Default Screen freezing

My wife's screen sometimes freezes and is totally unresponsive. Pressing the power button off then on fixes it but it is annoying.

Does anyone know a cure please?

Problem got far worse. When it freed up it then cycled trough several screens then called someone all on its own.

We're sending it back.
