Via htc's facebook bootloader page: Thanks so much for providing feedback, we hear your concerns. Your satisfaction is a top priority for us and we're working hard to ensure you have great experiences with our phones. We're reviewing the issue and our policy around bootloaders and will provide more information soon. Thank you for your interest, support and willingness to share your feedback.
This is definitely good news for the EVO 3D. Now the rumored post June 11 release date is more bearable. Hopefully this is the right forum, but had to spread the great news!

Thanks for this post and for the link to HTC on Facebook. I think it would be a prudent gesture for an equal number of folks to post on their Facebook page a word of thanks for heaing what the community had to say... and reacting in a positive way. Folks these days are very quick to get angry and criticize, but very slow to just say.... thanks.

Great news. HTC, I love you right about now. I am now 100% back on board, and will be buying 4 Evo 3D units on the first day you will let me take them.

I already posted my thank you comment! It's interesting to see the reactions... a lot of people are thanking them but there's still a few who didn't bother to read the news and are still writing vicious comments . I definitely second your call to show your gratitude though - it's good to say thanks sometimes
EDIT: I second the call for a release date. I am now more excited than ever!!
So... We won? WE WON! now there is simply no way I won't be getting the EVO 3D. If they're not going to lock it, then they can retroactively send out a firmware update for their phones when they launch.

They not only saved several thousand current customers from leaving, but probably gained new ones too, as shown by multiple comments like this:
"Wow, what a great company you are. I own a Motorola device, but I think you just gained a new future customer. Thanks for listening!"
Definately a smart move by them. If they will ship the 3D and Sensation with the unlocked bootloaders or how long it will take to get an update pushed through when they do arrive.

I guess everyone who has been threatening to walk and cursing HTC will have amnesia and go buy their products now.
uhm...duh? the reason people were complaining was to let HTC know if they didn't change their stance on their bootloaders they wouldn't buy HTC products anymore..well HTC listened and reversed their stance..why wouldn't they go back to supporting HTC?
edit: now lets go to sprints facebook and complain about a release date..jk!

This post is totally unprofessional and uncalled for. Totally violates the rules and regulations that govern this forum.
I guess HTC made me eat my words. Their CEO does actually care. Must be engraved in his culture.

Wow, I can't check the link, but if this is true.... Absolutely fantastic! I was so unimpressed when I heard they were going the Moto route and signing their BLoaders. Thanks, and I will look for more info on this great news!
Another point is the CEO said as of today they won't lock the bootloaders on their phone. EVO 3Ds are ready to ship from HTC already. They aren't going to go in and make changes this late in the process.

The point I was trying to make was some ppl, not all, were being vicious and rude in their posts. The same people that were accusing HTC of turning its back on their supporters were so ready to do the same. Ironic.
I agree with you on the release date issue, I want this phone already.
They wouldn't have to make late changes before shipping.
The Evo had an OTA update on launch day - June 4, 2010.
HTC can and has included bootloader updates with signature-security changes for the Evo. (To this day, before rooting an Evo, you check bootloader revision to see what root method to use for your particular version.)
Therefore - HTC can easily work with Sprint to push this update without ever opening a box that's warehoused and ready to ship, and Bob's your uncle.
And no way they'd play loophole on the Sensation or the Evo - no way at all.
They responded to what the users presented as unacceptable and put it in terms of customer loyalty.
To turn around and betray thru clever lying any part of that user base would be a disaster - they're not fools, they responded correctly today, they won't lie tomorrow.
In my opinion.

Wow, HTC. That's awesome Customer Service there. This action alone has me reconsidering buying an HTC product over a Samsung. I could always use LauncherPro to hide the Sense Launcher

So it looks like all the disgust thrown their way has worked. I'm still wondering if the 3d was set to ship in the next week or two is it to late to unlock its bootloader or if it's just phones from here on out won't be locked.

viber was being sarcastic with the '7 months' bit, FYI
Aye, but I figured an honest answer couldn't hurt things and it might throw some perspective to the situation.
Truthfully, the T-bolt was a phone I was waiting on in that time frame. The unlocking has put the E3D back on my radar, if the release date doesn't stray into the 4+ month range.

Somehow I can't see the almighty Steve Jobs doing this with Apple.

I just hope they unlock the Sensation by December when I upgrade.

What GREAT news. Hopefully this gets followed through on. Thanks HTC!
I'm not trying to rain on the parade here and admittedly I don't know entirely how these things work, but what is to stop Sprint from locking down our phones in some fashion? What if HTC is making good but passing the buck off to Sprint so they can take the customer relations hit? Ultimately Sprint is the one delivering the software in the long term right?
Can we get Sprint to make the same commitment?
What about Verizon//T-Mobile/AT&T(hahahahahaha)?

I think Sprint would really hurt relations with HTC if they did that. The consumer may not know who really was responsible. All they know is that HTC promised freedom, and they didn't get it. That hurts HTC in the eyes of the consumer. HTC may decide not to continue business with Sprint.
That may be drastic. I don't think it will happen. But it would be interesting to know if HTC consulted Sprint et. al. while they were making this decision...
This is awesome news. I was highly upset at the news about the locked BL in their current /upcoming devices.
Motorola, are you taking hits? You should be.
With HTC's new stance, and Sony's willingness to unlock their phones and release timely updates, I'm hoping other companies like Motorola follow.
I was considering just waiting for the next Nexus device, but if this phone releases by June/July, I don't think I'll be able to wait.
It's great that HTC acted so swiftly and decisively. I imagine if any carriers such as Verizon or AT&T threaten to not carry HTC phones because of their stance, HTC can easily make a public statement on how carriers are attempting to take choices away from the consumer.
Which carrier would want to risk that kind of horrible pr? Not to mention losing a very important manufacturer which helps generates millions in dollars of business for them?
I could almost cry manly tears of joy right now...
I just saw on their Facebook page where they are going to start leaving their bootloader unlocked. HTC "There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened. Today, I'm confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience," Peter Chou, CEO
