Cry Unrooted Wildfire S bootloop! Help!

Right, OK here is the problem. I'm not sure how it happened but every time I try to turn it on, It loops between the first 'HTC' screen and then 'HTC Quietly Brilliant' and then the Orange screen. It then repeats between the last two. I know there are a lot of threads about 'rooted' boot loops, but I don't even know what a root is. Please help. Is there a way to restore it like it was, working, without losing any data?

Thanks.
Thphwh

Try pulling the battery out, putting it back and turning it on... Let me know if it doesn't work

Is it still under warranty? If yes, I think the best thing is to send it for repair...

It's not under warranty and I'm getting a new phone, so if there is a way to fix it, even if it breaks it, I'd like to do it.

[EDIT] Using tutorials I got this on screen but does nothing more:
Marvel Put Ship S-on RL HBOOT-1.03.0000 Microp-0451 Radio-7.46.35.08
[/EDIT]

You probable just need to re-flash the stock HTC ROM for your phone.

1. Download the RUU (ROM Update Utility) for your phone here:
[ROM]Shipped Marvel ROM Collection - xda-developers

2. Install HTC Sync, Android SDK tools and Java runtime as per the opening section of this rooting guide:
http://androidforums.com/wildfire-s-all-things-root/480954-guide-how-root-wildfire-s-s-finally.html

This allows the phone to connect to your computer for the steps below.

3. Fully charge the battery. Then boot the phone into bootloader by pulling the battery for a couple seconds and replacing it, holding down volume and pressing the power button.

4. Once in bootloader, select Fastboot using the volume rocker and pressing power. Then connect the USB cable. You should see FASTBOOT USB.

5. Run the RUU from Windows and follow the wizard.

Since the phone is out of warranty, you may as well root it while you're at it!

Post back here if you run into snags.

That was one of the best tutorials I've ever had for anything. I will try this. Just one last question. If a phone was under warranty, would flashing the stock ROM invalidate it? I know this doesn't matter but I just want to know. Thanks!

Glad it was helpful! Flashing a stock HTC ROM does not invalidate the warranty.

Make sure it's Marvel, and it depends which country you live in. IF you're from europe, get the HTC europe one

I have a similar problem to thphwh, my 510e powers up sometimes, usually goes into splash screen then quietly brilliant then shuts down, even after pulling battery cannot get into bootloader to re load stock rom. Phone vibrates when trying to power up. Would appreciate any ideas.

This sounds like a hardware problem to me. If you can ever get it to boot into bootloader or the ROM, do a factory reset and see if that helps. If you can't even get that much done, you're probably looking at a trip to a service center or your provider
