HOW CAN I GET THE ICS UPDATE!!!!! I checked on my phone through check for updates and all I keep getting is current software is up to date you may check again in 21 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Help me!
That's because At&t hasn't released it yet.You can update though if you follow the instructions that was posted earlier in this thread.I'll be on my laptop later if you want to do it this way. It's a simple process.
Feel free to send me a pm or just be around the forum in about an hour or so .

If it works, it is basically just pinging att's system to send you the "user-friendly RUU". I don't believe that wipes all your data...although I'm a firm believer in a full wipe upon any system mods...its just good practice...

download the RUU from xda, or join WCXxperia-nce.com
so here's the deal...the ICS that I installed is NOT rooted. It is a stock ATT distribution. They have started the rollout, and a guy in Detroit saved the RUU(Rom Update Utility) before he used it. This is important, as the RUU self deletes after you install it(the Over the Air version anyway). This update does not void your warranty. Does not brick the phone, because it is directly from ATT/HTC. The only thing you need to do is sync anything you want to keep, because it reverts the phone to the out of box state.
Its pretty fool proof, but i'm willing to help anyone who has questions. I have run it on my phone and my wifes...I have extensive experience flashing rooted roms(Inspire 4g). Its not nearly as scary as you might think.
I'm holding off on rooting my vivid, because at the moment, the developers are still working on getting S-Off. That and the vivid forum at XDA has imploded recently, and thats where most of the development happens(historically anyway...WildChild has his own website now, and I have used lots of his ROM's before)
I have a ROOTED HTC VIVID. I was told that s-off is necessary for flashing ROMS. Can I get the ICS update and maintain root?
So who on here pinged the server with dialer trick and pulled the ICS 4.0.3/sense 3.6 update? Y'all lucky... woodsytattooman did, right?
This Dinc2 owner is mildly jealous...
I bet this is very similar/if not exactly the same update we will see on VZW's Incredible 2.
Couple questions if y'all loaded it and are running it. On the non rooted OTA pull:
Are there any options to change the transition effect when swiping across the homescreens?
I saw a hands on video of sense 3.6 running on the vivid and the effect was similar to go launcher outside cube effect. Can you change it to different ones?
In the all apps tray, can you change the scrolling to horizontal instead of the default vertical style?
Screen shots can now be taken natively by pressing vol down + power hardware buttons, right?
How big was the file size for the update?
That's all I can think of for now...y'all enjoy!!!

No you just install it like you do any AT&T Update. The directions and link to the Ruu ROM are below.Just follow chall80's directions after downloading the ROM
So, I downloaded the file, but when I try to open it, it says file not found.
The instructions say: Once you've enabled USB Debugging, and connected your device using the "charge only" setting, Double click the RUU file. I'm confused

Yes while on HTC Sync. Not on your desktop.Do it in the HTC Sync program.Let me get my phone hooked up and see if i can explain it better.

Ok, I'm downloading it to my husbands computer because HTC Sync doesn't work on my laptop with my vivid..it worked with my Inspire. It says it has 2 hours left on the download, which is weird because he has a custom built, super fast computer.

I think im wrong
Just enable debugging on your vivid.Connect it to your usb. Then click the zip file.Click the application file inside the zip and this should direct you through the rest of the setup.

When you first download it, do you select "Open With" or "Save". I selected "Save", downloaded it, then it just says application not found when I try to open it

When you open the file it should have this application in it.
The application will not work until you connect the phone via usb, charge only, with debugging mode enabled.

RUU does work you have unzip it to a location connect phone as instructed in previous posts and then run the exe, disable any antivirus as it may stop the ruu from running

Thanks to you both! I get frustrated too easily, so I had my husband do it for me and it works!! I'm so excited, it's like a brand new phone! How do I take a screenshot? I've done it on accident, so I know it's possible lol.

I beg of anyone, can someone please tell me how to disable ALL vibrate functions in ICS on the Vivid? I absolutely hate that vibrate feedback when I type something. I have turned it off where I could but it still does it. Before I updated I had it turned off and never worried about it. Is there a hidden setting or something? please help

This is one setting that is very hard to find that i noticed.
Open text messages/Open keyboard/Hit the EN key/hit settings/Text input/Un-check vibrate when typing.
As far as the rest i think you have to uncheck vibrate under each app, notification, ringtone settings.Such as menu/settings/sound/Un-check vibrate.Scroll down to Vibrate feedback Un-check it as well. There may be more under your apps as i said. You will have to check each app that you use for that setting.

Wow I would have never found that. I really appreciate it.

No problem.Im not sure why that setting seems hidden but that's the only way Ive found it.
You would be amazed how much battery the vibrations suck up daily.
I've been putting my battery through different test this past week to see how long i can make it last.Check out the thread over here> Battery life

Let us know if something still causing vibration
No it's fixed thank goodness. Keeping my phone on wifi all day helps a great deal with battery life. If I didn't have wifi access I don't think my phone would make through a work day.

Honestly, unless it sits static, you probably wouldn't make it. Mine sits on life support unless I'm mobile....then again, I'm not one for saving energy....lol...

Vibration iS the second biggest power drain....second only to the mighty screen!
