Hey Joe! You forgot to take the poll and check off Panda Home as one of your favs! It deserves some lovin doncha think?
I've had skyfire since I first got my phone, but really only use it to view flash or sites in desktop mode. Overall, I think it is clunky and not that fast. Dolphin mini is faster, but I hate not having the zoom in/out button on screen. Opera mini is blazing fast, but butt ugly. Still looking for the perfect browser.
Dolphin Browser Mini is now officially the fastest Android browser. It has been tested by Phandroid.
Dunno who did that testing, but it sure didn't pan out that way on my phone. Opera Mini easily smokes it, on WiFi and on 1x.

I don't want to see the browser, I just want to see the webpage. If you mean it doesn't render properly, then that would be an issue, but otherwise, I don't have any problems with the looks, as I'm busy looking at the content displayed, not the borders of the screen.

Opera Mini is not neccesarily faster. The reason for why Opera is "faster" is because it compresses the images, so that way, pages load faster. If you do look at the images in Opera, they appear blurry or you see a loss in quality. Dolphin Browser Mini does not compress the image. You need to do an apples to apples comparison.
The Following User Says Thank You to For This Useful Post:
The images don't need to be rendered in full if you're looking at a preview or haven't zoomed in on the page yet. Why would I care if a Google image search shows compressed pictures when I'm going to click the link to see the full image anyway? It's about the page load time, not how compressed an image is. This is, after all, a phone we're browsing on. Reviewer tests mean jack to the average consumer, and as I've sold to/worked with all types of consumers, I generally know what's more important to them.

I don't know what's going on between you guys, but I do agree that opera mini is blurry/grainy looking. Even text doesn't look as sharp. That is what I meant by butt ugly.

I would like to remind everyone that this is a thread devoted to "Favorite Apps". We each have reasons for an app being one we like to use. That does not necessarily mean that our app is better or worse than someone elses favorite app.
This is not a thread called: The very BEST apps. It is all about which apps WE LIKE the most as individuals. That is why there is a poll attached.
This thread is for sharing your fav app.
We all have different likes and dislikes. That's why there are so many different ice cream flavors and why there are horse races.
What a boring world it would be if we all liked the very same thing.
Thank you to everyone for your opinions and for taking the poll. Let's all be nice and civil so we can keep this thread going and unlocked.
And please continue to share your new favorite apps with us here.
Thanks!
~ Jazz

Here's my favorite: Attack issues and not each other.
Here's my second favorite: Stay on topic.
Here's my third favorite: When there's a post you're having issues with, you hit the !Report button attached to the left of it - you do NOT reply publicly (see my second favorite rule, above).
And here's one I don't want to have to get added to written guidelines, but - consider it part of Da Rules - don't bicker publicly and then leave little notes to the mods in your posts.
Now - anyone with issues - PM me. Anyone carrying on further - we're going to pass Go, not collect $200, not get a simple infraction for disrespectful posting - we're going to go right up to the infraction for failure to heed a mod warning.
Now - I'm thinking everyone is immediately very, very cool and happy - yes?

(Above is even easier with OS X or Linux.) The idea is - your phone becomes a network drive to your PC, but it's mega-convenient.
And I don't think that your phones come with DLNA but if you happen to have a DLNA TV or such, that's no problem, you can serve your media FROM your phone with this:
If you have a lot of contacts - or - if you just want what might be THE jaw-dropping app besides Google Sky or Space Junk - then this is a must-try, it works great on ALL Android phones:
And - I'm noticing some references to task killers. In general - we find that's kinda like a drug for Android - the more you use a task killer, the more you need to use it - so I thought you all might find this thought-provoking:
EarlyMon, thanks for that huge post, I see some things I'm going to read up on.
To add to your post, specifically the mention of SwiFTP, there are 2 other apps that I have tested which can do this:
Droid PhoneControl
WiFi File Explorer
Both will setup an IP address and port number that you can access with your browser to transfer files, etc. On WiFi File Explorer, you can configure the port number as well as a password, whereas you cannot configure the port number with Droid PhoneControl. Both apps only run when you open them and specifically tell them to start, and you must turn them off when you are finished.

