General Merge with Huawei Sonic forum?

As far as I can tell, the hardware is essentially identical with only two hardware differences: The Sonic is GSM with a 3.2mpix camera, the Ascend II is CDMA and has a 5mpix camera. The only cosmetic difference is that the Sonic has a grey blackplate instead of white.

I'm wary of attempting to root my Sonic with the Huawuei U8650/Ascend II root zip because I'm afraid I might brick it. Does it touch anything to do with the mobile chipset at all?

UPDATE: It works, my phone is now rooted. Considering that they're so similar that the same zip can root both phones I think merging would be a good idea.
