket. Intermittent issues are duplicate texts and messages I send failing, and some texts people send me never arrive. I am on my third skyrocket and third sim card. Tomorrow is day 5 of my latest case with At&t not being able to figure out issue. I think it has something to do with lte, because I didn't have this issue until switching to the vivid and skyrocket.

I have thought it was the provider all along.I think its due to them updating there towers to 4g and lte services.