Hi Vent! Nice to have you here.
Tell us about ringmaker. Is it like a ringtone maker or what? Also, I haven't tried Ream launcher. I think I heard of Zeam Launcher. Is it a close cousin? LOL
So far I've only tried LPP, GO Launcher and ADW. I'm always interested in new launchers.

Thanks and glad to be here, sorry I meant to put zeam launcher my bad...lol
I needed somehow to put my tones to my email and text, but when I put them in the notification folder they wouldn't show in the ringtone notification list, only the factory still showed , so I found ringmaker on market and it would let me pick and cut down the tones or music and then it would let me put them in the notification with the factory ones
ok i am going to ask a silly question, i would like to change my sound on start up, and from what i am reading i need androotfile....and i can not seem to find it anywhere on the market ....

I Googled androotfile yesterday & d/l ,can't remember the source, though.Let us know if you find & d/l it.I do use a 'search engine' called SCROOGLE,it cuts out a lot of the ads & spam when doing a search, should be able to find it very easily that way,not too far down the results list.

I know it's to late now, but it would have been nice to break the apps into categories, texting apps all together, launcher apps all together..etc etc That way its easy for newer people to look through each category and decide of they want to try the winning app for each category. Just saying..

I tried at least four different ringtone maker apps over the weekend and NONE could see any of the MP3 files I downloaded to the phone from my PC. It didn't matter where I put them. About the only option I seem to have is using some software on my PC to edit the MP3 files to the cut that I want, and then using Rings Extended to set them. I'm very disappointed at this juncture, as it seems to me that all of these programs should be able to see your files and use them.
All 35GB of music on my PC are in MP3 format. I don't download FLAC because it eats too much space, and other formats aren't compatible with everything.
And to EarlyMon, Jazziette has it right, I meant huge as in huge contribution, not huge as in taking up too much space!

That's just very odd and must be frustrating. I've seen non-Android phones decide to not list mp3 files when they were over some certain size, but I've not heard of it with our stuff. Yet another mystery.
In other news - I use Aru Ringtones.
It accesses a very big library of mp3 files spanning many genres, and you can set contact and notification rings from within it - so no hopping between mp3 app and People/Contacts. It's just way cool and easy and is known to work on any Android 2.1 and above.

Vevo, Isn't that the one that youtube uses to play the official music videos? Does it run better on the phone than it does on a computer? Through youtube on any of my computers it lags like mad. X.x
i have alot of favorite apps but by far my fave fave has to be " TubeMate v1.3 " MUST HAVE YOUTUBE APP, it needs it to run from. pretty much tube mate lets you surf youtube as you normally would. when you click on a video you want to watch, it give you 2 options. 1.) download. 2.) watch. i have over 40 videos on a 2 gig card. had to upgrade to 8gig sd for more video storage. best of all its free. keep in mind it is pointless if you dont have your phone on a wifi connection. ( wifi. pronounced "weehfeeh" ) ( lol ) cant go wrong with free music videos. try using that with your videotonez....
P.S. when it asks you for the video resolution, please choose the 480x becuase anything smaller is pointless and also anything larger is only for tabs or laptops with high res. also if you find a must have song on tube mate, but all it has is crappy slides and no video, it has a nifty MP3 download instead of video, so you can save it as a song and set as ringtone.
P.S.S. there is also a fake you tube downloader. please make sure you DL the correct app. tube mate 1.3. this version asks you for the screen resolution when you select the option to DL and also lets you use the panoramic view when surfing. the fake version does not have panoramic viewing and does not ask you the screen resolution when downloading. the icons look the same and if you have the fake one and dont delete it before you DL the real version. when you delete the fake one it deletes both versions. i had to find out the hard way lol. happy youtube downloading =) dont tinkle yourself in excitement, wear a daiper, also had to find out the hard way

BC are you with Cricket or MetroPCS? The reason I am asking is cause some folks are having a prob just watching youtubes on their ascends. Do they load fairly fast for you? And does this app you are speaking of help in loading them too? Thanks so much for the tip!!!
The Huawei Ascend is MetroPCS and Cricket's extremely affordable Android handset, coming in at $150 off-contract. For that kind of money, don't expect much in terms of bang for buck. You'll get a 3.5 inch HVGA display, a 3.2 megapixel c... Read More
